RCMP officers escorted evacuees from devastated Fort McMurray through their burning hometown on Friday morning as massive wildfires continue to rage through northern Alberta.
Fifty vehicles at a time were escorted by police through the now-empty northern Alberta city, carrying citizens who were not allowed to take a peek at the remains of their abandoned homes.
Once home to 88,000 people, Fort McMurray is now inhabited only by firefighters and police.
A helicopter is leading the convoy to make sure the highway is safe. The fire has torched 1,600 homes and other buildings in Fort McMurray. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said the first evacuation convoy will be 400 vehicles and officials would see how that goes.
Officials planned to continue the airlift of 8,000 people to Edmonton and Calgary which began on Thursday.

Recovery teams have not gone though the houses yet.
One of the big issues is that there are tens of thousands stuck north of town with no food.
Ayden Lopez
As of 14 hours ago, this was the condition of Saprae Creek: -all houses on Freestone from Firehall to Vista Ridge are standing except 72. -191 and 197 on Weiss are standing, no others heading west -Sommer, Conifer, Evergreen, and Spruce Valley Gate major damage

She has a new respect for this place. You guys were beating the news crews to info.
James Watson
Thanks for the bump.
Aiden Rivera
I try my best to get the news out quickly.
Right now a lot of the news seems to be about people trying to get out of the northern camps and there is a 400 car convoy trying to head south.
No update on Anzac, it was within 1km yesterday of the town.
>canada elects a flamer >country goes up in flames

As of evening, May 4, approximately 8400 people have been flown out of camps north of Ft. Mac. 25,000 more to be moved in the next 72 hours. Weather conditions forecast for 6 May are not favourable for firefighting operations. Temperatures in the high teens and winds gusting up to 40kph are forecast. Cooler, more humid conditions are expected to move into the area the morning 8 May, with cloud cover and a chance of precipitation in the forecast. Pets left at the McDonald Island Reception Centre were picked up the morning of 6 May and are being transferred to Edmonton. Infrastructure damage assessment is ongoing. An overflight inspection 5 May indicated the hospital, RCMP headquarters, Northern Lights Rehabilitation Centre and Suncor Energy Plant have not sustained any significant damage.

Grayson Collins
So far firefighters and equipment from Ontario and Quebec are going to Alberta BC has too many wild fires to send resources to Alberta I haven't heard if any American crews are coming up
Logan Mitchell
I am now on the east coast. I been all over the place, from Canada, Mexico, Plains, Great Basin, and now in eastern woodlands.
Cameron Howard
This is probably how the oil formed in the first place.
Luke Scott
>all of the infrastructure which sustained the oil industry hasn't been destroyed
Nicholas Hill
U guise :) Foreign workers are going to have to go home. No more perverted Filipinos handling my timbits with their little monkey paws.

Oh we threw hosers at em, but they werent as flame retarded as we thought
Joshua Sanchez
Well we did have a billion dollars lying around that could have bought hoses, planes, personnel.
But nope. They billio dollars was spent on 25,000 dependents, who in turn are getting welfare
Colton Rivera
I respect the attempt
Mason Reed
I agree that the money could have been better spent, but Harper did cut over a billion dollars yearly from the military.
Henry Nguyen
I live in Edmonton, and the skies are clear and can't even smell smoke like every year with wildfires in summer. Some retard from the states said they had smoke in Missouri from it.
how stupid are you? Do you know how large and hot the fires are? They can't even fly over them And then there's this retard that doesn't even realize there are many fires right now in Sask.
Sebastian Cruz
>how stupid are you? Do you know how large and hot the fires are? They can't even fly over them >Canadian planes are too shitty to even fly over fire miles below
kek you guys are truly pathetic
Robert Reed
It's almost 400 square miles large.
Logan Hernandez
The smoke from this fire is not blowing towards Edmonton. it headed south east.
Robert Moore
Don't worry soon the wildfire will spread in America too. The fire is moving south towards you.
Adrian Wright
A BURNING LEAF
Grayson Harris
Hear me out
is this a CIA operation as revenge for the burning of the White house on 1812?
Connor Perez
Nice meme it was the British that burned down the White House in 1812. Canada was not even a confederacy back in 1812
Liam Bell
damn... i always thought we had a one-up against Americans. I guess that's gone now
Grayson Nguyen
There are billions of burning leaves right now
Lincoln Hall
We weren't a country, but we were called Canada back then.
Wyatt Carter
Today is going to be windy and dry.
Ian Reed
Good. I hope this fire kills nobody, but makes Canada a 3rd world nation that I can exploit
Sadly that last image is from 2 days ago so it's twice that size now. 400sq miles or so. Thankfully it's mostly moved off innawoods.
Josiah Cox
WHAT THE FUCK IS YOUR SHITTY CANADIAN DOING? CANADIAN INDPENDENCE WAS A MISTAKE;ANNEXATION WHEN?
Henry Cruz
>1,600 homes and other buildings Wew, do these people have fire insurance? Not to mention the vehicles and rest of the infrastructure. Is there fine print like the overland flooding shit? Act of God? That sort of payout can force an insurance biz right into bankruptcy or do they insure themselves?
No, it's mostly plant matter.
Carson Jackson
Damn, if that shifts ever so slightly, I'll be getting ASHED
Brandon Sanders
Now we know how those poor Jews felt :^(
Ethan Nguyen
It's STILL fucking burning?
Nicholas Hernandez
What do leafs think of this? Is it divine retribution for electing weedman? Or are you all too high from the burning pot plants to care?
Xavier Carter
Not only still burning, but GROWING toward the sulfur pyramids.
>Canadian disaster "management"
Nathan Lopez
>insurance companies be like
Joseph Carter
This fire will burn for the next two weeks.
Austin Rivera
There are big wildfires in BC now too. Wow its almost as if this happens every fucking summer and this is the first time in a couple decades it really hit a city.
Maybe if the NDP hadn't cut "unneeded" funds to firefighters in Alberta this wouldn't have happened.
Jackson Ortiz
Trying to get that far innawoods I guess. Pic related
Wouldn't be surprised if it's still burning next week... there's basically 0 rain in the forecast and the forest is a giant tinderbox atm. Nothing to stop it.
Weed legalization is still a year away apparently ;_;
Lucas Walker
Why not use the oncoming lanes too? I never understood this
Gavin Cruz
So will Canada be split in two by this point?
Landon Parker
2 died due to a car crash in the smoke.
Michael Jenkins
As a saskatchewan leaf I see the way the area has banded together and worked diligently to provide shelter and take care of the evacuees and their animals and I am proud of our hardiness.
Eastern Canada is another story, but what we have out here is something special.
Nathaniel Lopez
Fuck me, can Albert's get a break? Why couldn't this be toronto Turdo is too incompetent to achieve legal weed.
Henry Thomas
They did for part of the initial evacuation. This is from today, which is a more organized convoy of people who were forced to flee north of the city now heading south with police (and helicopter) escorts.
Sadly it seems that the only 2 deaths so far (car accident on the highway) were from people driving in oncoming traffic lanes.
Thomas Campbell
No we already fixed our bridge :^)
Jacob Anderson
>BC sends no aid
Aiden Long
Toronto is all concrete and glass
The only hope for that place to be destroyed in Fire and Sulphur raining from he sky
