My grandmother might have just had a stroke Sup Forums, I'm scared. Anyone have family members who had strokes before? Can you tell me how bad it is and if it can be treated?

Status report? I am assuming it just happened. Is she in the hospital now?

Most of the time, a stroke isn't going to do serious damage. but you are likely to have more strokes and then sustain damage.

Can you confirm if it was a stroke?

She's in the hospital right now, and from what I know they said she started slurring her words like she was drunk.

Signs point to a stroke, but I'm no doctor so who knows what it was. And as far as I know she's never had a stroke in her life. I can't really confirm it was a stroke, it's too early to know. I'm hoping to hear a status update pretty soon though.

My wife fell down in the bathroom and had to be carried to the hospital. At first we thought it was a stroke, but it turned out to be much worse.

What was it?

My Grandma had a stroke last year. She called an ambulance by herself and was sent to the hospital. she stayed about 2 weeks and fully recovered.

Strokes can be minor or cause death. You won't know how bad it is without more information.

>2 weeks

Geez, that seems like a long time but it's nice to hear that she fully recovered.

Brain cancer.
2 different types. There was 1 big mass and what looked like shotgun pellets of another.

They wouldn't operate until after a round of radiation. The radiation killed off the little ones, but the big mass soaked it all up like the little shop of horrors and tripled in mass in just under a month. (feed me... feed me more)
They scheduled surgery to remove it, but she died about 30 hours before surgery.

So, tell us OP. Did she seem to say or do anything a little squirrly the past 2 years?

They checked her for possible brain damage, very thoroughly.

With a stroke, there is always brain damage. It's a matter of where and how extensive.
Your granny got off lucky. Next one might not be so lucky.

It's your grandmother. I've got a new flash for you, she's not gonna be around for to long.

Holy fuck this sucks. Where do you live?
Here in Germany they are really quick with removing tumors surgically. braincancer patients are monitored all the time.

As far as I know she has been fine the last couple of years, well she was on some medication, not sure what it was called or what it was for. I mean, she hasn't been in the best health but I don't recall her having something like stroke/heart attack or anything of that nature before.

Just because someone in your family is old and doesn't have long left to live doesn't mean you just act like that. That's really insensitive and cold.

Murica. The land of the most advanced health care nobody can afford.

I told the docs to remove the large mass for a biopsy, but they insisted on radiation to "reduce it" first.
Apparently, there was these ganglions that scared them.

People on \b\ sometimes act like dicks to fit in and wish to be accepted.

Jesus, grow up.

I watched my dad have a stroke out of no where & he died a few weeks later, grow some balls pussy...what are you into gray gran gran pussy or something? It's like we are breeding the next generation of pedophile swarm like zerg, they all come out screaming about tennis at olympic time

I'm not him, and I agree that it seems cold and kind of a dick thing to say. But half of our medical expenses happen in the last 7 years of our lives.
It's always been a rough thought to me that we could cut total medical expenses in half by forgoing those last 7 years. Countered by the fact that this our family, our mothers, our parents, etc..
I mean, we can save a shit tone of money... but it's grandma, it's mama, it's eventually gonna be us....

Don't let the dick heads here get to you. Close family and loss will shake anybody.

About three months ago I lost my mom. It was kinda out of no where. It hit us all hard. I started drinking a lot. I was lucky to have family I can count on to help through the dark times.

I know death is a part of life. Still, I wish I just replied to that post.

You're the one that sounds like they need to grow up, you can accept that someone doesn't have long to live but it's always nice to be positive about it. You never know how long someone will live, if anything you sound like an edgelord.

Grow up

May your children feel the same way about you, user.
You could save them a ton of money by standing in a dumpster before you an hero.
That way, nobody has to clean up after you.

>Can you tell me how bad it is and if it can be treated?

Can be bad. Treatment isn't curing.

Paramedic here

Depends on how long after the symptom starts she got to an ER. If it was within 4 hours she has a good chance of making a full recovery. Shell get a Head CT to determine the type of stroke and then they will administer a drug to break the clot.

If they catch it fast enough there should be little to no lasting damage. Time is brain

Depending on how bad it is, there is usually some therapy. The sooner she starts therapy, the better. Therapy starts with trying to move affected limbs, speech, and generally just trying to move around.
The more she tries to get around, talk to people, and do things, the better off she will be.

Most recovery happens within 6 months, but one can improve one's condition over years. Some people never recover the use of their arm or leg.

My dad told me the paramedics got there super fast, not sure how fast it was after they called 911 but it was pretty quick.

What do children have to do with this? This guy is by his own words scared about his grandmother. Not a parent. Not someone who's health taking a turn would be a surprise. Most people loose a grandparent or two when they're kids.

This isn't about being edgy. This is me wondering how this generation can do anything useful when they are scared of life.

Thats promising, but there isnt a lot we can do in the field.

Its all about how much time between symptom start and arrival at the hospital.

Or it could be something like Bells Palsy, which is far less serious

It happened to my grandpa. It's typically bad for old people because even if they're just barely going crazy, it can be difficult for their brains to recover. However, recovery could still be possible, idk what shape your grandma is in. My condolences my dude

Yeah, I don't know what exactly happened. But they said she was slurring her words, so I figured it was most likely a stroke? What else makes you slur your words? Thought it was strokes that did that.

Like she was just washing dishes and started slurring her words when she was talking, I wasn't there but that's what I was told.

Ask your parents if there are any posts they didn't reply to without seeing immunity dog. If so rush to the hospital and don't let your grandmother sleep tonight.

If its just slurred speech, then thats actually promising. Advanced symptoms usually involve facial drooping or one sided weakness, usually the inability to move their arm or leg

Many things can cause slurred speech alone.

My parents don't come on Sup Forums, they aren't aware it exists or what it is. And they certainly don't know much about the internet in general.
