I started playing gw in the alpha, when gw2 was announced the community died fast.
Guild wars 2 is a great game aswell, though there is just something about gw1 that I love.
It was the first mmo i played so might have an influence.

I fucking love GW2. Not playing it right now, but it was such a good MMO to play on release and after the expansion. Beautiful areas. Perfectly designed events that make you naturally cooperate with nearby players.
It's not dead as fuck, there's a good amount of players, but I still would not recommend getting into it right now due to lower population. Like, it's not dead but not enough for my taste. I would say play it only if you have infinite time and literally nothing better to do.
