I'm not an expert, but I would taker the other anons advice about going to the gym and working on yourself.
You may not even need to go to the gym, pick up a cool hobby and work hard at it, and show it off to others. Girls are attracted to interesting guys and vice versa.

I'm 6'2" 220 lbs. I do carpentry for a living so I all ready show off some of that. I go to the gym to keep up my stamina not so much to gain.

Generally talking to them isn't an issue. It's getting to that point is what I'm struggling with. I used to just do bars but they are empty around here now

if you approach a girl out of the blue, it's probably best to start talking to her like a normal human and get to know her a bit first. Most girls won't sleep with a guy they just met if you just approach them at any random place (unless it's like a bar or club). Unless you can sense a strong sexual tension, then you can try to escalate things a bit.
I'd say Tinder or dating sites are better because you can really quickly get to the point, and you can find quickly who's interested and who's not

It works best if you can offer someone a nice experience, like if you can host in a pleasant space, offer free drinks, and look better than average. Be warned that sluts who fuck strangers through these sites/apps are more likely to be a bit crazy.

If you look ordinary, then take this as an opportunity to get inspired to take care of your body so you look good, buy some decent clothes, work on something that makes you stand out, and make sure you have your life together. If you don't have any of this stuff happening to make you attractive, then you can't really expect to get laid. That's how attraction works!

Sounds like you're on the right track. Put yourself out there a bit and something will come through. For me, about one in ten or twenty girls I talk with (for a while) on tinder or craigslist turns into a hookup. Don't worry at all about the rejections. Something will show up.
Also, I found once I hit 30 I became much, much more appealing to women, especially to younger women, so maybe you've got better times coming up in the future.

Ive always found that if needed to get my dick wet I could go to a bar, find a nice safe 5/10 girl, get her smashed drunk, and she would pretty much do anything I wanted.
