Someone else chiming in, it was my (limited) understanding that the training and gunsight that did it. I remember reading about how the russians acquired one, transported it back home, and immediately reverse engineered it.
Also, I know this is a beautiful planes thread and many people find the F-117 to be ugly, but there is something about it that I like. To me, it almost looks like someone started building a model of a race car, then changed their mind and decided to make it a plane instead. Oh, and all they had to work with was really stiff cardboard, a ruler, and a box cutter.

No way, the 37mm had significantly more range than the early cannon and then .50's offered by the B29's turrets, it also carried a significant HE payload, coupled with the fact that the Mig-15 had a higher operational ceiling meaning they would be diving on you and shooting before you could return fire and delivering small grenades into your plane.
