Sup Forums I want to broaden my music horizons, so hit this thread up with some artists that you really like that you think are underrated, hit a link up with a sick performance or song and I'll give it a listen. Try to make these artist current. I have nothing against older music, but I'm interested in artists that I can watch evolve as musicians and potentially see in show.
Hello Skinny/Constantinople by Primus. Been around forever, probably more popular than I think. Those two songs are covers of 70s songs by The Residents.
Charles Bailey
disturbed sucked in the 90s and they suck now
Blake Rivera
hell yeah brother, primus is sick. They're pretty big where I live, a lotta moms seem to like them
The music is cool, the singer sounds like a dying cat though
John Lee
65DaysofStatic, and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Death Grips if you feel really experimental.
Grayson Cooper
Personal fav, definitely need to be eased into this type of music if you're not used to it though. I remember I used to hate the vocalists voice, but it's definitely my favourite band atm.
One of the best written songs I've ever. True musicianship from these guys.
Jeremiah Ortiz
I've ever heard+
Christopher Young
neato, saved
Samuel Rivera
very tight
Logan Barnes
>underrated >chance
I like chance but c'mon
Brody Cooper
hella gay
Elijah Young
his last two albums are very raw. they're basically the same. Ruminations is an album with just guitar, piano and harmonica he recorded as a demo for Nonesuch records and they said it was perfect to release that way. A few months after, he recorded Salutations, which is the same album (plus 7 other songs) recorded with The Felice Brothers as his backing band and legendary drummer Jim Keltner (Dylan, Presley, Harrison, Lennon, Bowie among many others) on the drums
Isaac Russell
oh shit dat boi fucking goes in
Ryder Moore
I just assumed like a lot of Sup Forums OP avoided rap
Owen Harris
this is high key the worst thing i've ever heard but other than that it's alright
Ethan Gonzalez
well i'm glad you posted it, I'm going to be listening to him from now on
nah dogg, OP is about his hip hop, be FW that new badass, kendrick and murs especially
Isaac Brown
Falconer is power/folk metal band formed in 1999. their last album was in 2014, so still pretty new. Although, they won't be doing live shows anymore, just sticking to studio. Here's one of my favorites from the self named album "falconer." Hope someone enjoys it.
not bad, only marginally into metal myself, mostly just stoner, pyschedelic and garage metal, what would you even call this genre, prog?
Jaxson Baker
I was going to judge this as garbage, but it wasn't bad. Too bad a lot of these aging guys aren't playing shows anymore
Parker Thomas
Jellyfish is extremely underrated, an eccentric power pop/rock band in the early 90s. Very dramatic and inspired by Queen and The Beatles. youtube.com/watch?v=GK676Sj9sgc
Pixies aren't necessarily 'underrated' but compared to the bands they inspired (Nirvana being one of them) they deserve more love youtube.com/watch?v=GZRpANN4NF8
Dylan Ross
I will say that the beginning part of the song is pretty weak. If you want a more consistent song, maybe try "Clarion Call." yeah, it's a shame they won't be preforming anymore.
There are a few artists you can say sound like Lorn (Dolor is really the only one I have heard having a similar approach and sound), but you can't say Lorn sounds like another artist.
Opeth. Faith in Others, Burden, Harlequin Forest (they were more metal back then) if you do like metal as well, I'd recommend the entire album Ghost Reveries. By Opeth.
Cameron Gray
I love the band, and I'm glad this got them some exposure. I'll always prefer their real rocking stuff though. They released their first album in 2000. They helped kick off nu metal as a genre.
Aaron Murphy
>Opeth >underrated
Tyler Martin
pridjevi dead meadow moon duo
i love ty as well
Aaron Carter
Have met exactly one person in real life who listens to metal and has heard about and actually listened to Opeth.
Colton Carter
Disturbed was second wave, Korn, Deftones, Slipknot and Limp Bizkit hit the mainstream in the late 90's.
Jace Murphy
I know that's what Wikipedia says, but I never think of Deftones or Slipknot as "nu metal." Korn and Limp Bizkit for sure though.
Levi Butler
OP here, not gonna claim that i'llmake it through this, but thanks, there are some solid suggestions on here
Evan Wright
they started playing in the 90s tho. they sucked before they released any albums, they sucked after they released their first album and they suck now. nu metal is a fucking pox on an otherwise prolific genre
Liam Gray
Point still stands though, Disturbed in no way helped kick off anything. Oh and if Disturbed is nu metal, then Slipknot and Deftones are as well, nu metal is a really vague term which basically means "pop metal from the late 90's and early 2000's".
Jacob Barnes
Get out of here with your pointless holier than thou nonsense about metal sub genres. Nu metal doesn't take anything away from bands like Sabbath or Maiden.
Isaac Evans
If you ain't listening to this, you ain't listening to shit.
What's your definition of "mainstream"? Radio play? Over a million views on Youtube? Available on Pandora or Spotify? Every one of those bands I've posted, metal and otherwise, have gained a bunch of traction this past year. It's because their being shared and discussed by people who are enthusiastic about the present, and future, state of music. That's what dictates what's mainstream and what's not, despite how good it feels to see these things through a more cynical, conspiratorial scope.
Jacob Perez
I tend to like a lot of underground acts, and don't really listen to much hyped up shit other than mac demarco, and a few semi decent rappers like kendrick and chance, but there is an appeal to having your music be mainstream. Point in case, when the chili peppers went all wierd goth metally for one hot minute. That shit was tite
Hudson Phillips
Oh hell yeah, these guys too.
Ryan Ross
having a small legion of internet followers does not indicate mainstream success. Its being part of and cultivating a music scene that influences lots of artists and is part of a bigger picture.
Dylan Thomas
That's what all of those artists I posted are doing.
It always starts with a small legion of followers.
William Jenkins
How about radio play on a station that isn't exclusively metal/hard rock? Getting on Pandora or Spotify isn't challenging at all. My friend from high school is on both of those, and his music blows. And there are probably a billion YT videos with a million views. It's gotta be at least 10 million to be mainstream. Probably more.
Hudson Wright
look, I'm not hating on those artists, I think that they're very decent, but I wouldn't consider any of them to be mainstream at all. That's not a bad thing though, the underground is where true talent usually dwells
Ian Murphy
You're joking, right? I've heard of exactly one of those bands (Xanthochroid), and only because one of my best friends is into really obscure metal.
Comments/following is cancerous but I have shown this to several friends who are by no means electronic music listeners and they have all approved.
Logan Thomas
Alright, I concede. They're not mainstream, I've just seen many of these bands explode in popularity through streaming services over the past year and that makes me very happy. I'm optimistic about where these guys will go and how they'll shape the medium, even if they do go down the route of countless other bands and eventually lose their capacity for song writing/playing. Their discography will still be out there, and young musicians will still take note.
Blake Robinson
youtube.com/watch?v=-psBFcQ8t-k one of my favorite bands they´re from gemany and not very old;) I think that they are very underrated so please check them out:)
Joseph Stewart

Keaton Henson is one of my favorite musicians of all time. Last year I found him on one of these threads, thought it'd only be fair to share him with the rest of you. He's helped me through a lot, hope it helps you as well.
