Some Visigoth with a Latin name beat back Muslims and so it was the only part of Spain to never be conquered. I think they also have funny accents maybe?

...

more or less it was the birth of our kingdom, yes

Nice flag

ty madrid. Are you related with asturias in any way?

Thinking of hiking that pilgrimage trail in Northern Spain, anyone done it before

No. But yes with Cantabria.

>casonas asturianas

That's Santa María del Naranco lol

hell yeah. Primitive one ("el camino primitivo"), great great great hiking route.

(website in english)

blame google for that, I know.
I like cantabria, you're bros. Not the same with galicia and his annexionist intentions with our west border.

Btw, we will add more concejos soon to the extension, I hope soon

I've been there, lovely place. Would like to go back someday soon.

Right on. I've only ever been to Catalonia myself. Isn't Asturian fairly different from standard Castilian?

good goy

where had you been? did u manage to go somwhere pretty for yourself, or you investigated/had a guide?

reducing different cultures to the language is like not telling appart canada, usa, brits and australians because english
We have our language, but we don't bitch about it like catalonians and we ain't greedy secessionist andalusians on disguise. We mainly speak standard spanish with some personal touch.

I stayed in Oviedo but was able to go to Gijón, Avilés, Covadonga, Cangas d'Onis, and Llanes. I got around by myself using Alsa and Blablacar. I went to Asturias because of >MUH HERITAGE

Honestly one of the most beautiful and green places I have very seen, it's a dream of mine to live there someday.

Interesting. What happened in Asturias during the Civil War? What is the most interesting or unique thing about Asturias compared to the rest of Spain?

While some part of these cities are pretty, you have to go off road to see the true heart of Asturias.
And it's on the nature of our culture to be open to any visitors and dspersed sons (you MUST, hear to me, MUST visit the Archivo de Indianos in Colombres and flip your shit about what emigrant Asturians did). So come back whenever you want.
>protip: as THE anticuck, we love to see a foreigner talking something in asturian, or behaving a bit like us.
>I loved the first time one of our south saharian emigrants did this in front of me. Even our black emigrants are educated and embrace our culture instead of trying to impose their inferior ways.

There was an anarchist revolution in asturias 3 years before the civil war.
The eternal gallego came with his soldiers, spanish and moroccan moors, to give shame to our never conquered by moors land, and ended it.
Then, on the civil war, the repression that followed the revolution made them easier that it would be normally to invade again.
Also the nazis (franco's allies deployed on the war) bombed the shit outta key points and cities because why not.

What are politics like in Asturias today? How does Asturias relate to the rest of Spain? What are regional dishes like?

Yeah I really wanted to go to Colombres but I didn't have enough time during my trip. I did visit my grandfather's village though and got to see the house where he grew up and stuff. The people were really friendly and it amazed me that they still had some memory of him. Ended up walking from the village all the way to Llanes (about 12 km) along a portion of El Camino de Santiago. I also saw some ancient Celtic idol at a place called Peña Tú, that was probably the highlight of my trip. Here's a crappy pic I took of it.

Interesting and unique.... We have a low percentage of idiotic morons, people more or less educated on the sciences and letters, almost everybody is patient and welcoming, but have a party heart.
We LOVE food but we don't behave as swines eating, just we have great recipes and inmense variety of fresh quality food (most of it biologic and very affordable). We also have one of the most (recognized as it) clean city of europe, our capital oviedo. We have green everything. amazing mountains. Crap. I love my country, Come here, give tourist monies and we will invite you to something to drink because why not.
Our president is the head of the headless spanish socialist party atm, in process of not becoming stale af.
In Asturias we have a pretty tight 4 party system which makes more or less contained the asturian socialist federation, which has been in power almost always.
Dishes, you google it and i'll tell you bout it.
I'm glad you like it. We are like grandmas that see people love their dishes; we never get tired of seeing people enjoy.

1. Google "casona de indianos"
2. Go to images
3. ????
4. Profit!
