For me satanic warmaster, dark throne, burzum, xasthur, leviathan, dimmu borgir, emperor, mayhem, bathory, enslaved, empyrium, gorgoroth, and celtic frost were the ones that were thrown at me by multiple people 7 years ago, everything else was rec'd from there pretty much

Well fine, it's a recommended mix of a little pagan, a little ds, a little medieval, and a little everything else. You get a little taste of everything on that chart. I've seen people do charts that are focused on a country or sub genre but I haven't seen a chart that gives you a taste of everything. You're right that it's random, but if you made a playlist of a song from each of those albums and listened to it a few times you'd pull away what you liked and it wouldn't just be a single sub
