Death Grips - Bottomless Pit

ok but how about an actual answer

System of a Down: Toxicity
Mastodon: Blood Mountain
Iron Maiden: Iron Maiden

source: my 9th grade metal phase

to add to this
Avenged Sevenfold: City of Evil

then after that stuff
In Flames: Clayman and then The Jester Race to get into some "heavier" stuff but still melodic enough so it's easy to get into

The first four Black Sabbath albums.

What type of metal do you wanna get started with? Old school heavy metal? Doom? Death? Black? I got some reccs depending on what you want

dope trip, i'd go with his picks on that alone

You're right that's too advanced. Try Twisted Sister

I have an interest in Doom Metal

Start with the more accessible stuff like:
youtube.com/watch?v=oap2wmtd1ug

You should sample metal from various sub-genres because of how diverse it is and see what sticks.

For starters:

Thrash:
Slayer- Reign in Blood

Prog Metal:
Dreamtheater (idk them well enough to recommend an album)

Power Metal:
Blind Guardian (idk them well enough to recommend an album)

Melo-death:
Opeth - Blackwater Park

Traditional Metal
Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance

Slam Metal:
Pantera - Cowboys from Hell

Death Metal:
Cannibal Corpse - Tomb of the Mutilated

...

For power metal I would definitely suggest Helloween
Listen to Keeper of the Keys Part 1 and if you like it enough move onto Part 2

Technical Death Metal:
Cryptopsy - None So Vile
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked

gimme a chart like that for melodeath

Thanks for all the recs, my dudes. I'll check those albums out.

>melodeath

>Slam Metal:
>Pantera - Cowboys from Hell
uhhhhhhh

I don't have an eyeroll big enough for you

I'm not a huge metal fan but I like Veil of Maya specifically the Matriarch album (basically everything on there's awesome but Mikasa and Lucy are my favorites)

What would you call it? Seen people call it "grove" but that's a really shitty term. It's good at what it does which makes it decent for somebody who doesn't know what they like.

well slam is a type of extra brutal and harsh death metal so I wouldn't call it slam for sure

Your best bet gotta go where it all started.

Then go to accessible (90's/00's) metal that is still good
White Pony - Deftones
AENIMA - TOOL
Mesmerized/Toxicity - SOAD
Leviathan - Mastodon

Then try some melodic death metal

Heartwork - Carcass
Death - Death

That's how I would start
trying hard not to throw in personal favorite and just give you something that will be easy for you to get into.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid

Check out:
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone for noisy, raw stoner doom (One of my favorite albums)
Sleep - Dopesmoker for pure stoner doom
Candlemass - Nightfall for traditional doom/heavy metal
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality for where doom metal truly began

It's not doom metal, but Opeth - Blackwater Park has to be my favorite metal record of all time, the title track is insanely good (they're prog death metal)

Listen to VENOM and HELLHAMMER (The band, not the drummer)

I'd throw some middle-career opeth in there and sleep's holy mountain too

If you want some great Black Metal that are good starters, try:

Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane

Batushka - Litourgiya

Want some starter death metal? Highly recommend all of In Flames' early stuff (The Jester Race, Whoracle, Clayman) or anything by Amon Amarth (Jomsviking, Twilight of the Thunder God).

If you're into video games and books and shit like lord of the rings, elder scrolls etc please listen to power metal bands like Blind Guardian (Nightfall in Middle Earth, A Night at the Opera) or Tyr (The Lay of Thrym, Eric the Red). They're really easy to listen to (clean/moderately heavy vocals) and really inspiring/victorious melodies with lyrics pertaining to the stuff mentioned above.

Hope this helps!

Sunn o)))s Black One and Passage Dhivers discography are the only metal albums you need

Pls prove me wrong

Melvins album Houdini was a great introduction to metal for me. Bonus points for listening to it high- holy shit, man. That's a god-tier listening experience.

you're not wrong, but more wouldn't hurt

Night Goat's intro makes me jizz

ISHYGDDT
also Monoliths and Dimensions is better than Black One

Alice in Chains - Dirt

Pretty accessible, alternative metal

Start by listening to the almighty Neurosis

Aghartha's the only decent track off M&D

we might disagree but I fucking love this image
