There's nothing interesting about a character that always wins and always survive (even when he dies), especially if it's not because of his fighting skills or his clever mind, but only because everything around him makes him win despite the odds ( LF, Melisandre, etc.. ).

Basically, compare Jon's situation to Jaime's.
Jaime is a thousand time the fighter Jon is, but when he rushed into a dozen men to kill Robb Stark, what happened? He got captured. This affected not only Jaime's story, but the ENTIRE story as well.

When he escaped and then went full retard and fought Brienne for fun? He got captured again and got his hand chopped off. This STILL affect his story even now. This will affect it for the rest of his life, nothing will ever be the same for Jaime, everything is worse than it was. (well on the show he still kinda fights dornishmen because fuck the plot making sense, but still, he's not the warrior he was. And in the books he just plain sucks).

He suffers massive consequences for his actions.
