Hey friends, let's make Sup Forums worthwhile again and talk about the best style of organized sound: Noise.
Here we can talk about everything from EAI to Onkyo to HNW to microsound to Extended Just Intonation Free Jazz to anything and everything that doesn't have a free form or cohesive movement or definition.
Let's get weird.
To start things off, let's talk about and give people recs based on: >recent listens & opinions >favorite noise albums of all time
Also, let's talk equipment for those of you who compose noise--I know there are quite a few of you out there! I'm really interested in beginning to buy equipment (thinking of starting with a few vintage mixers, and some pedals: reverb, delay, fuzz, feedback, looper eventually). I want to get a semi-modular analog synth and a vintage drum machine as well for noise creation, if anyone has experience with this and could recommend brands or whatever.
>£80-£100 for a mixer >Then Effect pedals can cost £80-£300 each one >Speakers/Amp >Microphone to record too
You can make noise on a DAW (torrent, of course), but digital noise isn't as good apparently..
Caleb Gray
it's okay. i prefer swanson's earliest cassette solo stuff, and this and man with potential is that sound but more detailed and less focused on the abrasiveness and beatz
>he did LRD but kind of better. in fushitsusha maybe, but his solo stuff is a whole 'nother beast LRD is still the best
>but digital noise isn't as good apparently.. it's better when done right e.g. sheer hellish miasma
Josiah Wright
>LRD is still the best incorrect
Isaac Young
you're entitled to your opinions what's your favorite haino?
Eli Evans
You can't just call something noise and it suddenly becomes noise, this isn't noise at all
Gavin Evans
it literally is though. its just not harsh noise wall like ur used to. dont b so closed minded
Jace Wood
Either Hisou/Pathetique or Lost Aaraaff. I do love LRD, favorite album is probably Heavier Than a Death in the Family
Ian Sanchez
No, it isn't noise music >b-but it's loud and there's some scratchy sounds! No
Jason Baker
>Heavier Than a Death in the Family Literally a worse release of '77
Dylan Jackson
its literally rhythmic noise do u think that merzbuddha is not noise?
you baselessly calling people "samefag" doesn't either, faggot
Angel Thompson
>want to get into this >don't have drugs JUST
Henry Moore
what user posted and what i posted are the same thing imminent starvation is power noise/rhythmic noise imminent starvation is the artist who made that track
see?
Asher Hall
u dont "need" drugs for it they r nice to have around but not necessary! food 4 thought
Eli Ramirez
>rym
Jose Davis
i feel like it just depends on which you hear first and thus which track sequencing you're accustomed to
really if you accept heavier than a death for what it is, there shouldn't be much difference between the quality of the two for you
an aggregate of people who are invested enough in the artist and genre to create a profile and vote on genre tags for said artist vs you some fucking randy
what drugs go well with noise? i like cocaine and lsd. the combo puts me in the mood

I like to use noise as a tool. A full album of noise can be fun as well but I like to mix things up with dark ambient, rhythmic noise, power electronics, plunderphonics and field recordings. It makes for a more diverse sound environment.
Gavin Reyes
you can make noise music on any budget but physical instruments are a lot more useful in the long run. (can perform live with them, help you to better understand how sounds are created and how the instruments work so you will better be able to accomplish your vision.)
i think a combination of a DAW and physical instruments is a good way to go.
lsd or just plain old weed, benzos as well imo
i agree with you, i like noise by itself but i actually like it even more when used with other things like you mentioned, especially plunderphonics and field recordings.
James Parker
DXM
Hudson Collins
Good shit, I'm fucking into it. thanks for sharing man, I'd be curious to know what you use to make this.
Evan Peterson
Depends on the noise. Alcohol or stimulants go well with power noise, weed goes well with harsh noise, psychedelics and opiates go really well with drone noise and hnw, for power electronics I'd say dissociatives or deliriants.
Jordan Wood
this is EBM you fucking mongoloid Industrial =/= noise kys you're are self
Blake Williams
no matter how many noise tracks I make everyone else seems to do it better
Brody Thompson
whats some good onkyo ive only listened to gmgn which was nice
Ryan Ross
just listen to a sine wave with only the extreme high end on the EQ on
Asher Garcia
Lemme share this here since the Bandcamp thread is usually full with ambient and indie folk.
This is a noise album which I made in phases of heavy sleep disturbance and insomnia. I am usually awake until 6 AM and then sleep well into the afternoon. This leads to a lot of social isolation and trying to fit in for daily life things. I made the album from lots of different sources like sound files my mp3 player recorded by accident, melodies I quickly recorded years ago to turn them into songs, improvisations, movie samples etc. It's a mix of harsh noise, dark ambient, field recordings etc. I made the artwork to reflect the themes of the songs as well.
I also wrote a more in-depth text (with translation of the German track titles if you're interested) about the album: patreon.com/posts/dunkle-tage-9139793
Enjoy, /noise/. I hope you like it.
Adrian Bailey
Lol'd. Nah dude, like power noise is pretty noisey my man.
Throw down some of dat good Steve Roden nigga
be my bf please. But in all honesty can we collab pls? I feel like I'm speaking your language
Either you speak German or not. There is no feeling when speaking German. :^)
I've got two splits lined up already and my laptop is kinda broken at the moment. Show me your stuff and maybe I like it enough and we can talk about it.
Bentley Turner
Can't wait to give it a listen
Ryder Butler
>field recordings
I have a lot of fun recording birds and that and turning them into noise tracks. gives you something cool to work with at least
Xavier Foster
Yeah, I like that, too. I once made two hnw albums just from the recordings of thawing snow and from the noises of cars and machines being drowned out by distance and falling snow.
Nolan Wright
Does anyone have that turntable performance of the jap guy with all the symbols and shit on his turntable and a cart that looks like a spring?
Kevin Sanchez

Colton Williams
What brand of tapes should I get for making loops? All the ones I have are welded, what brands still use screws? My recorder also shit the bed so whats an affordable recorder I can get?
Dylan Bell
