Did he have brain problems?

lighting on that CG is pretty good

Pocahontas did it better

True. John Smith didn't join the natives and destroy Jamestown. Jamestown did it themselves by being assholes to the natives.

>being too lazy to update the year in your pasta
when did Sup Forums shitposters become so lazy?

If it's worth so much money, why does he have it just floating on his desk where anyone could steal it?

>all those back to back sequels

If they could automate logging operations why couldn't they automate wartime operations?

>Avatar came out 5 years ago
mfw 2009 was 50 years ago

I paid to see Avatar in theaters and brought my girlfriend. I remember it was snowing. I'm not even a Cameronfag I solely just wanted a visual experience, which is fine right? It looked good but goddamn was that a piece of shit otherwise

>"Transformium" was an engineering / science-fiction term long before the movie
No it wasn't.

This. Jake won the day in every possible way. Even leaving the Earth behind forever is a net gain, because as we see in the extended edition, Earth is a dirty, urbanized, mean shithole in his time, that has to exploit other planets to feed itself.

There is no black market for the stuff, dumby. There is one source and the applications are all on industrial scales.

>in 1,000 years a rock wipes out all life on Pandora
>they had no space ships to stop it
>both Na'vi and humanity go extinct
>this is what hippies want us to believe is the "happy ending"
Don't you have some GMOs to boycott or something?

the same reason we don't mine gold on Mercury, but astronauts living there would use it as building material.
Transportation costs.

>Sup Forums
>implying they could ever understand the greatest film of all time that changed cinema forever

>hometree seeds attracted to avatar bodies because of the unique EM signature of projecting a mind over long distances
>savages think it's some sort of sign

if you believe this kek

of you dont nice bait 8/10

or you know in 5 years earth sends a relativistic weapon at pandora, wipes out an entire continent worth of vegetation and starts mining again

That's a stupid waste of energy and overkill.

Just like how Star Wars Rouge One is gonna flop, right Sup Forums!?

its not a waste of energy given that any and all weapons used on the planet would actually need to be shipped there, at which point it'd be significantly more effective to strap them onto the front of the ship and let them loose right before braking than actually shipping them there and exploding them on-site.

this includes nuclear weaponry by the way, and doesn't spread radiation everywhere

abatap pls go

>can't transport a few nukes
>let's instead put 10000% more energy into a single projectile than we have every put into all interstellar transport up until that point
Stupid overkill.

Furthermore, Earth has enough unrest without committing xenocide. There are other sites to mine unobtanium.

a device weighing the same as a nuke would inflict more damage by colliding with the planet at the top speed of the space ship than the nuke would

so question: why use the nuke?

also earth is literally dying, when it comes down to it, humans are capable of a lot of horrible things to ensure their survival

>so question: why use the nuke?
Because it's stupidly expensive. It is liquifying the crust in one spot when all you want to do is burn the surface. Furthermore, you are using fusion to propell the ship that you are wasting by propelling it to such high speeds when you could be directly using the energy of fusion by simply bombing the planet with thermonuclear weapons. Furtherfurthermore, a diplomatic option is still on the table. Mine in a different spot where the cheddar isn't under a fucking sacred tree.

Stop being an edgy faggot who wants to blow up a star every time some savage chucks a spear.

hey idiot how do they get the nuke there?
by putting it on the same ship, having said ship go exactly as fast as it would normally THEN SLOWING DOWN WHICH COSTS EXACTLY AS MUCH ENERGY AS ACCELERATING

its vastly cheaper in every possible way to use a relativistic weapon than an explosive weapon of any kind

also given the kind of defenses the planet can bring using a nuke would necessitate a form of sneak attack which would cause a lot of casualties, a relativistic weapon however can be announced over a year in advance with no possibility of avoiding it allowing for large scale migrations necessary to avoid the blast

and diplomatic means were tried for decades and failed, what makes you think after the fuckup of Avatar its even possible?

>vastly cheaper in every possible way to use a relativistic weapon than an explosive weapon of any kind
Except it isn't, at all. Do you even know how shit is accelerated in Avatar? They use giant fucking lasers and sails. The ships or your supposed projectiles woudln't even get to very high relativistic speeds. They only move at, what, 20% the speed of light? The energy kinetic energy of the projectile would be inconsequential compared to the bomb itself. What you are proposing is turning fusing deuterium and lithium to power a laser to accelerate a projectile to hit a target when you can just bring the deuterium and lithium to the target and explode it. Your method is only equal to simply dropping nukes if the lasers were 100% efficient.

Diplomacy never ends. The negotiating terms simply shift.

it goes at 70% speed of light which is when kinetic energy approaches fusion weapon level
especially considering with the same energy budget you can have double the payload of kinetic weaponry compared to any other form given it does not need to be decelerated

Like I said though.

Fuel turns into electricity for laser turns into kinetic energy for projectile.

OR, simply use the fuel directly as the bomb.

The former is inefficient. Just fucking nuke it.

Plus it would be better to use those nukes with the discretion of those actually in orbit or on the surface rather than launching them years ahead of time not knowing what the situation will be in the future.

the story of avatar is complete shit and the characters are bad but otherwise the movie is pretty good honestly

arent there supposed to be sequels?

>aren't there supposed to be sequels?
Like 12 sequels.

the ship is powered by an external laser, not an onboard one
you can't save onboard fuel because the fuel is not on the ship in the first place
and remember a relativistic device has zero radioactive fallout

yeah but when will they come out

>external laser
not the guy youre replying to

where is that external laser supposed to be

>fuel isn't onboard
Moot point. A waste of energy is a waste of energy. Better to make 100 bombs rather than use the fuel for fusion to power the lasers to accelerate a single projectile to similar explosive yield as one bomb.

>no fallout
Literally the only argument that makes sense. But nuke fallout isn't even that bad.

And let's not forget out much of a mouth breather one would have to be to think global xenocide was even on the table. That's like reacting to the Boston """Massacre""" by wiping out every living thing in Europe.

Children and edgelords cannot into subtlety.

Between now and 2020. There will be a new movie every few months. This is all James Cameron's evil plot to suck every last dollar out of the world economy by forcing us to spend all our savings on his wonderful movies.

here's the thing you which you are not getting
like at all
The. Bombs. Need. To. Be. Moved. To. The. Planet.
you are guaranteed to use the energy needed to accelerate them because they need to get to alpha centauri this century

You are giving up the discretion of those on the Alpha Centauri side of things, which is a HUGE loss, just so you can get MAYBE double yeilds using a weapon that has never been tested before. The bomb would probably just break apart in the atmosphere and up up heating up the atmosphere just a little bit rather than hitting its target and detonating at the ideal altitude.

So why didn't the business dude tell Grace the bulldozers were headed towards Hometree? Or was Grace just as stupid as Sullie?
