To be fair violent revolutions have their downsides, as people who violently seize power are usually reluctant to give it away peacefully - bolsheviks are a good example.

The biggest problem with militarism is that a society can't sustain it for very long without constantly going to profitable wars - it's a colossal drain on the budget while mandatory conscription causes people to detest service to their country.
