Because idiots would pay that much money for it.

Because it's an instrument and not a toy.

looks like same functionality as a $50 akai lmao. Wtf are those keys though how are you supposed to play that

Personally, I'd spend that on modular, but this is a nice piece of kit

What is it do?

autist piano

it's for people who want to think of themselves as music makers, not for people who actually make music

everyone just uses plugins on a computer now. you can literally do anything you can possibly imagine with a couple of good plugin synths, and a few good kontakt libraries.

this "hardware" meme is a sales tactic for hipsters

You can't beat eurorack. Hardware has its place

This doesn't look like it does anything my old ass MC-307 can't do. And the MC-307 was like $400 17 years ago... It was a mediocre piece of entry level gear 17 years ago.

Teenage Engineering OP-1. YouTube it.

>not having a modular synth

why are you still living?

Get a 60 dollar condenser learn to play real instrument and record better quality music than professional studios in the 40s it's not that hard

Before any of you autists spend money on this crap, pirate some PC based synthesizer software and see if you enjoy it.

I tried getting into electronic music production years ago. Blew hundreds of dollars on gear, and found out i wasn't really good at it nor did I enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

Buying one of these isn't a very good idea.
Apparently these things multiply.

I agree that you can't do exactly-the-same-as-modular with plugins at the moment (but it is getting close with the softube and reaktor stuff)

The point is more that, if you know the in-the-box tricks to make your digital music sound "organic" and "analogue", all the marketing suggesting that you NEED all this analogue gear starts to become quite funny

Because you can make bangers on it and get famous:
youtube.com/watch?v=PkQ5rEJaTmk

>sequencer
>sampler
>on board effects
>color screen
>on board speaker
It a high end hardware sampler. It for the kind of person who doesn't mind spending extra on some flashy hardware. You could find most of the feature on a multitude of different pieces of equipment.
pic related my setup about a month ago. I've since added a MPC 2000xl.

Where can I download a free version of reason 5?

...

'instrument'

>reason 5
>reason 9.5 with VST support just announced
>no, I want version 5

>retards emulating sound from shit samplers in a DAW so they can make it sound more "authentic"
>trash hardware as being useless
>spending all your time trying to emulate that useless gear
You're honestly the worst type of person in music production. Back to FL with you.

Small company, large overhead, specialized design, limited run.

>what is economics?

it's not a piece of shit. It's a cool thing.

>Thinking FL is bad.

If you know what you're doing, you're good to go.

Prove me wrong.
>you can't

reason 4 was the last version anyone ever bought. no one even bothers to pirate the newer versions.

I can do anything with a maelstrom, subtractor, and thor that any plugin claims to do

Holy hell

exactly "oooh analog doesn't cutoff right at 22khz" well okay just use a higher samp rate "oh well analog has such warmth" dude use ozone exciter or a nice saturator plugin do you really think you damaged ass 30yr old faggot ears are even gonna notice the difference? "but muh oscilaltor drift" dude fucking random lfo on the pitch jesus christ

It has a wide array of really nice sounds

You sound like one of those piece of shit high school band teachers from the fifties whining about electrically amplified instruments not being "real."

An instrument is something that makes noise. Whether or not you've heard any noise you like is not the fault of the instrument or the musician.

Dat old Pioneer CDJ500 doe. does it still work?

there's more, DSI Prophet 08 and a Korg MS2000 plus an Arturia Beatstep Pro

does it have fm? granular? It looks like a shitty rompler to me that also features a iphone app level synth dsp

It's not that much. I just bought a $2,500 guitar.

chaka chaka chaka chaka chan

It's almost like they planned to price it what people expect to pay for an instrument, and not what it's actually worth.

>retards emulating sound from shit samplers in a DAW

nigga u just described dj snake plus shitty dj mixer effects in recreated in daw

Link something produced from that please

You do a lot of granular?

what is optimal for making music?
i would assume you could do everything you want with good software, and a small midi keyboard.
Costs:
Pirated software - Free
MIDI keyboard - Under 200$

i wonder if selling overpriced beep-boopers to stupid college kids with delusions of dj grandeur is a good business move

yea but not in the sense like soundscapes and stuff just granular by definition, very large grains up to 1/64 or 1/32 or even 1/16 divisions. I love that one that come with reason I don't know the name malstrom I think, best digital synth I've ever used for weird dark morphing ambient koan soundish mid scooped shit

i saw reason on the pirate bay, not sure which version

You won't like it unless you enjoy long self-indulgent modular synth noises. It doesn't do music that you'd sing in the shower.

no amount of expensive doohickeys can take the place of talent

>>not having a modular synth

I'll reconsider my life because I want an instrument I can bring over to my friends house without a U-Haul

What are you on about I have like 3k in hardware. I just find it funny how people say hardware is useless and yet they run all their sound through some plugin to make it sound shitty just like some old 12 bit sampler. Then in the same breath will tell you that hardware is useless, if that's true then why does everyone in the industry try to emulate them?
Yea I use it sometimes for it's Isolator. It's has a really good one that not many people know about. I bought it for like $50.

Agreed. i would say only spend money on more instruments if its money made from music. eg. if you are a name brand producer, go for it.

Also to any faggots on here trying to justify buying expensive shit, DeadMau5 made all his early music with FrootyLoops.

What do they get for a number one hit $$$$?
(OP)

>I want an instrument I can bring over to my friends house without a U-Haul

youtube.com/watch?v=X5e0TVUC_ko

then you can eat some soup afterwords

It's more out of curiosity than wanting to hear music. I just want to hear what comes out of all that.

$800 on ebay

It's gonna be rad. I bought it from Carvin/Kiesel guitars custom shop. Neck thru model, multiscaled, 7 strings, Walnut body and neck, with 2 purpleheart stripes down the neck and a purpleheart body/headstock top, with a Zebrawood fingerboard. It's gonna be sexy as fuck dude.

Honestly when it comes to keyboards you're probably right. With a guitar or drum or anything made out of wood, it is easy to estimate the value of the instrument. Half of it is paying for the parts and the other half is the time/labor.

With a keyboard... you're just paying for specially designed buttons and the shell and the hardware inside, which isn't too fancy.

k then, this is three of the modules triggered from the Pressure Points CV sequencer through a voltage quantizer

youtu.be/xFWhh3WuHpk?list=PLvqzf5WoIekglwsGR2svfnJLH-CjJshj8

You might be onto something with that spoon. Would you let it go for $850? Could you include a can of soup for that price?

$850 brand new. Might as well spend a little extra, you're not really saving anything buying it used.

yui is sexy

He actually linked something, the madman!

I liked it. Sounds like Kraftwerk.

>DeadMau5 made all his early music with FrootyLoops.
So? He is a shitty edm producer who's only appeal is to drugged out teenage dude bros. He takes sample packs and throws them together and then shits out a song. It's like being impressed with Martin Garrix who literally just arranges vengeance sample in FL and plays it to venues full of ecstasy riddled teenagers.

An akai is a midi controller, this is a synthesizer. those "keys" are a sequencer.

have you seen how much hardware the man has?

Name some good EDM, then. Or is it easier to dismiss an entire genre?

DONT DO IT! it's a normie baiting you for your dank fedora knowledge

I fucking hate Penn Jillette

he hates you fucker

where has all that bullshit got you user?

It's an incredible thing to stand in front of and use. The instant control you have over tiny aspects of the sound is incredible. And it can make noises no digital synth is capable of, things like using audio frequency square waves as a clock to trigger a sequencer simply can't be reproduced on digital synths. The big drawback is that it never makes the same noise twice, you spent ages setting up a patch, record it, tweak a couple of knobs then it's gone forever.

He probably does, he puts alot of effort into being an edge lord like you

>implying it's even a lot

my desk looked like that in 2009

>Name some good EDM

youtube.com/watch?v=w15oWDh02K4

It's got me a thing I've wanted since I was about 14 years old, a big analog modular synth. It's fun. It's got me fun.

then why does everything sequeuced on it sound like I'm at santas workshop in outer space?

I really like the idea of these, maybe I'll get it 2nd hand one day.
For now this cheap-ass thing fills my needs though.

your wife/mother/wifemother must love the mess

Other modular synth users look down on me for using actual musical notes instead of just creating random noises. You can't please everyone.

I don't dig it. Have some Burial.

youtube.com/watch?v=8k_f2QK77ew

Speaking of portable music thingies, whatever happened to the tenori-on? Used to think it was wicked when it came out, although now it looks kinda dated.

Dont.
Buy an Es-1 for a $100 and never go back. Volcas are trash.

is it a hobby of making noise like a nerd or are you a musician trying to create good music becasue I'm gonna be honest and say everything made on analog/modular/eurorack/daisychain hardware set-ups sounds like the exact same bullshit beeo boop beep over and over with no good rhythm or anything because you can't even change the rhythm worth a shit in step sequencers or it's just some droning noise for 10:00 min.

$900 dollar gimmic midi controller.
In all honesty it more of a piece of art then an actual good midi controller. You would be better off with notation launch pad for a $100 though

I'm sure some day someone will compose a piece of music that everyone in the world likes but I'm not holding my breath.

You can't expect Japanese tech fads to stay in production for much more than three years

>no amount of expensive doohickeys can take the place of talent
This

Look at what somebody like Reggie Watts can do with just a couple simple devices that do nothing more than loop his own voice.

Music is 99% talent. Unless you want to be a mainstream music star, that's totally different.

Reggie Watts
youtube.com/watch?v=UXyHf_SpUUI

but... 600 bucks????

They did it's called happy birthday song >:)

Thinking you can make any decent music on a daw when you could by a modwall and sound like this
youtube.com/watch?v=tbLt0S0W5jE

Jesus Christ, why'd you choose that ancient piece of crudely produced dance pop? Just because it's a catchy tune?

>Dont.
Too late, I had it for a while now.
Never really looked into the Electribes tbh, just wanted something to replace the ole 505 and it does that pretty nicely.

I fucking hate that!

Basshunter is god
I love the melodies and basslines in his music. Every one is so original.
youtube.com/watch?v=P3CxhBIrBho

it's not really a bang for buck piece of equipment. It's for cunts who like small boutique hardware.

vsnares did some pretty nifty all-modular stuff though I'm pretty certain he sequences it all from a computer

Hey Deadmau5 can play marry had a little lamb...

At 30:30 in this video
youtube.com/watch?v=2mBa6_mwHq0

and then you have to do a bandcamp funding drive because you're broke from buying so much modular gear lel

Because EDM producing mouthbreathers will pay that much

Tim?

ooh, hello new band. Thank you!
