towns isn't even country
alright what would you label him?
cause i fucking need more.
This is one of my favorites
I like it. John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Merle Haggard, and George Jones are some of my other country favorites.
lmao johnny reb
never heard john prine or lucinda williams, but george and merle are fucking timeless. any suggestions for john and lucinda?
could you give me an example of country music with fake emotion and meaning?
>example of country music with fake emotion and meaning
fucking easy, litteraly anything from nashville in the last 20 years
example : youtube.com
^ one of millions
really good albeit not my style, atleast that particular song.
never got into bruce but also never really gave him a chance, also i fucking love a good harmonica.
never anything wrong with willie nelson.
Give Springsteen a shot, he had a solid 5 album run (Born to Run - Born in the USA) that is seriously good. Here is another track with some great harmonica.
loving her was easier than anything i'll ever do again
rip
one of the most pretentious musicians ever (in the true sense of the word)
>alright what would you label him?
Ignore him, he's country, but there is a larger folk and blues influence in his work and style of playing than many other country musicians.
People on this board don't actually understand what country is. Folk is more political or traditional, and country is more personal, usually about matters of the heart.
>real emotion and meaning
>zandt
>i.e. the whiny, melodramatic teenage angst one with ZERO songwriting abilities that was forgotten for a reason, unlike avant teens believing he was a semi obscure gem
he's always been overrated in the Country threads here on Sup Forums but come on. Rodney Crowell, Steve Earle, Lucinda, Guy, Emmylou were all in awe of him. Susanna Clark even lost the will to live when Townes died.
>Sturgill Simpson for starters, also listen to him on joe rogan's podcast. Real heart in his music. He also was in a band Sunday Valley which is technically bluegrass but it is good too
>Jason Isbell, although he's more Americana
>Whiskey Myers, they're more southern rock
>Cody Jinks, his cover of wish you were here is amazing imo

Zane Williams, Dale Watson, The Turnpike Troubadours, Shooter Jennings and Corb Lund are all worth checking out
Eric Church has some crap but some of his stuff is pretty good
Whitey Morgan is pretty good. Here's a cover of a Towns song he did

>Born to Run - Born in the USA
you mean 8 album streak from ashbury park to tunnel of love
not a bad album in sight
He's a really nice guy

my favorite thing on Sonic Ranch
OP this is pretty ironic considering Townes' albums being ridiculously overproduced with that 70's cosmic orchestral country style is a problem that dogged him his entire career.
For the most of his life Live at the Old Quarter album was the only thing worth a damn until they smartened up and started releasing his demos.

heartworn highways documentary version
>overproduced
literally a weasel word for "it sounds too good"
our mother the mountain is a masterpiece
it also seems not many folk on moo know or like to talk about alt country. so I bring it up all the time in the country threads because if you like old country, then you'll probably also like a lot of the alt country stuff which if we were to label it accurately would just be called country, but that label is currently being used to describe bad pop music
user those albums get better as they progressed but his first record was an unmitigated disaster entirely due to the over-producing. There's a reason he re-recorded all of the songs in stripped down forms on later albums.

hayes is a treasure.
he deserves to be bigger.
so does corb for that matter.
probably my favorite song of his is, she left me for jesus. it's funny and sad at the same time
>literally a weasel word for "it sounds too good"
silliest thing i ever heard.
of course you can overproduce something by making it sound too clean, sterile and overblown with a shitton of added instruments and effects and bullshit. it happens all the time.

it just pisses me off to no end that great artists like them toil away i obscurity while Country radio playlists shill all their hot garbage.
here ya go op, check out lindi ortega

Oh, you mean Folk?
folk, country, and bluegrass are all interchangeable words for good music
steve n seagulls, they're mostly a cover band but not your traditional sort of covers. they take rock and metal and reimagine it as bluegrass

her new EP is so good.
i feel like she's finally coming into her own as an artist.
whereas she always seemed a bit like a novelty act before.
Thanks for telling me about this Hayes guy.
Bob Dylan was in awe of Townes Van Zandt.
