Well, that's the thing. They're definitely not for the US consumer so it's going to be niche. I'd imagine that well established importers who could find a market for them or just do a few for the people who want one.
I'd get one just because I think they're pretty practical and do well on mileage and it's a car that I probably wouldn't care that much about.
I haven't heard anything about them coming back to the states but I'm not sure. Just back to the US market, a few enthusiasts won't really sell cars for them, even though it deserves the manual, they don't give it to us because they know it won't sell and they won't make money off of them. Even as a loss leader.
So they give it a (very good) automatic transmission because it will sell and they will make money.

And I think the only one here in the States (the only legal R34, anything else is some hackjob or illegally imported car that'll get ICE to your door faster than a burrito stand) is a 2000 or 98, not sure off the top of my head. But I do know that it is for sale.

Yes and if customs or the NHTSA gets wind of that they'll seize your property and have it crushed without compensation.
They import them into Florida, and in Florida almost everything DMV related is done third party, not at the actual DMV. So you basically have people motivated by business reasons to register or title the car there even if it's illegal.
So those cars end up in people's hands without being a car that's legal to own, so even though you have it and brag about it, it's still illegal to possess and they can take it from you at any time. Or course that all varies by your state but Florida will title almost anything because they want money.
