Listening to Ron Paul talk about the eventual collapse of the US dollar has scared the shit out of me. I am considering buying a huge swath of land and farming, hoarding gold, and buying a gun. Not even joking. Is no one else scared???
Can someone speak on this matter? Are we fucked? Should I bug out of society with the decent amount of money I have and live off the land?

My idea has been the same for a long time. Buy land, cultivate a section into plots for controlled logging. Make a lumber mill and produce enough lumber once a year, sustainable, to pay the taxes on the land.
From there you can even grow your own food and provide power if you wanted. Even if it doesn't come in my lifetime, my kids will have it.
Its basically the idea the rich had a long time ago: preparation, hence the estates and the trust funds and their kids not having to work for generations.

Btw, Solar power isnt your best option. Solar panels produce more emissions in the moment of their creation than they save over their lifetime and can be hard to replace.

You can dig a water well and use a greenhouse to pull in multiple harvests a year of goods you need less of over a long time or for specialty items year-round. Bulk crops like wheat for flour or rice can be cultivated traditionally.

Gold has a lot of uses but honestly I wouldn't. It's going to be more about arable land, resources, etc.
The wealthy people in the world have made their fortunes and then spent them. They know what's really important. They have us all chasing currency because they equate it to other things. Problem is that they own everything so they set thet price and control the market. They use banking and debt to gain ownership of everything from land to water to minerals all over the world.
