These threads intend to initiate discussion and posting about funk, soul, disco, gogo, breakbeat and all the groovy music you don't see mentionned in other threads
young George is pleased edition
I'll post albums and 12"s/7"s, do so yourself so we can all get back home with new items on our wishlists !
optional questions :
a) what are you listening to right know ? b) what are you favorite albums/12"s/7"s released so far this year, and what releases are waiting for c) what shows did you get to recently or are planning to go ?
one of the best non Parliament/Funkadelic affiliated project, General Caine made several not to be forgotten albums before moving to Motown and renaming themseles General Kane
I don't know why but for some reason the first Gap band album and this one are pretty often ignored. maybe thats's because of their dumb idea of naming them "Gap band 1", "Gap band 2" and so on after they went on the Mercury label and successful, but whatever strong Sly and the family stone influence for this recommended 1977 output
Joshua Flores
Martin L Dumas - Attitude, belief & determination / Non-stop to the top :
straight from the genius mind of Jerry Peters, this 1977 album shines with consistency. some people will prefer the second LP, but as far as I'm concerned this one takes the cake
Hey, glad to see these threads are still going, I'm not really around enough anymore to join in sadly, not listened to all that much lately either although the new Hot 8 albums pretty sweet.
Julian Jackson
hi turny ! cool to see you again, an user told me you left for some other chan the other day yeah I try to make them on my days off, but they're still unsuccessful most of the time (although we had an interesting discussion about electric cumbia and mambo the other day). someday maybe... also since you like hornfull stuff have you lended an ear to Dogfood vol 2 by Horndogz ?
I was checking out the spinoff board Musikchan and seeing if anything happened but its got no traffic at all so just found something else to do altogether.
I have not, will try to grab that when I get 5 cheers
Ian Jones
yeah I think this board is the music board with the most traffic by far. thankfully some dedicated forums exist, and even if they're way slower the state of mind is nothing like Sup Forums
as the tree hides the forest, Fat Larry's band output has been severely burried under the successof Act like you know. why, I don't know, but it's great and shouldn't remain this way, like for this 1978 LP they just signed "FLB" for whatever reason
without a doubt on of the highlights of the Malavasi/Petrus/Romani trio, and maybe the best BB&Q album with their 1985 one. all shnining classics, with Pewwe Ford on bass and Luther Vandross on backing vocals among others
all aboard to end up with one big classic, this 1975 smashing LP by the godsons themselves, the JB's. what's there to say that hasn't already been, I don't know, but I sure do listen and enjoy this ride
