So I'm a 24 y/o paramedic working at a shitty private company in Chicago barely making enough to survive. I've been trying to get picked up by a department but everywhere around me is really competitive and the waiting list are taking forever. Should I enlist in the military?

...

Despite what a lot of cucks on Sup Forums might tell you, the military can be a great choice for lots of people. And with the American economy about to crash in the next 2-12 months, the military is a pretty good-looking option rn. Considering doing it myself tbqhfamalam

AirForce mechanic here.

IF you enlist, make sure you're working out plenty. I'd recommend coming in with some college, so you can get a higher rank after BMT. Further, if you have a bachelor's, or are close, finish it and you can commission as an officer, increasing your pay.

Would recommend joining the AF or Coast Guard. Always be prepp'd because it's looking more and more like we're going to war with NK soon. As someone stationed in Japan, and maintaining our fighter planes, I'm having to accept the idea that we could be bombed into shit sometime soon.

If you aren't retarded go to the navy and be a nuke.

Well i did do some college like i said I'm a licensed paramedic. Will that get me anything or is it useless in military?

Enlist in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. It's the second best uniformed service after the NOAA Commissioned Corps.

No idea what either of those are

I'm not retarded but I'm not that smart either. Any good jobs for average assholes like me

im an emt trying to get on fire or even USFS as a permanent hire. why not try to get into a hospital as a er tech for awhile that's what im gonna do after this fire season

Armyfag here.
75th RSTB currently at Camp Lemonier, DJ
We NEED medics!!!
Also..., this particular deployment is like a bad comedy film.
(Just had to throw that in.)

SSDD. Nothing is going to happen with north Korea. This is the same sabre rattling they've been doing for decades.

As for joining the military, enlisting is fine. Get a guaranteed job, and don't let a recruiter tell you it isn't available. It generally "becomes available" after you tell them you arent signing anything but what you want. Make sure you don't sign an open contact, and if it isn't written explicitly on your contact, it isn't going to happen so read that shit carefully. Even though the pricks at MEPS will try and rush you to save time.

If you do college, don't enlist. Do ROTC, get a commission. Officers are paid and treated much better than the average enlisted member.

I think it's 22 college credit hours to receive the rank of E-3 when enlisting in the AF. I had like, 132, so didn't pay much attention to the exact amount I needed.

Not a fan of the hospital setting. I love being on the ambulance

11B(infantryman) in the army here. i can say that the army isnt too bad. you get a decent ammount of time off and lots of perk. Plus you will make great friends and have some pretty good exeriances. At the same time, the work is hard and the lifestyle is tedious. expect to be called in at weird hours because someone did something dumb or they need someone to do this dumb thing. I recomend it but its not for the feint of heart

I've been thinking about it. Does army suck as much as people say?

Ex Air Force 2W2 Nuclear Weapons Specialist....I loved it...great time, benefits, veteran benefits, and I enjoyed the discipline

Just curious...do you work for Superior?

AG

weatherman basically. cake job

NOOOO No a Navy Nuke...AF Nuke....much better life I promise....I was an AF Nuke...some of the Navy Nukes were miserable

Yep. Did you ever work for them?

Fucking Airforce cucks. Don't be a pussy whatever you do. Don't pick a useless shitty branch

If you go military, go Air Force. Otherwise, get a passport, learn a language, and go to school overseas to get a Masters' degree/PhD. It's more or less free to go to college in Switzerland.

Do you ever have to kick people out of the ambulance who have no health insurance? If so do you ever find you an erection after doing so?

Stop being such a retarded pussy and go to med school. Paramedics aren't shit, doctors are where it's at.

I've nevered kicked anyone out. Thats the hospitals job but that being said I'm at a private most people are nursing homes to hospital or hospital to hospital

If you want to get picked up by a department, gain experience, and not be tied down by duty stations and overseas deployments join the National Guard. You may get activated to fight large wildfires and when a natural disaster occurs, but that's the fun part. Once you're in and attend the school for 12m classes you would be eligible to get hired on at a local fire department at a firefighter/paramedic.

They have an excellent firefighting program and you will work along side local fire departments in your area. With prior college, you will most likely be able to join in as a PFC.

>e5 25b
>4 years AGR going to do 2 ING

People may say weekend warrior and shit, but the career opportunities outside of the NG let you make more than the senior enlisted and junior officers.

yes....way back when they were almost bankrupt...fucking hate that company.

I worked Brookfield as a medic, then moved west out of Elmhurst. After my back got fuckered up from a 600 pounder, I did dispatch for Elmhurst, then Northlake, then did 911 for Markham and Harvey

In my experience the Army doesn't suck any more, or less, than any other branch.
It all depends upon what you want to do.
Now, to be honest, the Marine Corps is just for folks who want to be abused and then feel proud about the fact that they withstood it.
(Just my opinion.)
Ranger school was pretty tough but I really wanted to 'Lead the Way', as it were.
As many others have stated, being a Commissioned Officer is always better, if you can do it.
I, personally, split the difference, sort of.
I'm a CW2 (35M), currently filling in as S-2 here at Lemonier in Djibouti.

Speak with recruiters and check out Navy corpsmen, Army combat medics if you want to stay in medical. If you want to do something crazy and awesome check out the PJ program from the Air Force, or the Special Forces candidate enlistment option for the Army. Also Army Ranger would be cool. If you just want a desk job then go to the Navy, if you want a desk job and get to possibly see the world join the Air Force or the Army. Source: I'm an Army recruiter. Hate the fucking job.

Fuck man I've only been here 2 years but the way they treat us you would think they were still bankrupt. As soon as i can I'm getting the fuck out. Its why I'm looking at military

you and I will have a lot in common

I left them for the Air Force

oh no they are total shitheads. At no time did I ever think i was valued even when I was in 911

You know what I'm going to look into this

>Marine Corps
>folks who want to be abused and then feel proud about the fact that they withstood it.
lmao.
and true.

Fuck them they told us during a meeting "you guys are like a family to us" after the meeting they told me that if i didn't wash the rig before going into service one more time i would be fired

yeah....no big deal right? Wash your rig user...it doesn't matter that you are just getting it back from a call and about to go on one

oh dude...you GOTTA respond

Do they still have those hideous animal ambulances?

I used to drive the fucking zebra...nothing says "user is saving my life" like a mother fucking zebra pulling up

Oh yeah? I've been pretty split between Marine Corps infantry and Army infantry. Can you attempt an unbiased opinion? The popularity of Marines and the "respect" is attractive but I'm just not sure.

Fuck that shit, tell me what it's like being a medic OP. I make fuck all right now so the cash isn't a big deal to me.

How long did it take you and if the pay wasn't shit would you like it more?

No they got rid of those awhile ago thank god. I almost exclusively drive the mercedes. Only good thing here

So are they like an IFT company? Out here in Ca there's always IFT companies doing stupid shit and getting caught for money laundering or fraud, then nearly going bankrupt, coming back, rinse and repeat. They are a front for the Russian Mafia out here.

It's definitely worth it. You only have to do 2 weeks training in the summer, one weekend a month, get paid an extra few grand a year, get schooling paid for, depending on how many years you do, you get GI bill, and it looks great on your resume.

Becoming a firefighter is hard in this day and age, as it's usually all about who you know, not what you know. Who knows, you might meet a firefighter in your unit who could get you a recommendation at a local department.

Combine a Kelly schedule with NG schedule and you'll have a lot of days off to enjoy life. 84% guys who work with LAFD commute from outside LA, and there's one guy who flies in from hawaii once a month, completes his hours in a week, flies back for 3 weeks, and repeat. Also think about working for a large department that allows you to do that too.

See:
>Now, to be honest, the Marine Corps is just for folks who want to be abused and then feel proud about the fact that they withstood it.
>(Just my opinion.)

Not OP...but the user going back and forth with OP

Being a medic IS a good job IF you get into 911 or at least an actual good company.

Out of all my shitty time with superior, I did enjoy my life more when I was a 911 contract. However, some places you won't get paid much. If you want to make it a career, I would suggest also fire academy

yeah we have the old vans...I also drove the Northwestern box for a while if that thing is still around

Go navy corpsman (navy medic) and request to be FMF. Youll be a medic for the marines

Just wait till the liberals raise the minium wage bud.
Then you'll be making a similar amount to them but working far far harder. Not only that vut your money will become devalued as well so even though you'll make around the same amount you be able to buy far less with it.

I highly recommend you discuss with your local recuiter BUT be VERY doubtful of what they say and take their advises with a grain of salt.
They can't be fully trusted with all your heart.

That being said, I highly recommend trying out 18X and and become a medical sergeant MOS 18D as a Green Beret. Of course, if you have any doubt you're not gonna get selected or get washed out, then it's not for you. You would rather kill yourself than to become an 11B Infantryman

Or, if you just care about money and not really about patriotism by putting your life on the line, then I'd recommend AF

I love being a medic. Honestly there are only 2 big downfalls 1. We get paid shit and from what I've been told we are always going to get paid shit and 2. Working at a private is bullshit every once in awhile you get an emergency and you may get to use actual skills but for the most part its just bullshit transports. Im just hoping getting on a department will be better. emt school took about 6 months and my medic school was 11 months long. If you have nothing going on i say do it

The vans are usually for the basics and there are barely anymore boxes

Thanks, dude! I'll bet it beats the shit out of working retail or going back to college. .
