The Han simplification of characters the mainland Chinese government did obscured the phonetic components of many characters. This is one of the common criticisms towards simplified Chinese characters. If anything, Taiwan and Japan has preserved more phonetic value in their characters than China. Your comment is ironic.

Koreans barely use Chinese characters except when we have to clarify meaning of word.
