I really like Joy Division, but it's a shame they only have two albums. Are there any bands similar to them?

Kraftwerk

joy division's non album stuff if you havent already
early new order
the cure up until 1982

Try Echo & the Bunnymen. Ocean Rain is really good and the debut is also a great place to start.

Obvious: New Order
Bonus: The Feelies

The Sound

nice fake Unknown Pleasures cover

you should listen to Swans if you haven't

Children of God is a good start

Iceage - Plowing Into The Field Of Love

Very recommended, both singers ended up in a ditch too soon

Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always
The Cure - Pornography
People say Interpol sounds like Joy Division. Personally, I don't get that.
Killing Joke - 1980 s/t
The Fall - Bend Sinister
Christian Death for full blown Goth

None of these sound at all like joy division. What you want is a certain ratio

OP ignore everyone else who has posted. listen to interpol's turn on the bright lights and ceremony's the l shaped man

Kys

he's right TOTBL is the only 21st century answer to Joy Division

I'd rather live a long live, contribute to society and the world in general while expanding my consciousness through experiences and new ways to feel love. If you feel that way please speak to a professional

I feel like I missed the boat on Interpol because when they came out it was around the same time as a bunch of music that I hated like Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes, shit I am sonically allergic to, and I lumped Interpol in with them. Now when I go back and listen to TOTBL it seems so basic and lacking in atmosphere but I think it would have suited my less refined taste back in the day. Such is life.

They absolutely took cues from Joy Division but are disappointing in every aspect, in comparison.

Hes is asking for similar bands. Just because it doesn't sound exactly the same doesnt mean he can't enjoy it.

The Cultural Decay
Isolation ward
Grahzdanskaya Oborona
Der Golem
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Durnoe Vilyanie
Defear

literally a poor man's Joy Division

Hapiness platoon.

This is the closest there is. Very similar styles.

>I'd rather live a long live, contribute to society and the world in general while expanding my consciousness through experiences and new ways to feel love
I haven't cringed this hard in a while.

...

Happy 37th anniversary of Ian's suicide

*blocks ur path*

>the noses

A place to bury strangers (the album which starts with it is nothing can't remember the name) fucking good stuff

Warsaw

Fuck! I really wanted this to be real.

Sisters of Mercy

The National
Editors

On this release Swans go full, 100%, "tracks from this album were recommended as background music in a Vampire: the Masquerade book" goth, to the point where Michael Gira's vocal delivery adopts that particular stentorian tone reminiscent of goth vocalists trying really hard to imitate Andrew Eldritch.

This would be seen as a risible and mercifully brief phase in their existence between their shockingly raw early post-punk material that preceded this and their exceptional post-rock material that came after, were it not for one thing: they're amazingly good at this stuff. Perhaps Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds could have stood toe to toe with Swans in the post-punk/goth stakes at this point in time, but precious few others could.

(sounds like Cave being backed by proto-Godspeed-esque arrangements doused in an 80s aesthetic.)

But you're not suggesting similar bands. You're just suggesting entry level post punk bands

>better instrumentation
>doesn't sound exactly the same (completely different atmosphere)
The idea that there can only be one band with a somewhat similar sound is fucking cancerous and shows that your music taste is fickle and entirely superficial

editors are much more like The Chameleons
Interpol is more joy division, and boxer by the national is but alligator isn't
