thoughts on this guy

Best american director after Kubrick.
Way past his prime, though.

His New Hollywood stuff (Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull etc) is great.

Casino is pretty good.

Goodfellas is mediocre and overrated as fuck

The Departed is fucking awful

goodfellas > casino
and Mean Streets is overrated

the rest I agree on

Used to be a cool fresh voice with Mean Streets and Taxi Driver and stuff, but most things after that is like a horrible self-parody.

>Tfw you get to see what a 44 Magnum will do to a woman's pussy. Now that you should see!

>Mean Streets is overrated

It's better than Taxi Driver and unironically my favourite Marty flick tbqh.

One of the greatest film makers of all time, across numerous genres and still making great films. Looking forward to Silence.

>Kubrick
>American

He directed After Hours after making several masterpieces. For that alone i love the guy

>Ayy, wassa matta wichu??
>Ayy, give'im his money
>Ayy, I don't 'ave tha money
>Ayy, waddabout tha money I lend you?
>Ayy, I spent that
>Ayy, wassa madda wichu??

For 2 hours with non stop music in the background

One of the greatest filmmakers of all-time.

>Goodfellas is mediocre and overrated as fuck
Fuck off, it's borderline perfect

he made a couple great, DEFINING, American gangster films and a badass documentary about The Band.
it her than that he's a bit overrated.

Ray Liotta is a fucking terrible actor, even if the rest of the film was brilliant that would remain true.

You can do that to any film and make it sound shit

>The Last Waltz
My negro. The anniversary performance last weekend was underwhelming as fuck.

Hi Mike!

But the film is literally just that. Harvey Keitel is awful in it, the direction is just not good, the story goes nowhere, and most of the movie is just Keitel asking DeNiro to pay the money he owes to that lame guy.

I heard that he's banged a ton of women in his life. You might say that he scores easy

Genuinely kek'd, although I enjoyed Mean Streets quite a lot, laughed a couple of times - the only problem I had with it is that it was out of focus all the time and for someone like me with OCD is VERY annoying.

Oh, and I can't believe no one's mentioned 'The King of Comedy' yet... better than Taxi Driver and his most underrated film in my opinion, great character study.

my negroid brethren.

was this like... a live performance? I thought they all ded.

>Plotfag

Opinion discarded.

This, King Of Comedy is patrician as fuck, and my favourite black comedy, even more so than Dr. Strangelove. Nice dubs, too. Check mine.

Well, Taxi Driver is probably my favorite film ever made, right next to Drive.

Casino, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Mean Streets, and The Wolf of Wall Street are all solid films too. Still need to see some of his other work.

ok, tell me why the movie is good, then, please

>Ray Liotta is a fucking terrible actor, even if the rest of the film was brilliant that would remain true.
Ray Liotta is a solid character actor who gave a fucking excellent performance as Henry Hill.

The rest of the film is brilliant and Ray Liotta is not a "terrible" actor, so your point is moot

Oh shit, didn't even realise, yeah those trips followed by dubs are pretty satisfying... but yeah, 'The King of Comedy' is fucking great. I was slightly disappointed by 'Dr Strangelove' though, none of the jokes worked for me, might need to re-watch it.

The only correct opinion in this thread is this:

Raging Bull is the greatest American film of all time.

>it was out of focus all the time and for someone
it was?

I thought it was, a lot of the shots were out of focus, maybe they weren't but that's how I remember it...

I would assume he was using a cheap camera, but I can't remember how it looked

He is great, one of my favorite directors.

It's a little bit more than that...like Keitel's character clearly wants to escape his life and situation even though, at a certain level, he revels in being a thug. But he's a slave to his insecurities and the environment around him. Remember the ending where he's trying to drive out of the city. Do I need to tell you that's symbolic?

I like that scene in Mean Streets where Robert De Niro goes "ayy a mamma mia it'sa spaghetti meat-a-balls ay? you MOOKS"

Looked cheap, really. Like a B-movie from the 70s.
Production in this movie was really cheap. If you watch it and then Raging Bull, you can't believe they're both from the same person.

That makes sense, but his acting was dreadful. I honestly couldn't tell what was the deal with his character most of the time.

Makes very enjoyable movies. King of Comedy is highly underrated.

>Goodfellas is mediocre
Go get your fucking shinebox

My favorite director

He makes such good films about bad people that a lot of the audience begin to like the characters.

>I honestly couldn't tell what was the deal with his character most of the time.
Have you considered that maybe you're just stupid?

Think about it

...

>Marty
>Good

women he's been married to

Why are you offended that I think his acting is shit?
Geez, what an autist...

Taxi Driver is easily one of the best films I've ever seen
