Absolutely.
Not.
I didn't really like it at the time so
Whatever that entails. It didn't get worse so yeah I suppose.
I still listen to this album sometimes
"Grown Ocean" is their best song. Really evokes the sensation of recalling a dream to someone. Massive song.
it's kind of boring tbqh
I was super into their first album for a long time before Helplessness Blues came out.... wasn't disappointed at the time but for some reason I never got into it as much.
Been listening to Crack-Up which leaked already and I think it's their best work. It's less pop, but more mature and orchestral. Really next level shit
I agree, although for me Blue Ridge Mountains is a close second.
the whole mountain man singing about orchards and lutes gimmick is just too much for me to take seriously
That's my 2nd favorite as well! 3/3?
My 3rd favorite would probably be... Montezuma
it was bad then and it still is
this album did the best job at letting me know early at least. the opening lyrics on it are probably the cringiest i've ever heard.
It is fantastic and Crack-Up will never compete unfortunately.
definitely. some stellar tracks on this one
what do you find cringey if I may ask?
On Montezuma he's comparing his life to that of his parents, a pretty normal and almost universal thing to do
crack-up is a better record
>it's more experimental so it's better
It really isn't. HB has no low points and Crack-Up has too many to count.
i havent listened to it yet, got any links?
Its one of the blandest albums from the year. Yes it's pleasent but so is their infinitly better debut. It's literally the musical equivalent of drinking sugarless plain almond milk. Inoffensively dull muzak.
i dont agree, i find helplessness blues has more low points especially lyrically. crack-up feels much more inspired.
if a better album means there are more choruses your mom can sing along to, then maybe you're right
Could never get info Freet Foxes. Dont know exactly why.
>if a better album means there are more choruses your mom can sing along to, then maybe you're right
It doesn't, user. A better album means a better album. An album can be experimental and be better than the artist's/band's previous conventional albums but Crack-Up really isn't imo. What are the low points in HB in your opinion? The only somewhat "low" point I find in HB is The Cascades but that is just an interlude and not even a song. Disregarding that, my least favorite song on HB would probably be Battery Kinzie. That being said, I still really like it as it's a short, simple, pleasant song without any flaws really.
battery kinzie
the plains / bitter dancer
the cascades
someone you'd admire
i don't like any of these songs as much as any of the songs on crack-up. it is a more cohesive record and honestly not that "experimental", just more subtle and crafted.
The Shrine/An Argument is the best song in their discography. Honestly though I feel like it is a 9.8/10 album with almost no imperfections.
