Who amongst us remember IRC, Warez, DDoS, ISDN, ADSL, SDSL, T1, T3, OC3, and LAN parties?

If you do, you're officially old as fuck.

46 here. I do remeber all these things. How old are you?

38 here, I also remember these things. Some are still a thing.

48 here

Oh, man. Fucking Zip disk drive. That takes me back.

All good with this. oldfags unite!

me too lol

Yup. Quake LAN parties. Old as fuck.

While I'm WAY younger, I know what all of those are except with ISDN, ADSL, and SDSL. I'd personally wanna experience a LAN party for myself and see what it is. I know it won't be like it was yesteryear, but it would be a good experience (I think).

Also, holy shit I did not know that there were actual ZIP drives for comps. Always thought they were external. Huh. The more you know.

Kids now days will never be able to tell a computers age by how yellow the plastic has turned. I remember building a new computer and that bright uniform grey color might as well have been solid gold.

OP here. I'm 30, but I guess I was ahead of the curve. I remember Quake and Unreal Tournament. Zip drives. I remember when the first CD-R drives hit the market, and the CD-RAM drives. Simpler times gentlemen.

Only twenty four, still remember a lot of that

Fucking Gateway, 56k, AOL trial discs, bbs and bbl

Only 0-day Zarew for me because I am l33t as fuck.

u just made me feel old as shit

some of you guys are older than my parents

I knew a guy who had a Jazz drive. I was so jealous of that capacity.

DVD-RAM drives. I'm pretty dronk if you can't tell.

Zip drives used to be common back then. before CD burners came down in price this was the go to for moving data. 3.5 drives were laughable in capacity by that time.

Son, I was downloading cracked Infocom games from BBSes when you were using a Speak n Spell.

And IRC and DDoS are still things.

LAN parties were a lot of shit talking and Coca Cola

It was fun carrying that community into the times of Halo with the old Xbox

Gateway 2000 in this pic. Even before the cow boxes they'd ship the computers in.

33.
I remember MS-DOS, 56k modems.

also, go to vogons dot org - huge community of retrogamers out there.

i remember black & white tv

I still use IRC

...

I remember the .nfo like it was yesterday ; )

bitch, I had to dial up BBS's with my 96k modem to get onto the "internet" before the world wide web as created

I remember back when they invented the wheel.

37
Went to a LAN party every weekend at a friends house in my late teens/early twenties. Unpacking my car took me four journeys; 17inch monitor, tower, mouse keyboards etc then a return trip for the power pack i had forgotten.

yes.
i used to crack music softwarez for PC.

Was the virus called netbus? Remember going online one day with my 56k modem and my CD opened

I remember SOE Infantry.

If you played that you are old as fuck, and probably a glutton for punishment

Hey you guys wanna buy some thicknet?

nigga I'm 20 and know all that shit, you wanna tell me I'm old?

38 here

i know that feel, but there are still lan parties which now are more like social meetings

waddis?

I remember telegrams

Not old, just a punk ass bitch

I think I am too old.

Like what?

2on2 mid-high server off cuon

"AOL is the Internet."
- guy in an actual AOL commercial

Wat? I'm 27 and I remember all this shit. If you're over 50 you're old as fuck, what gives?

i used to battle this black kid in AOE wlan party back in art class in high school with our laptops

There was always one person who just HAD to format their pc and waste four hours then finally hop in with the rest of everybody else.

Man I miss Lan parties and going to to internet cafes with 14 buddies and taking over the whole place to play Quake or Diablo... Man, gaming nowadays has gotten so gay, just a bunch of internet gangsters sitting in their basements, there is no comradery amongst gamers anymore.

Netbus. So many laughs with this. Made so many kids freak out.

Before you had ethernet this old coax was the system for running networks. it was 10base5 You had a tap that would push a metal rod inside thus it was called vampire tap. also you could only do it on the black lines because the whole system was timed.

39 here and thanks for reminding me.

okkkkk sir

see above. i miss clicked.

Remember all of those, what i miss the most was the Usenet alt. groups, its basically Sup Forums but with binaries and no mods.
How i loved to troll the alt.games.dnd ... good times.
Also there was a LOT more CP there than here, even in 2007.

Knowing of something and using it in its prime are two different things.

like 'goldwave', 'personal composer' & shit.
i went by the name 'Mutha' back then.

Underage get b& faggot

who here used a screw driver to connect their nintendo?

Used to use Sierra bbs for kings quest walkthroughs

Same person always downloaded too much porn

Haha yeah I remember, dunno who planted it on me

brb, I need to look up what those are on Alta Vista

I keep this ancient thing in my living room as a tribute to computing history.

50 here, I remember 14.4k modems dialing into bulletin boards, the porn was good but fuck me it was slow

>96k modem
Luxury! My first modem was 28.8.

'Lucindo' used to make the .nfo's.
i'm 'Mutha'.

Yup. One guy that did this said he watched the girl next door at least once per day when it came out. Dude was a little weird.

>LAN parties?
huh, now that i think about it that isn't a thing anymore. just realized it

Haha, so true. I think my group of friends reformatted a computer probably once a week.

why DO you think THAT is?

We had a LAN party on CS 1.6 at college - no students older than 20

9.6k you mean.

37 here

Usenet isn't dead; it just smells funny. Credit to Frank Zappa for that one.

swapping games on cassette in school and making copies on a twin cassette deck

What i hear when people talk about autistic screeching.

Dude..., I know you!!
Are you still in touch with Aphex, Psylocke and the other guys??

nah man, that was a typo 9.6K (9600 bps)
(and we had to configure it by hand usually 1 stop bit, no parity)

Better do that in slow mode. because high speed dub messed the programs up =\

Spam killed the Usenet

I remember buying books every month to type a dos game into my Atari 800xl. hours spent writing out lines for the shittest games ever. Fun times.

Jews

>lol

wtf being able to remember LAN parties doesn't make you old
I still do them with my buds every other weekend

Samefag

remember all of it

ddos has always been a thing and will not stop to be a thing in the near future
warez is still a thing and will be a thing for hopefully many years to come
im on irc right fucking now

im not even old
also my lan is too cool to throw parties

LOL @ T1 that was huge back in the day

I remember, im 33, so I basically caught some of it, I do remember using 5.5 inch floppys, I think
they only held like 1mb each, installing a game with 5 disks.

quality post

OP here. I was playing CS during the alpha stages. Back when you had the green mystery fucking containers whatever. Someone help me out here. You didn't have an option of picking it up, if you ran over it your load out was replaced.

nah.
pretty much no.
we all got old & tired.

We still had lan parties until like 2 years ago.

lol I had that exact Gateway case. Pentium 200mmx with the zip drive. Damn thing was $3k back in '97

recording hobbyscoop radio broadcasts on cassette to get games.

Aww, yeah. Windows 3.1, bitches.

A the sounds of that modem. Everytime I hear it now Iremember my first attempts at coding. Basic bitches. That was da shit.

I remember BBS, playing doom on 10 base T network and becoming good at gaming when quakeworld was the shit.

BBSes were the shit.
>ATDT15551234
>xmodem etc

Holy shit, and I am so old I just remembered it was really 1200 baud! Fuck me. Then 2400. My first INTERNET modem was 28.8...

One of our lecturers constantly talks about old tech (we're studying electronics and I'm 75% sure he has autism)

I think I've head the stories about when the Z80 came out a million times :^)

the first programming language I learned was pascal.

Nice

Anyone remember this game? I used to think it was amazing.

27 But I remember Lanning up for some starcraft fights. Fun times, I miss them sorely.
