Which is better?

Which is better?

Discogs

discogs

discogs

this, but unironically

i meant it unironically

I'm not one of those three but I agree anyway

I have both.
Discogs for cataloging/showing what you own.
RYM for rating.

I use Discogs for my record collection and RYM for the actual album scores.

which is best to discover new releases?

discogs

Rym

rym if you like rock music, discogs if you like electronic music

RYMis the best place to discover new music on the internet

t. bleepfags

discogs isn't really that great for finding releases that aren't on lists and aren't one of the few that always show up in the Recommendations section

do the legwork yourself instead of relying on the awful tastes of bad userbases

yes it is mate

>dude just find the music yourself
how? browse random shit and hoping to find something good?

nah
there are releases on discogs you'll never stumble upon if you dont already know the label or what to look for
whereas on rym at least there are algorithms and charts to help
basically discogs is good as a tool for looking up music you already know about, but it's not very good for browsing

Discogs will get you rare vinyl.

RYM is great for actual ratings.

Why not use both?

read interviews
go to shows
keep an eye on labels
web stalk musicians
experiment with unusual tag combination searches in streaming sites
read zine reviews and learn how to filter out the fawning shills and agenda driven fools
as a last resort, find an individual or two on these foul collection sites who don't seem completely clueless and compare notes

also, the best way of finding music on rym is looking for users with extensive knowledge and ratings for a particular area of music
while some users rate on discogs, the emphasis is more on simply cataloging collections

RYM for discovering new music and making lists and stuff, Discogs for showing off your collection and getting quality information about certain releases.
