Do you share your music tastes with your family?

Do you die inside when you do?

I put on God Bless Ohio from Common As Light and Love in the car with some friends who listen to pop punk only and they liked it

someone gonna summon him ITT or what

'tis forbidden

>played Cardiac's Sing to God in its entirety during a car journey with my brother

I felt awkward the whole time and when it finished he didn't say anything

Are people honestly still triggered by that? I've fapped to it so often it grew stale years ago.

My grandma really liked listening to John Cale's 1919 album while I drove her around for her errands. She said it sounded a lot like christmas music.

Yeah, but fortunately my parents both like a lot of what I listen to, and both have pretty good taste themselves. I think my brother hates my music, but he just hates music in general.

Yes.
>played Jupiter from Sufjan Stevens for my mom
>she says it's a pile of crap
>puts on Duran Duran's Rio
Life is suffering.

Rio is a p good song.

DD > SS desu

Rio > every Sufjan Stevens song

RRRRRREEEEEEE!!!!!! DDfags LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously though, I just want mom to listen to different music.

There's plenty of overlap in our tastes but they clearly hate some of the things I like so I just don't play that when they're around. Listening to music isn't really a social experience to me anyway.

Rio is unironically great

Have you tried to get her to listen to Talking Heads or some other semi-patrish new-wave?

Get her into early Talk Talk, then get her into later Talk Talk

Me and my dad are both down with Prog, Djent, Metal, Hip-Hop, Rock, absolutely whatever. We're both musicians, I'm completely confident that he understands my tastes even if he doesn't totally share them.

Yeah, all the time. from what I've played for him, my dad likes Can, GY!BE, Slowdive, Modest Mouse, Acid Mothers Temple, Fishmans, and Les Rallizes Dénudés. I try not to play him anything that's too weird or noisy but he has pretty good taste

you think you have it bad?
she's the one with a pleb for a son

>My birthday
>On a car trip with parents
>Parents decide to play shitty music that I listened to as a teen when I still had music on an iTunes account that they somehow synced to

Bluetooth was a mistake

They can't stand anything I'm listening too. To them LCD Soundsystem is unlistenable due to James's voice (which I never understood the hate for), they freak out if there's no vocals, and my brother describes all Autechre as "random noise" and "not music," (that includes early Ae). They started making fun of me 5 seconds into Remain In Light because it sounded "gay." ITAOTS sounds like "cat screeching". They swear up and down I only like this stuff because "I want to be weird and annoying."

My mother likes whatever's on Top 40, my dad like Elton John and the Beach Boys (surf rock Beach Boys, didn't care for Pet Sounds when I tried to play it for him), and my brother loves rap and MBDTF is his all-time favorite album.

my dad eats up post-punk like preoccupations but doesnt like it if I play anything too soft or 'dadrocky' in the car

I want to play NDAD, Sunn O))) and Merzbow to your parents. Hopefully they will respect your tastes afterwards.

My mom think Pixies are weird.

>dad
>doesn't like anything 'dadrocky'
wew

well with a fat autistic car salesman as the lead singer who sounds like a higher pitched yelpy david thomas, who wouldn't at an initial listen of their catalouge?

he dislikes when I want to listen to steely dan, bruce springsteen, ccr, or fleetwood mac
i've kind of convinced him that ccr are good though

I mean I really don't know what you expect. If you want to broaden your families musical tastes don't get all angsty when they don't like ambient shit and make an attempt to find some common ground.

This, try with something more "mainstream" artsy stuff like Pink Floyd, Radiohead or David Bowie

I didn't show them Autechre, they found me listening to it. The stuff I tried to show them was LCDS, AnCo (MPP) and Talking Heads

I feel like this album would have been a lot better if some tracks were straight up cut from the record

how the fuck can you dislike remain in light so quickly? Everyone has heard Once In a Lifetime.

>listening to Drukqs on speakers
>ambient track is playing
>brother comes into the room
>"are you playing a videogame or something"
>one of the faster drill and bass tracks starts playing
>he loves it

CCR do have an great catalouge for what it's worth, even if Fortunate Son is a meme.

They think Radiohead is too weird, they think Pink Floyd is pretentious and obnoxious (I agree with them on that) and at the point I wanted them to listen to Bowie they wouldn't listen to anything I showed them anymore.

I would be more ashamed of that fap if the ass didn't looked so fuckable.

i mean my dad and his brothers showed me the misfits, minor threat, slayer and fugazi at a young age while my mom introduced me to the smiths, cure, depeche mode and deftones but i still cant quite jam amon duul ii or toumani diabate and captain beefheart with them so its give and take

Nobody in my family likes Rush, they only know Tom Sawyer. The only other person I know that likes Rush is my friend, but even he's only heard three albums. How did the greatest Canadian rock band only be known for one song?

Duran Duran is infinitely better than Sufjan Stevens.

music with my family experiences
keep in mind i dont live with my parents anymore
>with my mom in the car driving her somewhere
>she asks me to put on the music i like to listen to
>put yanqui uxo on the aux
>first song
>"its a little creepy. i feel like im on an endless journey going nowhere"

>in car with sister
>she wants to know the worst song i ever heard
>figure early swans should do the trick
>play "freak" over the aux
>she just stares in silence the whole time and for three minutes afterwards
>"well that was shit"

>with my dad
>he wants to know about radiohead
>figure he can handle kid a
>leave him alone with the turntable and come back about a half hour later
>he had replaced kid a with stop making sense by talking heads about halfway through the title track
>"sorry i couldnt listen to it"

>with my dog
>play my newly purchased children of god US pressing for him
>he stays the whole time and leaves once the music ends
>pupper likes swans

huh?

Same, same.

Actually not really I've got more cartoon poop porn than I know what to do with.

What are you talking about?

youtube.com/watch?v=jxYVa0q8q_U
I was obsessed with this song and the scott walker cover so I showed it to my dad and brother. they were listening to it in their own time later

What the fuck even my mom enjoys Radiohead.

your dad has better taste

>he's new

Oh my dear sweet summer chile, how have you ventured this far into hell and remained unscathed?

A pretty disgusting furry image that is actually detailed enough to get the attention of memers.

My dad thinks Heroin is a song that worships drugs

Any link or way to see it? Im kinda curious

There's actually a lot of hyper-detailed furry porn out there you just gotta look for it familia

you must be autistic. no one will EVER like autechre is you just put it on, and ITAOTS is cat screeching. fucking hell cunt use your head

Best song by them

Used to listen to Aphex Twin when I was really young.
Mother said some of it was "nice, relaxing" other times she just didn't "get it"
Played the latest Death Grips album while in the car with her recently and she said it gave her "anxiety"

Sure is

well he wanted to know about radiohead so i played him some radiohead

see

I know, but by detailed I meant graphic. I guess it caught on thanks to being Sup Forums related.

>tfw mom gets mad when i play music with no vocals
>says she only listens to music "normal people listen to"
She also said this when i was playing radiohead, she thinks they are some kind of underground band

If you met someone's who never heard of Radiohead, what songs do you recommend?

Well in that case I've got literal gigabytes of the stuff.

That looks really satisfying to get out

Sort of off-topic but does anyone else here just feel fucking invincible after a good shit

Not him but first take a note on the kind of stuff he likes then you show him something he might enjoy from the band.

all of kid a and amnesiac because its their best
he ended up listening on his own and liked pablo honey, hail to the thief, and the king of limbs

Yeah I know there's tons of that too but I guess that one in particular became a meme thanks to being a Sup Forums related literal shitpost but I might be wrong.

Invincible, and proud.

>Literally the bottom 3 Radiohead albums

Wow

Also I would introduce somone with In Rainbows, I think it's their best, and explores a huge range of styles, even for Radiohead. That, and it's their most energetic and exciting, good for someone who listens to a ton of pop and whatnot.

I put on some Iceage and my mom thought it was horrible.

I put on some Saint Pepsi for my dad to listen to and he called it "hotel elevator music"

hotel elevator music is usually pretty good desu

Y o u m e a n y o u d o n ' t l o v e t h e a e s t h e t i c o f l u x u r y ?

Honestly, the satisfaction is half the fetish

the autism is real

Your dad is a wise man.

After years and years of trying to find something, the only thing I've ever gotten my parents to enjoy is Nujabes. My mom likes most of the music in that genre, but my dad thinks people like Okawari are too boring.

My sister into most of the same music i like.
rest of my family:
Of Montreal, The Flaming Lips, Animal Collective, The Mountain Goats, Cap n Jazz, At the Drive In, Slint, Justice, MF DOOM, Chance the Rapper, Sufjan Stevens, They Might Be Giants, Ween.

...

Stop

I've had some... weird experiences playing my music for family.
When I was in my "mashup" phase, my dad strangely enjoyed the garbage I was listening to. However, to him half the actual, serious music I listen to is "lesbian music", even if it is played by a straight guy and isn't soft whatsoever. I got him from hating to digging Talking Heads via Stop Making Sense though.
Meanwhile my mom is a metalhead (but not even decent metal, I'm talking Avenged Sevenfold and Five Finger Death Punch here), but she actually cried when I played her Spectre. She thinks the bands I listen to are weird but seems to enjoy them most of the time (Car Seat Headrest is a pretty good example).
Meanwhile my sister hates "old music" (anything before 2000), and the stuff I've played her garnered reactions from utter hate, to indifference, to actual enjoyment. And varying degrees of over the years.
Overall some decent responses I guess, we all just kinda mind our own music tastes.

i've been browsing Sup Forums for like 3 years and i don't know wtf you guys are talking about

perfect image

although hotel elevator music =\= bad

my dad saw Talking Heads in concert and likes Zappa, Bowie, and John Coltrane. I showed him some of the more accesible CAN songs (Vitamin C, I'm So Green, Halleluwah) and he said he liked them

>hating Radiohead
>hating Pink Floyd
>hating Bowie
your mom is possibly one of the most contrarian people I've ever heard of

probably The Bends, then OKC
people who like the alt-rock of the 90s love THe Bends, and OKC is a nice transition to more experimental tracks.

>being this new

the only song i ever showed my dad directly was freak on a leash by korn when i was 12, he said it was "interesting"

Nope Freewill is

just explain it instead of being a faggot

They are trying to summon forth the forbidden image

>Mfw Scaruffi Is his mom

what is it

furry scat, I think it takes place at a subways

Just look for "spyro subway" on google

me and my dad used to listen to old country records together, that was a lot of fun

>Woman liking Ween
How do I meet one of those?

This card is useless!
