What are some other "beautiful" horror movies out there Sup Forums?

Having watched Suspiria recently I became interested in horror movies with really surreal, beautiful atmospheres/settings/shots/scenes/etc. even if they're not super horrific.

Have not seem the movie but will watch it tonight.

It's a very beautiful film, in terms of the setting and lighting and technical stuff.

Not the scariest, but there are a few good scary scenes

TCSM
Or just watch more giallo

I always assumed TCSM was just another slasher, but those look like really nice shots.

Any more giallo reccs?

Grazie

Dan Curtis

Antichrist
Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht

The Von Trier anticrhist?

yes

Inferno

Coppola's Dracula has some really trippy shots and backgrounds despite horrid acting from Keanu and Winona

Gary Oldman and Antony Hopkins saved this movie

...

>No one recommending Near Dark yet.

While I normally would've ever link a Gizmodo-affiliated site here, I think this is a pretty great list.

I don't think so

Really should just watch Bava's entire filmography his visuals are some of the best there is.

idk horror is my absolute favorite genre and i wish i liked stuff like this.

i cant seem to get into really old horror movies like 70s or older. The only horror movie I can name in the 70s that I like is Halloween. Generally prefer modern horror. With other genres I am perfectly fine with older movies, but for horror I can't do it usually.

I need some really lesser known horror movies to watch. I feel like I've seen most modern horror thats worth a damn

What else of note has he done

Most genres lean, in part, rely on their history and classics not only because of cliches but also in terms of storytelling and visual elements and styles.

Horror is very reliant on its history, in terms of filmography. You need to get over that dislike of old stuff and sit your ass down and watch the important, classic works

And rely*

Black Sunday
Lisa and the Devil
The Girl Who Knew Too Much
Kill Baby Kill (Scorsese and Tim Burton's favorite and yet it has no bluray)
Blood and Black Lace
Planet of the Vampires (Refn got this restored to 4k and played at Cannes this year)
Five Dolls for an August Moon

If you wanna start somewhere I'd say Black Sunday or Blood and Black Lace. They're intensely visual films.

Watch Deep Red

This

This movie has no discernible plot but is very stylish

Does "The Cell" count?

Starry Eyes

Don't Look Now is really beautifully shot, but it's more a psychological horror/thriller than an average blood and guts scarefest.

If you're into classic horror, then Eyes Without a Face and The Innocents are absolute masterpieces.

Personally I love it when the filming style and the overall cinematography of the film fit in thematically with the "feel" of what's happening. Both Inland Empire and Angst (1983) are insane, chaotic messes designed to confuse, disturb and enthral. Although I'm not exactly sure it's what you're looking for.

Also check out Andrzej Żuławski's Possession, The Third Part Of The Night, The Devil, and On The Silver Globe. The best way I can describe his shot composition and editing style is "a goddamn fever dream".

Suspiria is an ugly movie like most Giallo and everything done by Argento.
Italian are fond of excessive pomp and baroque clutter. No sense of refinement or restraint at all.

Ugly language, culture and people.

Great list, thanks user

Kill yourself

A Tale of Two Sisters.

Not as much visually albeit it had it's moments, but the tragic story was what really struck me, I thought it was beautiful.
