Where's your source to say that they don't? Or is it just what you assume to be true? What kind of bullshit thread is this?

I'm sure they do turn a profit, but only because you could make more money by being a janitor than by playing for a My Little Soccer franchise.

>Liga MX averages 10 times as many viewers per game as MLS in the USA alone
>La Liga routinely gets twice as many (20 times as many for El Clasico)
>Literally 50 million potential fans
>MLS decides to take advantage of this by pandering to a tiny minority of fedora wearing anglo hipsters instead
>puts a new team in fucking Atlanta instead of Miami

MLS is weird, it's like they don't want to make money.

It's incredibly popular here in Orlando for some reason and I mean with all types, not just brown people. Orlando City is by far the most represented sports team as far as bumper stickers, shirts, etc.

It's crazy how little they make relative to players in real sports leagues. The Dogers are paying Kershaw $215 million. That's almost twice as much as what every single MLS player combined earns in a year.

*Dodgers

And for a better comparison, since Kershaw's deal is multiple years, the Dodgers's payroll for 2016 alone was $253 million. The payroll of every MLS team in 2016 put together is about $125 million.

Either these guys are getting fucked hard by the owners, or MLS is WNBA-tier.

miami had an mls team before and it failed to draw any fans

>2015

Hopefully not so they can fail and we can get a real league and pyramid instead of the plastic bullshit.

Can't wait for the first MLS franchise to move to another city, gonna be great. Seeing the shitty supporters groups get butthurt and Euros bantering

Houston Dynamo (a.k.a. San José Eathquakes)

MLS gets WNBA tier tv ratings.

all the american soccer fans bandwagon a mexican or EPL team

not having a salary cap would mean LA or NYC would win all the time and small market teams would go broke

A pyramid would never work. Take, for example, what would happen if MLS had implemented that this season:

>Chicago Fire get relegated
>90% of fans stop going
>meager TV money vanishes
>they were making jack shit on merchandise before, but now they're making nothing
>team collapses
>soccer now has no presence in America's 2nd-largest tv market and 3rd-largest city, and by extension most of the midwest
>popularity of soccer as a whole suffers
>Chicago replaced by some brand new team in a smaller market playing in a HS stadium
>legitimacy of the league as a whole damaged by amateur hour
>that team just gets relegated anyway

Soccer doesn't have the popularity in the US to handle promotion and relegation. Football could do it, baseball could do it (just look at how many fans show up for college football/AAA baseball), but soccer couldn't. People who support a "real" pyramid must really hate soccer, because it's the most surefire way to kill the sport.

They almost all bandwagon Mexican teams. Leon, America, and Chivas average 1 million viewers per game here. IIRC the EPL averages like 200,000, while MLS averages 100,000.

MLS needs to find a way to get the Mexican-Americans and the illegals to watch. They're the only way the league can ever become successful.

Fire already have terrible ownership who are sitting pretty on the fact that the club is going to be worth more based on the league's success no matter what. Chicago may as well not even have an MLS team.

The Fire have been doing this for a decade now. You see what happens in all of Europe and most of the world is that there would already be multiple Chicago clubs and one of them would eventually replace a poorly run club like that.

A pyramid wouldn't work now because it would have no base. There was no grass-roots demand for the sport and the USSF has never tried to establish any.

MLS was started just to get the World Cup. If we scrapped it and started a pyramid from the bottom up, it would take decades, but it could work.

just put 5+ teams in nyc and la and the plastics can bandwagon the fotm like in london.

>MLS still refuses to allow the Cosmos to enter even though they're more popular in NYC than the plastic mcfranchises they have there now

The Cosmos owners are actually in talks to buy the Redbulls and rebrand them as the Cosmos.

It will depend on how the expansion turns out.

Over the next 4 years, the MLS will add 4 new expansion teams for $150 mil a pop. That's $600 million in total. The MLS would have to go full NASL to fuck that up.

That's probably because the Cosmos don't exist anymore.

how did NASL fuck up. that shit happened when i was a baby

MLS is about visceral passion and mental fans, they don't give a crud about making a profit.

Fuck the Chicago Fire. I live in Chicago and at least relegation would give the club incentive to stop being absolute fucking shit

the club will never succeed. Stadium is too far away and the ownership is garbage. Fucking trash club. I'd kill for a REAL soccer team in Chicago that actually plays in the city, would be fun as fuck to go to games

do any of the colleges in chicago have good soccer teams

>MLS still refuses to allow the Cosmos to enter

this is completely wrong, the cosmoes told mls to fuck off.

Loyola had a decent team this year but it's super unusual

Should have done this at the first place. Now the first investment has been wasted.

>Can't wait for the first MLS franchise to move to another city, gonna be great

You're a decade late pal
