Album Surgery Thread

>Take an album that already exists
>Add, remove, shorten, lengthen and rearrange songs to make the album a perfect 10/10

I'll start.

Reflektor has a 10/10 hiding in there, somewhere underneath all the fluff. Arcade Fire doesn't want to admit there's fluff in there, but there is. Here's how I'll change it.

>axe We Exist, Normal Person, You Already Know, Joan of Arc, and Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice)
>take Porno down to 4 minutes, change the lyric "little boys with their porno" to something less weird, maybe change the title altogether
>cut Supersymmetry in half.
>move Afterlife to the end

And there we have it. A 10/10 version of Reflektor.
Even with all the fat cut out, it still runs at about 40 minutes, which should be enough to satisfy without overstaying its welcome.

*deletes Yah and Element*
*throws Loyalty, Humble, Love and God in the fucking garbage because 'deletes' would be an understatement to how how terrible they are*

I agree with everything except axing Awful Sound and changing the lyrics on Porno.

We Exist, Normal Person, You Already Know, Joan of Arc could all be on their own album together and it would be great.

Afterlife would have been AF's best closer.

>*deletes 15 minutes of meandering in Cassandra Gemini*
>inserts track "Frances the Mute" from Decoder

>remove all the 30-second interludes
>make some of the lyrics a bit less cheesy
>increase production value by 30% for clarity
GOAT dream pop album.

>replace Archie, Marry Me with Underneath Us
that's it. that's literally all I would do to make this album perfect.

>axe the best songs on the album

>best
least eventful*

>redo the mixing so it's not as painful to listen to

Oh boy I have so many of these.
>remove Tony's Theme, I'm Amazed, and Brick is Red
>replace them with Isla de Encanta, Caribou, and Nimrod's Son
>end the album on Vamos

I would somehow add specific elements to each song so that they retain some sense of individuality.

Each song on this record is way too similar. They all use the same drum packs and patterns, the same melodies, and the same effects, with some exceptions, of course.

Get rid of Drunk Girls and Somebody's Calling Me

Shorten One Touch, All I Want, and Pow Pow

I'd personally change We Exist for Flashbulb Eyes.

how would you surgery this, Sup Forums?

It is perfect in every way.
Any surgery done to it would just botch it.

>remove Yellow Submarine and Doctor Robert
>add Paperback Writer and Rain
Well that was easy. Why couldn't they have just done that in the first place?

>Remove the weird Pickled! reprise at the end of that track
>Extend Nose Art, build and develop it more as the track goes on
>Remove Intro//A Cosmic Drama
>Remove Arkestry
>Remove German Haircut
>Shorten Recoiled
>Remove Table Tennis
>Throw in a few ambient tracks somewhere in the album, only a minute or two long each
>Mix the cymbals quieter in almost every track

>remove electric guitar
>add a finished version of dancing for money
>use the alternate versions of cities and mind
>make life during wartime more similar to the way it sounds on Stop Making Sense

>*remove Backdrifts, We Suck Young Blood, and Scatterbrain*

>shorten A Quick One Before the Eternal Worm Devours Connecticut to 3 minutes. It doesn't need to be longer than that.
>Remove Telefony and Who Would Leave Their Son Out in the Sun?
>recover the masters

>make life during wartime more similar to the way it sounds on Stop Making Sense
oh god this. i can't ever go back to the studio version after having seen/heard stop making sense

Deletes "pledging my time"

there was this weird stigma in the 60s about putting singles on albums. It's why Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever weren't on Sgt Peppers even though they'd fit perfectly with Penny Lane ending Side A and SFF starting Side B. I think George Martin said leaving those 2 songs off the album was his biggest regret.

Flashforward 15 years to Bowie's Let's Dance and 4/8 songs are singles. Oh well.

Now THIS is one botched surgery, mate.

>deletes backdrifts

How about you delete yourself bub

This, but scrap the rest as well.

Chance the Rapper's new album was crap.
Justice's latest song was crap.
Arcade Fire's new song was crap.
Gorillaz new album was shit.
Childish Gambino's new album was shit.

I honestly don't think I like any current artists anymore.

It's an 8/10... but consistently interesting and emotional

if every track was more developed to be 10-20% more satisfying and detailed it would be a 10/10

avey just needed to tinker with it more

maybe he can make a Down There 2.0?

Put the boss baby on the cover and we're good.

>Rain isn't on the album
Amerifat Detected

10/10's don't exist, nothing is perfect

just as 0/10 don't exist, nothing is completely worthless

Make 2+2=5 longer with a crazier ending.

agreed.

Heather In The Hospital always gives me heavy feels

>honestly don't think I like any current artists anymore.
You're turning into an oldfag.
Why can't you just settle for meh tier music like everyone else

have you heard this cover?

youtube.com/watch?v=Iq75PGYqna0

Everybody gets a participation trophy amerifat detected.

not really, I'm not denying there are 1/10's

pretty sure most people would prefer to not make an album to making a 1/10

meant to say:
>Lengthen A Quick One Before the Eternal Worm Devours Connecticut 12 minutes

srry lol typo

>remove Hometime and E. Coli
>add Five Knuckle Shuffle, place behind AB/7A
>extend IBM ~2 minutes
>extend Walls of Sound ~1 minute

not bad but a little too hi-fi sounding. part of Down There's charm is the murky mixing.

I think that was the point. Ana Treacle has made some awesome other songs, and the covers he does are always in a totally different direction from the original version.

Remove The Way Life's Meant To Be, The Lights Go Down, and Hold On Tight, there, 10/10

>remove Thank You
>replace with studio version of Only I Can Hear, Only I Can Touch
>get rid of the false fade in Gang
>add studio version of Red Sheet between Stay Here and Big Strong Boss

>>get rid of the false fade in Gang
shit, nigger. what are you doing?
the false fade in Gang is brilliant. it's a high moment of the record and is one of the only songs to ever pull it off successfully.

are you wacky? it feels awkward as fuck

no.
it feels like you thought you just escaped hell but you get pulled right back in. it works in context.

I mean going by that it would work if it actually went on longer after the fade

Element was perfectly fine though

I guess I can agree with that.

>remove Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors, Morning Bell/Amnesiac, and Hunting Bears
>replace them with Trans-Atlantic Drawl, The Amazing Sounds of Orgy, and Kinetic

the B Sides should've just been released as a separate EP, that would be the closest we could ever get to a perfect Radiohead release

/thread

>axe Awful Sound (Oh Eurydice)
axing the best song? are you mad?

reflektor isn't hiding a 10/10, it IS a 10/10

fucking pleb

get rid of all the stereo hard-panning, like jesus christ. what was he thinking. everything else about the album is amazing except for the fact that there's this saxophone playing in my right ear only

get rid of heard a song, then make fish bowl and paintbrush full-length songs

>not being old enough to have the bootleg early release mix down over limewire that ends on myxamatosis
SOMEWHERE I'M NOT
LIGHTING FUSE POWER CUT

it's a cheap Beatles ripoff that Arcade Fire should be completely ashamed of.

With these few small changes this album may become a chart crusher.

This unironically never gets old.
Can't wait to see the cesspool of crushitposting when they release a new record.

I wouldn't remove Heard a Son entirely. I would just fix the kick drum.

>replace THat Part with the black hippy remix

Let's get to the bottom of this
Why Millennials can't take an album as a whole for what it is? Why kids these days need to to delete songs of an album? The youtube era we are living has shortened so much the attention span that even people who "claim" they "like" music can't stand listening a whole album in repeat until they get it?

Didn't Thom make his own version of this where he removed "Punchup," "WSYB," "I Will" and "Backdrifters?" I think it started with There There IIRC.

I'm 33 and prefer albums as a whole because that is what we grew up with.

Millennials born before 1990 can appreciate entire albums because we bought maybe 3-6 albums a month which is usually around 35 - 70 songs. Besides the radio, TV, and our personal collection of albums, that was all we had and we would appreciate songs that were 6/10's since our supply of music was limited.

After the 1999/2000's MP3 revolution, people had the option of any song they wanted to listen to at anytime. Any Millennial born after 1990 never had to pay for music. When you have millions of songs to listen to, why would you want to listen to anything less than a 9/10 song? If you had an all-you-could-eat pass to a restaurant with every food imaginable, would you pass up prime steaks and lobsters to eat meatloaf and pigs feet just to have the "complete experience"?

The same thing has happened to almost all forms of media. Movies, television shows, porn, you name it - the vast resources of free or insanely cheap media has conditioned consumers to only want the best of the best.

I don't have time to listen to 45 minute records
fuck off musicians, just put out the good singles

Replace Molly w/ Love Will Conquer All

Didn't Gus say a few weeks back that he's fixed the drum now? Wonder if they'll update it on Spotify.

>Heyyyyyyyyyyy heyyyyyyyyyy

But srsly why don't you like archie

twitter.com/AugustusBonito/status/847820912061628416

>remove treefingers
>insert fast track
>make in limbo less muddy

We Suck Young Blood is super underrated desu
It wasn't his, he found it online and asked people what they thought of it

>remove Pulk/Pull
It's one of the best tracks on it, you fucking pleb.
Agree with Morning Bell/Amnesiac though. I'd also add Cuttooth and Worrywort.

>Their B-sides are better than most bands' A-sides.
Fucking how

Yeah dude you've really nailed that one on the head, no one under the age of 27 listens to full albums anymore fuckin millennials

yeah no

wrong

>it's (yet) another massive, baseless generalization about "Millennials"

I sincerely hope this is b8.

I don't know...Archie is kind of a shrill track. They "hey hey"s get annoying very quickly. Pretty melody but it just doesn't work for Alvvays.

Oh, shut the fuck up.
I'm 21 and I listen to full albums all the time. So do all of my friends. You're not special.

Albums never went away.

This, you'd have to be fucking stupid to axe Awful Sound.

Hunting Bears is the best track.

It's probably my 3rd favourite track on the album, after next of kin and adult diversion. I don't get wanting to cut Archie out, but hey i guess it's up to you how you enjoy your album

The Life of Pablo

>put parts 1&2 of FSMH together, making it one song
>Stitch together Low Lights and Highlights
>Delete Freestyle 4, I Love Kanye, Franks' Track, Saint Pablo, and Facts
>Final Track list is

1)Ultralight Beam
2) Father Stretch My Hands (pts 1&2)
3)Famous
4)Feedback
5)LowLights/HighLights
6)Waves
7)FML
8)Real Friends
9)Silver Surfer Intermission
10)Wolves
11)NMPILA
12)Fade

>Delete Saint Pablo

This is a truly awful opinion. Even recover the masters I'm not so sure about. I love the way Deathconsciousness sounds and it adds to the lore or it.

Saint Pablo is too long, and it't more of an epilogue than a closer. Plus it's not even that good honestly, it feels like a throwaway track that does nothing for the album

1) Ultralight Beam
2) Father Stretch My Hands (pts 1&2)
3) Famous
4) Feedback
5) Freestyle 4
6) FML
7) Real Friends
8) Wolves (with Franks track at the end)
9) NMPILA
10) Saint Pablo

when did Sup Forums start thinking Saint Pablo is a good song?

Sorry snowflakes

>did somebody provide a somewhat reasonable argument?
>call 'em a snowflake, that'll fix it

Remove Bad Blood and This Love.

AF albums always have a banger right before the end and a calm thoughtful song right at the end. Afterlife -> a shortened Supersymmetry still follows that and works out IMO

I've grown to really appreciate that track

Take out the fucking bubble effect from all I Want, add Fripp-ish layered guitars, harmonies by Isaac brock and that's Heroes 2.0

>everything he yells FLEX YER MUSSELS bass boosts by 20%

"no"

>leaving in Silver Surfer Intermission

>Cut out Jay Z's verse on Monster entirely
>Delete So Appalled
>Cut out the skit at the end of Blame Game

>Brick is Red

fucking this, the blame game skit takes the track from a 10/10 to a 4/10, way too long and awkward to listen to with people around

If you remove CyHi's part on So Appalled it becomes a much better track. It could actually be great if it was just a Jay/Ye track.
Also TWISTA HAD THIS SHIT ON IN THE SOURCE
