Their first 2 albums feature a shit load of effects and a dreamy atmosphere, sometihng grunge doesn't aim for. The production in Siamese Dream was Corgan trying to channel Loveless's production.
The only thing "grunge" about SP are Corgan's lyrics, only because of the angst.

What you said. Core was decent enough. Purple was unfairly shat on, it's a great album with some fantastic tracks. Tiny Music was also shat on unfairly, it showcases more ambition than most grunge bands ever had. Also, their guitar work is really fucking solid, mostly due to the jazz formation of their guitarist.
