Putting audio through an analog signal chain rolls off the highs from a track automatically. I think most of these guys are doing it with an EQ intentionally to replicate that A E S T H E T I C. I agree, a little high register wouldn't hurt most of these tracks.

This stuff's really quiet and sparse, I have my system on full blast and I can't really hear much. There are great free online mastering sites that you could probably benefit from.

The bass and guitar don't really match eachother too well in sound. The singer has a great voice but when he screams it feels like he's not putting 100% in.
