>The World's End

Coherence is great, I'm glad it made the list. It's the movie Primer should have been.

I mean we all know that Avatar isn't without its flaws but the sci-fi in it is great and some movies on this list are just terrible.

Another case of haters hating.

>her
>melancholia
>coherence

avatar's not great but it's less painful than those pieces of shit

Movies that should not have made the cut by virtue of being trash-garbage

>Advantageous
>The Martian
>Never Let Me Go
>JJ Trek
>TFA
>Attack the Block
>Primer
>Fury Road

>star wars isnt number one

intro the trash it goes

I don't think there are enough decent Scifi to make a top ten.
The genre has suffered in the latest years.

>new Star Trek listed

>Vanilla Sky, War of the Worlds & Cargo only get an "honourable mention"

fuck this list fucking list what the fuck

problem with top 50 lists is that 80% of them are arbitrary filler

>Are these lists compiled by monkeys with Netflix accounts? "Star Wars" was ranked 27, but "Moon"—one of the most mind-numbingly boring movies I've ever seen—is in the top 10 (???). And it feels like a good third aren't even Sci-Fi; I mean, "The Mist" was just a B horror flick—fun, but hardly in the same league as "The Martian." "Avatar," "Hunger Games," and "Divergent" were every bit as relevant as "Edge of Tomorrow," yet they're completely ignored. Instead, the list includes the God-awful "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." #headdesk

>this whole comment

>no Matrix
>no Pitch Black

I mean alright whatever I guess

>Wall.E
>Inception

These should be higher on the list. Children of Men as the top selection is just random

Into the trash

Children of men is just a terrible movie. Why does everyone like this so much?

Children of Men is an amazing movie. Why does everyone hate it so much?

Be honest everyone: science fiction movies aren't really that great, are they? We get big budget adaptations of ridiculous small time comic book characters but where's my Ringworld, Cities in Flight, Book of the New Sun?

I hope Avatar 2 is 3 hours of watching the Earth fleet glass the entire planet

garbage

sci-fi is a far too loosely used, especially on that garbage list

this lmao

This

Gravity was a steaming pile of dog shit, cant believe i fucking wasted my time watching it.

>Cities in Flight

noice

am I the only one who thinks Sci-Fi is kind of derogatory? to me, what they're referring to is Science Fiction. Sci-Fi has a potentially negative connotation garnered from its association the the channel, and the crap they have shown for years. actually intelligent, quality films like these deserve a better designation. I've felt this way for YEARS. anyone else?

inb4 cuck, fag, dumbass, shill, or anything else meme or negative. just wanna know if I'm alone in this.

>movie with the most realistic fictional spaceship ever put on film isn't on the list

It's just so easy to hate on Avatar

Read this to find out how fucking awesome and realistic this spaceship is:

projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/slowerlight.php#id--Go_Fast--Starships--Avatar_ISV_Venture_Star

No, nobody feels that way, you should stop feeling that way because it's stupid

>Not appreciating the astounding sound design

Fucking just fucking fucking fucking STOP JUST STOP FUCK

lolalright

Nobody fucking cares how realistic the spaceship is, you autist. A realistic spaceship isn't automatically a good design, nor does one good design make a mediocre good.

2061: Odyssey 3 when?

>Avatar not on the list
Appropriate considering it's awful.

>no gattaca

Avatar deserves more to be on such a list than half the movies on there. Go gnaw on your toenails you mongoloid result of inbreeding.

>Wall E
>not top 5
trash

21st century retard

>21st century confirmed as shit

letrashman.jpg

>Serenity

U fucking wot. It was a lacklustre rushed cap-off for the show. Taken on its own it's nowhere near being on the same list as Children of Men.

Still better than children of men

>46. “Midnight Special” (2016)

if this one made the list, we're off to a bad start

what a fucking awful movie

>interstellar not in top 10

Lol'd

Not enough explosions brah?

they're like polar opposites
gattaca most comfy, children of men most intense

it isn't better though faggot

Avatar is lame as fuck in the sci fi deparment, what? you think it's good because they called "experts" to design fucking pterodactyls or six legged horses?

0/10 You're just butthurt.

kill yourself lmao

Haven't seen:
Holy Motors
The Clone Returns Home
Hard to be a God
Another Earth
Midnight Special
Advantageous
2046
Remainder

Any of them worth watching?

>gattaca
>comfy

I don't believe my eyes

yes

>"Moon"—one of the most mind-numbingly boring movies I've ever seen—is in the top 10 (???)

Rude.

Holy Motors but it isn't sci-fi at all

Infants with too much time in their hands confirmed

>Battle Royale
>Science Fiction

I suppose Hunger Games is Sci-Fi as well.

>Forrest J Ackerman is credited with first using the term sci-fi (analogous to the then-trendy "hi-fi") in 1954.[38] As science fiction entered popular culture, writers and fans active in the field came to associate the term with low-budget, low-tech "B-movies" and with low-quality pulp science fiction.[39] By the 1970s, critics within the field such as Terry Carr and Damon Knight were using sci-fi to distinguish hack-work from serious science fiction.[40]

You're certainly not alone, but it's been around since before the channel was a even a thing.

except hunger games is sci-fi, didn't you see all the fictional science shit in it?

>Star Wars
>Sci fi

>I suppose Hunger Games is Sci-Fi as well.
w-well it is set in a dystopian future full of crazy sci-fi planes and spaceship looking things. Also floating trains.

>The World's End that low
>The Prestige that low
>The Martian that high
Well, this list is flawed but it's not terrible. I have to give them a ton of credit for not including Avatar.

and genetically altered beasts
and bullshit traps that are somehow set up in less than a day (tar trap, machine gun turret fake walls etc.)

Not putting Avatar in the list is their way to make some clickbait.

There aren't even 10 good sci-fi movies in total.

>suppose
>the story where they've got magic salve you put on wounds that heals them, genetically engineered monsters of every kind, even down to hounds looking like specific humans and all kinds of shit like that
>not sci-fi

There's an argument over where Hunger Games would place in a list, but it's definitely sci-fi.

iirc the traps were just kinda there in preparation, but weren't 'turned on'

This. Half of these are dumb hollywood shit that barely qualify as science fiction.

>Mad Max: Fury Road

Is this meme really still going? This movie was complete dogshit. Did I watch a different version?

but there were new ones everyday, and they even started making traps that couldn't be detected with the magical hand held trap detector

>defending Wright and Nolan garbage
>hating Cameron

Wrong forum sir

they're all garbage

back to Sup Forumseddit

Sauce? Is it a comment below the article? Screenshot pls?

>implying Wright isn't one of the best comedy directors of the 21st century
You're the one on the wrong forum.

Avatar sucks, but this is correct. Avatar was definitely more "science fiction" than half the shit on there, science being an integral part of its setting and storyline.

I've only seen Another Earth & Midnight Special. Both definitely worth it.

>liking cameron
he hasn't made a decent movie in 10 years

>no Oblivion

What a shit list

>reading a book written by a woman
>calling books written by women books

>books
>read
do you not know what board you are on?

Come on, this bait is weak even for Sup Forums standards.

The new indepenance day was pretty good.

>implying the World's End isn't the weakest of his movies

Who the fuck is talking about reading? We're on Sup Forums, faggot.

Nice memes. Wright is a great director/writer, The Prestige is a great film and Cameron hasn't made a good film in over twenty years.

>The World's End
wew lad, what utter shit
>No Avatar
AVATOLD!

lots of these arent even sci fi

It's better than Scott Pilgrim, senpai.

World's End was still trash

>Children of Men
>Under the Skin
>Upstream Color
>Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind
>Her
>Moon
>Primer
>District 9
Not bad not bad

What is Carruth up to lately?

I don't get it either if that makes you feel better.
I saw the movie almost ten years ago and I have only a vague memory of it so I can't give an autistically detailed negative review.

He's filming his new film The Modern Ocean

If you consider that avatar is basically forgotten by most people who watched it, but movies like Gravity (objectively stupid sci-fi try-hards) are fresh on peoples minds, this list makes sense. Maybe by "best" they meant memorable. Perhaps they want out and polled people on their favorite sci-fi since 2000 and then made an aggregate. I could see Avatar not making the list easily.

how the fuck is Fury Road science fiction?

and don't tell me that post-apocaliptic is a subgenre of sci fi or i will fucking rape your dog

>no Source Code
>no Dredd
>no Animatrix
>no Guardians of Galaxy

but seriously, Source Code is great and underrated

>they didn't even considered The Skin I Live In
sigh

post-apocalyptic is a subgenre of sci-fi desu sempai
And I don't have a dog

Considering the cars used I'd think it takes place in a past post-apocalypse, if anything. So not even that works. Was the first movie even supposed to take place in the (relative) future?
