this is really nice, I like the vocals very much, plus the overall sound, maybe I'd change up few things here and there, but I dig this

Love the drums on Fire Fly and
Lookin' Inside Your House.

Really like this, I like how somber this is, a lot of it has a strange dream like quality to it that I like as well. Impressive stuff.

Transient Life I: Ineptitude is intense as fuck, I like the contrast at the end. I think I might like Transient Life II even more, I was pretty blown away by it.

Great stuff, I preferred Burning Man a little more but both tracks are really good.

I haven't been in here for a long time, nothing to rec that I recognize.

I like this a lot so far. Also JAPAN is really good, imo. But you may have messed up because the first song that plays is the 6th.

I'll probably buy it sometime.

Thats intentonal

Discover for bandcamp plays that song.

Plus the first song is too slow for trying to get my stuff out there

Oh then that makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying!

I'm about halfway through the new album now. Digging the atmosphere; the loops remind me of that one album by the Caretaker. Question: With using soundbites, as you did, is there any legal bullcrap you have to go through, or can you basically just use whatever?

columnaris.bandcamp.com/

Nothing much as of late; probably won't be much in the near future, either. But new stuff will happen.... eventually.

Thanks for listening! As to your question:
>With using soundbites, as you did, is there any legal bullcrap you have to go through, or can you basically just use whatever?
I've checked these things at times, just to be sure. All of the soundbites are coming from the features which are way past the point of anyone's ownership (so they become a public domain of sorts) or they are so bloody obscure nobody remembers them. The Caretaker actually uses the same thing - even though these old tunes have been made by somebody some time ago nobody saved any rights to them. Therefore he is free for using them in his music as a "non-attribution" public domain thingy.

Ah, I see. I'm wondering what the protocol is for using soundbites from more recent things that someone still "owns".

Like, say I wanted to use a clip from a Sherlock Holmes book-on-tape, for example.

There are some nitty gritty in this kind of thing. For one thing the time when the specific thing was created i.e. that Sherlock Holes thingy is really important because it determines the length of the ownership. Secondly - whether or not a certain thing is still available commercially matters. To that I would add the fact that sometimes these things are so freaking local/obscure/old/not worth going to court for it that 99,99% chance nobody would care about using it for the music making by some small dude who post stuff on his BC, you know? If you want to know more message me at my private FB (you know which one) sometime soon and I'll give you more info if nessecary since I was in that law thingy for a while when making the release. Mostly because its gonna be easier for me to write that stuff and secondly I'm off getting some sleep

Ah, thanks for the info, man! Have a good night!

Put out a few days ago. First complete work I've really released, whether in a solo project or in any of the bands I've been in. Next release is probably going to have vocals closer to the front of the mix and more of a DSBM influence, but we'll see.

This is pretty enjoyable. Feel like it'd benefit a lot from vocals, as is it's nice to listen to as background music but it isn't something I'd go out of my way to listen to.

Other one died right after my post, so I'll just repost. This is catchy as hell. Mathier than I expected coming in. Gotta admit though, Breakfast in Uganda's verse is so Butthole Surfers - Pepper that it's almost distracting. Feels like the exact same thing. Favorite track is probably Lone.

Production is great on all of them. Good stuff

Wouldn't have believed ocean grunge was a thing before this, but yeah. I see it.

Flash of Death was by far and away my favorite, it was like some bizarre flexed out grindcore shit. Chum's first track and Legacy were solid too.

This was good, not sure it needed 17 tracks since there was a pretty big discrepancy between the best tracks and the ones that were just kinda there. Still, some pleasant tunes. Middle drags compared to the front and back.

Ocean Grunge is, sadly, basically dead. I just wanted to make a album for it just so I can at least do something to make it live a bit more. Thanks for enjoying the album, though!

I know which buthole surfers song you're talking about.

the sad thing is that I had young fathers and Supertramp on my mind when writing Breakfast in uganda

listen to your shit today too, It's pretty fucking cool, I was about to criticize your production style, but you're intentionally going for a nosier shoegaze album, I'm not sure if that was your intention originally, but it works because the textures are there and really mesh well together.

I will say even if it is drowned out, crank those drums up and eq them, really noise it out, I think it adds more weight to your songs.

same with choi, crank up those frequiences on those noise sounds

fav is: blow or nobodys home or ZZZ.

Thanks man. I actually really wanted to go for a super noisy drum style initially, something like grave babies or certain HANL tracks, but I was having a ton of trouble finding a sound I enjoyed with that. Tbh I have a lot of trouble EQing drums so I mostly just smoothed them out. But yeah, noisy was definitely the intention. Wish I'd made the bass noisier on a few tracks too, esp Choi
