Watered-down format with too many mediocre teams and pointless group stage matches.

>pointless group stage matches.
what

This. Also the danger of terror attacks and those russian hooligans ruined any positive vibe right from the start.

It had a terrible group stage but I think it got much better in the knockouts.

>Wales vs Belgium
>Poortugal cucking France
>Germany getting eliminated despite assraping France in the first half
>Germany and Italy's penalty spaghetti
>A Dentist eliminating England

And Spain vs Italy was probably my favorite match of the year.

the russian hooligans were the only good thing about the tournament. gave it a real good atmosphere

>Watered-down format
what was the format again? or atleast what was the part of the format that everyone disliked

too many nigs

>A Dentist eliminating England
this was actually my favorite moment this year

>tfw a literal Alberto Barbosa won the tournament for Portugal

24 teams qualified, and only 8 were eliminated after the group stage. Also, the convoluted qualifying scenarios made it almost impossible to determine who would play who in the second round.

I quite enjoyed the clapping tbch

They redeemed the EC for sure.

That's how WCs were from 1986-1994

I knew the OP of this thread would be American. I just clicked the thread, looked at the flag and bam, no surprise. A fucking burger. How predictable.

Use this:

You see the flag without clicking on the thread.

Chinese moot should really implement this also to the catalog in 4chin.

people aimed for draws in group stages because you could be 3rd and still qualify

there was too many teams awful format

...

EC was good

>tfw no French gf
All French girls look the same so any of them will do

i liked it

is this the part where we pretend like 2012 and 2008 werent shit either?

i liked it, my favourite part were the rage threads after portugal won each knockout match

WTF she look like a girl version of me O.o.

>Girl

shes russian

>Girl

2008 was pretty good
>Netherlands raping Italy and France only to get cucked by the Ruskies in the QF
>Germany vs Portugal
>Turkey pulling a Ramos in every single match
>Spain playing the best football of their golden era

I did personally find 2012 worse than 2016

>Girl

>girl

A team that finished third with 0 wins in a group of 4 won the whole thing

says a lot about the opposition

post pics no homo

>divegrass

2008 was fuckin lit
>Turkey

why did they even allow 3rd place to have a chance for qualifying

The qualification for the knock out rounds from the groups was one of the most cancerous things I've ever seen in sport. Teams were fucking rewarded for cautious, boring football. Three 0-0 draws would most likely see you into the last 16.

And because more games means more money, it's going to continue to happen at future Euro tournaments. And the World Cup is getting reformatted soon as well. It's awful.

the part-time dentists were the only good part about that tourney

>. And the World Cup is getting reformatted soon as well.
the fuck, are you serious? How do you know it'll be the same type of reformatting

2008 was great you mong.

>that Dutch side raping the group of death
>Russia and Turkey surprising everyone
>Spain playing exciting 4-4-2 football with Senna an Xavi in a midfield two

The winners of the tournament only won 1 (one) game in normal time.

watching the Dutch BTFO Italy and France in 2008 was doopin' mental. But look at them now

This article is from two days ago.

bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38326076

I didn't know this had happened but it seems Europe's top clubs have called on FIFA not to expand the tournament to 48 teams.

I don't know if their opinions will matter to FIFA though.

>a fucking part-time dentist
euro 2016 was a blast

>Europe's top clubs have called on FIFA not to expand the tournament to 48 teams.
Are they lobbying for this because it can yield more profit? Because it kind of shits up the game

The irony is that many of the smaller first-timer teams would have made it through to the tournament anyway, and the only team that actually benefited from the rule change was a weak Portugal side who managed to repeatedly draw their way into the most boring cup victory in Euro history.

Ultimately, the only thing anyone will remember from this is Wales looking strong and Iceland knocking out England.

>tfw too strong to win the euros

this

besides france & portugal run, everything else was borderline amateur

Bring back golden goal

The winners of the tournament were literally gifted the easiest walk to a EC final in the history of major cup finals, ever.

They don't like it because it means more NT games and more chances that their stars get injured.

Both France and Portugal had easy routes to the final.
France had a full week's rest before playing their first knockout round. Portugal simply took advantage of Croatia deciding not to attack for some reason and fucked them on the counter attack in extra time.

Germany's in the 2002 WC was almost as bad.

>Group with Saudi Arabia, Cameroon and Ireland
>Knockout matches against Paraguay, USA and South Korea

because eurofags produce the worst forwards in the world

fuck you we still gave the Germans a good fight in 2002

messi, alexis, aguero, costa (this fag is not spanish), tevez, neymar, suarez, cavani, falcao,
aubameyang,

best euros have produced is lewa, who isn't even the top scorer in bundesliga,

>alexis
>cavani
'I Started Watching Football in 2014' american confirmed

midfield is what makes goals la

tbf to him sanchez is a forward under Wenger

mueller, bayolll, ibrahomivic?

only one of those is a forward

bayol and mueller are the definition of wide forwards

dumbasses, muller and ibra are forwards, bale is a winger. which isnt the same thing as a wide forward

bale is a wide forward

>rolando
>RVP
>Cantona
>Henry
>Gerd Müller
>van basten
>nilsterooy
>bergkamp
>klinsmann
Then again i dont expect you know any of these players without googling

bale is not a wide forward

>a small 10M inhabitants island win the tournament

Really makes you think.

2008 was great though
>We got assraped by Netherlands in a funny way
>Italy as well
>Then Netherlands fall for the russian meme
>Fucking Turkey
>Dat Xavi assist
>Dat Torres goal
>Ballack losing in the final as usual

Just like how you did?

Why the fuck would I want literal Yuropoor Nobodies at the WC? Because lets be honest, adding more teams to the WC would give UEFA even more slots. South America would probably get two more, while Asia and North America would get one more. Oceania would get one too.

Getting rid of these literal who Islands from CONCACAF needs to be Priority. Seriously, we Have ten countries connected by Land, those should be the CONCACAF. The Carribean should be their own Federation.

What the bursthuerst be asspain when "we" get got le championat?

France literally had an easier way to the final than Portugal.

Also the comparison to earlier titles make not a lot of sense because the format was changed.

If you look at WCs, 2010 Netherlands had a similarly if not easier run and so did Argentina in 2014.

The favorites were in the same side of the bracket. It was shit. When you see too many teams that are good in one side readjust. Now we ended up with a meme team as champions. Fucking Europoors.

no terrorist attack

They should go back to the 8 teams format.

literally 2 days after the final famalam
plus, there was that guy who killed a police officer and his wife, and abducted their three-year-old child in the name of Allah

His history with swedish NT has ended there

it will only get worse desu
>next wc in russia
>next euro spread across all europe
>wc after in fucking qatar

UGH

Ibrahimovic, Lewandoski, Torres, Villa, Sheva, Henry, Totti, Klose and I'm just talking about a few ones for the 00s

Friendly reminder that Copa America > Euro

copa america sucked dick this year t.b.h.

...

boring games

what tournament?

...

fucking glorious

You have a thread for these kind of posts. Its called /arse/

Because we lost

>WE

>not associating yourself with your local and national teams
I guess Americans with their franchise system can't understand

>WUZ

...

>N'GOMBWELE

24 Teams, thats why

Why didn't the koreans refball their way to the finals?

was i the only one who liked it?

Asian cup>everything else tbqh

Because Portugal won. Undeserving teams winning always suck to watch
