Do people still get popped for torrents?

I never have, and I haven't heard much about it lately.

Have any of you gotten earned (or more) lately? And if so, was it a public or private tracker?

I always wondered how they could prove you uploaded to other users, anyway. It seems like the burden of proof should be on the accuser.

Note: I do not philosophically accept IP infringement as being immoral.

Just wait till TPP passes. Then we're fucked. Till then they can just hope we feel bad about it when they complain to our ISP and the ISP warns us of the infringement, then log into their lawyer site and pay for avoiding court.

you wouldn't steal a car

>warns us of the infringement, then log into their lawyer site and pay for avoiding court.
You've never actually done this, right?

You do know they know literally nothing about you beyond your IP and ISP?

I've gotten a bunch of those notices, just ignore them.

I only got a notice once when I seeded a game of thrones torrent for like three weeks straight. It was my favorite episode (the red wedding).

You only get busted if you seed. 99% of my other torrents I leech. Yeah, I know, I'm a fucking asshole, but I can't afford to leave my computer running all day because my electricity bill is already $400/mo

Got one for torrenting GoT. I guess HBO honeypots some of their shows. Funny thing is we have HBO, but the site is fucking slow as fuck because people were binge watching before the new season.

You wouldn't steal abbo land.

Right. But if I could copy one with no effect to the owner's car I would

you wouldnt dl a gf

Don't pirate anything current or profitable and people are less likely to go after you

Of course I ignore them. It's entirely reasonable to assume people/lawyers put up torrents for the purpose catching/logging and luring unsuspecting newbs to pay in their scam.

Be kind and rewind

Every time I download a torrent, I change my IP address right after.

>$400
you have triggered me
how?

underrated post

I'd use a VPN if I were going to do something like this, which I wouldn't, because a few bucks for a movie is short money for peace of mind.

i use itunes for anything I want to watch.

VPN's are cheap. Get one, use public trackers.

Private trackers are full of dorky cunts with their shitball HnR policies. They're only worthwhile if you're willing to up your investment toward seedboxes to leave running 24/7.

fuck your itunes

That would be.... Interesting

I live in the land of Tuna
You can do download whatever you want.

Not literally true. They will file with court for your ISP to release your info to them. Your ISP may (or may not) comply.

Then they will look through that list for anyone interesting (e.g. anyone with money), and go after them.

Think its still legal to download shit here for private use, the distribution is what gets you in jail.

This is akin to selling a stolen car... if the car's new owner got it from somebody else, they'll keep climbing the totempole until they find the original crook. Same idea with IPs.

...

If they don't know my current IP then they can't even sell me a stupid notice.

I've only received complaints when it's something popular that's licensed for sale in the US, like Game of Thrones. Now I use a VPN for torrents.

I stopped using a vpn because it doesn't seem like much of an issue anymore

RARE

Unless the VPN's are also honeypots.

I mean... can you literally think of a better way to track IP's doing naughty things?

>kickass torrents is RIP
>TPB is always under attack
>no private access

What do?

Obviously you should research the VPN that you're going to use.

Torrentz

^ what he said. But then again, there's no way of 100% security, and it's pretty easy to puff yourself up on the internet with fake reviews, fake testimonials, fake forum posters.

In reality, nobody is going to want to go after you bad enough if you bothered with a VPN and you just download your episodes of Blacked and the newest hollywood Jew bullshit superhero movie.

They only go after easy targets (retards using their home ISP, which is hollywood using a big fishing net for the stupid fish that are easy to catch).

Don't act like you're Kim DotCom. A.) you aren't that big of a kink in their system, and B.) you're not that fat, hopefully.

sure i would

$400 a month for electricity? What the fuck do you have an indoor weed operation?

These days it's always the ISP that finds out. They are able to recognize how torrent traffic behaves. They can send you a warning directly through your browser now, I've gotten one before. Do it too much and they will cut you off or maybe notify the MPAA.

Also, fuck off

I have a six-monitor setup that draws the majority of my power and I also grow mushrooms so I keep three humidifiers running along with a couple high-intensity blue lights in my closet.

if you upload nork movies here you get crucified.
Downloading it might cause problem, they have this movie group now, that actively wants to send out bills to ppl dling. I dunno how dats working out.

More scare shit I think, bluepills have netflix and some hbo

kek 400 krones is usually really really expensive for what I pay...

power the only thing that's usually relatively cheap here. hydro and a lot of potential for moar

swag

>high-intensity blue lights
W on those?

Like weed lamps we use are usually either 400 or 600W.. couple of those and you got a powertool running 12 or 8 hours a day constantly. it drains power like shit

My ISP in Texas got me a few times for Xcom and Fallout. Fuck them.

nigger detected

I got a DMCA the other day for game of fucking thrones, I think I got too careless. but mostly I think they just care about new movies, music and software, old stuff you can get whatever you want.

In Canada, the maximum penalty is $500 for personal use and $5000 for commercial use per violation.

It would be a complete waste of money.

There was only one case where they even bothered going to court to get information, but nothing came of it.

16 or 12.. damnit one smoke then bedz or need to eat fucking agian

I've only ever gotten them for HBO and porn.

It's probably most effective for porn because people will be embarrassed and pay them to go away.

Shit I streamed the whole thing through my Amazon firestick using the kodi app.

Have been for years and nothing happens to me.

>kickass torrents is RIP
What are you talking about? I've been using it for a while without issues.

youtube.com/watch?v=7TrovtcNhpQ

It's not the downloadin, it's the seeding. As long as you change your download folder from the default of whatever program you use and don't seed there's never an issue.

...

As far as I've heard and seen it isn't really an issue anyone cares about, the only people getting popped are the ones downloading and seeding CP.

Got one email for dark souls 2. Apparently it takes 6 before any action.

In the UK we need a TV license to watch live TV, even if it's an internet stream. Apparently there are detection vehicles that can detect real TV signals coming from houses without licenses.

But I'm curious as fuck how they're supposed to be alerted to the fact someone is streaming live TV, unless that person is watching off the BBC website or some shit. But other live web stream services won't care, ISPs have no reason to care, and with https how is it even possible for the government jews and their meme vehicles to even find you doing it? Is there some method I've forgotten?

>download completes
>delete .tor immediately
>enjoy torrented file
>no DMCA

Im a digital niggaboo

they catch you while you're downloading it not after you already ahve it

No one cares, dumb britcuck.

do you have a radio liscence?

Been downloading stuff for over a decade
never had any problems

Delete the trackers and you have no worries

there aren't enough lawyers on the planet

all they can do is pursue a strategy of deterrence by making an example of a few people

if you're REALLY unlucky you can get fucked but no

intellectual property is more than just music/movies/warez

China rips off patents and costs us over $300,000,000,000 a year which has an impact on real people and also reduces economic incentive for companies to invest in R&D, slowing technological innovation

bit rude desu

>be me
>go home to parents house for the weekend
>download porn on torrent on home internet
>dad gets email from comcast the next day with a cease and desist for downloading the following: [porn title]
>mfw my dad finds out

Nice

So if I get a DMCA notice email what do I do?

Ignore it?

if it's an email, ignore it
If it's an actual letter through the mail, prepare to shit your pants

this is bullshit. Even if it's a letter it doesn't matter. Just toss it out and try not to get caught again

they are at kat(dot)to or something now

edit it's kat(dot)cr

>using torrents
Come on now, that's 8 year old level of internet usage these days. There were much better and plentiful ways to download stuff 15 years ago. Literally no excuse to get busted if you using torrents and you know your ISP is spying.

then pray tell where you get your shit

I got a cease and desist letter from Turner Broadcasting because I torrented the first two seasons of The Boondocks and continued to seed for a few days. Haven't seeded since and no letters.

>2016

HOL UP

...

Your isp keeps track of who uses what ip for months you dumb fuck, it's all logged down, they can just check the dates.

Fuck off faggot, keep your utopian paradise issues across the pond.

I have a lot of emails, if I happened to be sent this notice, through what medium would I receive it? Thank you.

You are asking wrong questions, since you are under false belief that there has to be an address. I'll give you a hint: people connect to server or no server at all, just interconnected pcs between each other, you can add a password if you want, but really not necessary. I could think of many ways to do this and i know many ways. The only thing important is that you bring some stuff, 1 terabyte was entering ticket 5 years ago, of course sorted, depends what you looking for. I had like 1 terabyte of rock, then i had 3 terabytes of films and you get all kinds of invitations, depends what you offering, there are people for everything. Of course the names of servers you won't find anywhere mentioned, it's simply an address you enter you and those people who share know.

Whatever is attached to the ISP that provides you internet.

>Canadian calling Brit a cuck
>Canadian cannot even use certain radio frequencies
wew lad

so, the warez scene? even better, they know exactly where you are connected from, and a mole/internal leak is even more incriminating.

>Current year
>Downloading porn

Got a notice from my ISP once when I accidentally left a public tracker torrent seeding.
Never had anything from seeding on private trackers though.

Pay for good games, you useless faggot.

Do you want these mofos to be flipping burgers or working on games?

Douche.

lol are you trying to troll me faggot?

Nah, i run couple of such servers, i would search around internet for vinyl collectors, invite them to join, when you have like 1000 people in each server, each sharing from 1 to 10 terabytes and you have like many hundreds of servers, since other people invite you too, it's really limitless. Lets just say i was going by genre on imdb and could download anything and then i was going by itunes or cdbaby by genre and download it all. Nothing to do with warez or sites, you need a client program, could be a modified program you made and you give it to people.

That sounds really neat. I dont torrent much shit at all, but I am aware of a lot of peer to peer crypto stuff. Your strategy has got to be the one thing that pisses off the DMCA fucks the most

3 years ago I left a seed open for 24 hours and got a letter in the mail saying I owed universal pictures $20. Never sent them that $20.

This is the first time I feel good for being a hue. Nobody here does shit about torrenting(sometimes we get Whatsapp blocked though)

You got public places too, but mostly for recruiting and you got public clients, but really no serious person will use public places, while with torrents everything is public. Many public client programs have build-in options if you need protection, but it's really not necessary, since nobody knows where you are and everybody uses a password and address. It's not accidentally going to happen that somebody you don't know is going to connect and even if, i can any time kick him out or simply not even allow him to download from me.

The game market needs a crash.

It's the only way to get SJW out of current gen vidya development.

Pirates ahoy!
