Personally I just put my belt on loose, so I can easily use it to defend myself with it's heavy steel clasp.

But as I said, those will probably be ruled as weapons when it comes down to it, so your primairy concern will be that you can carry it around without the case being made that you're carrying to with the intend to use it as a weapon in self defence.

Carrying something you then use as a weapon in defence is not illegal. Carrying a weapon for defence is illegal.

If you can justify what you had/have on you, as not purposely for self defence, you're in the clear, legally (or more aptly: usually).

So, if you get robbed, and you're a chef going to work, and you've got a big fuck-off knife on you, and the robbery escalates, and you kill the guy, using your chef knife, it'd be classed as a weapon, but one you were legally carrying.

If you were a guy carrying a chef knife in the same situation, its a bladed (article) weapon, which is prohibited.
