>Black Female Lead. >Same network that Supergirl is on. >Producer confirms it will be "Progressive". >Progressivism these days often times is akin to SJW's.
Am I the only one who is worried about this show becoming SJW drivel? Sure Trek arguably leaned to the left at times, but to make it seem like it takes sides with SJW's and their current limelight is wrong and incorrect, hell often times they have expressed views in the shows that SJW's would feel as morally wrong even.
Keep in mind I am not complaining about the fact that there's a black Female lead, could care less about that, what I DO CARE is how they portray her and make her act like.
God forbid they fuck up the whole thing and make her seem like a fucking token or mouthpiece for Modern SJW BLM bs...
Hunter Sanchez
Black female lead isn't so bad, its the fucking ship and the CGI worse than TNG i'm worried about.
Eli Anderson
Star Trek has always been progressive
Isaac Peterson
name one Star Trek show that wasn't "SJW drivel"
Jaxson Butler
Star Trek was always progressive, hell they had the first interracial kiss on tv. It's just that in the last few years liberals have been running out of things to complain about (at least in the western world) and try their hardest to act like victims because their used to it.
How are our chances of seeing /film/ or an actual usable board for film and television discussion?
David Bennett
>TNG >cgi
Kayden Hernandez
Star Trek should be above contemporary topics, at least regarding star fleet.
Aiden Martin
Given how any discussions that are counter to the mainstream SJW narrative are verboten in this day and age, if this show truly wanted to be "progressive" in 2016 it would actually have to be more conservative in its casting and story.
The mirror universe is now real.
Kayden Perry
I don't care if the whole crew is trans, if its good I will fucking watch it. I like Bryan Fuller's other tv shows. Bryan Fuller also really likes Star Trek, mainly DS9 and TNG. I also really like DS9 and TNG, thus I will likely really like Star Trek: Discovery.
Nathaniel Fisher
These. Trek was never 'meme oppression complaint of the week' It *tried* to maturely deal with actual pre millenial liberal issues.
Thomas Hernandez
Yes because Star Trek has always been right wing
Adam Parker
see you self satisfied baby
Jose Bennett
I thought Fuller was the good one.
Aiden Johnson
these guys get it
Lucas Sanchez
He is. He's a 10/10 creator.
Alexander Bennett
((((((())))))))
Christian Thomas
>Sure Trek arguably leaned to the left at times >arguably >at times Lol?
Colton Walker
you're a retard who's never watched an episode of Star Trek
Ethan Diaz
Except there is a difference between a black captain and check your privilege die cis scum you're a fucking white male.
Camden Brooks
>CGI worse than TNG Thats impossible since TNG had no CGI
David Turner
>Thats impossible since TNG had no CGI >TNG >cgi
But that's wrong. TNG was one of the first shows to use CG. They used a CG Enterprise-D in the last two seasons along with the models and stock footage
Josiah Turner
Uhura herself was pretty much a subversive role, wasn't she? >black woman >serving as officer on the bridge of a ship >only maybe 4-5 positions away from the captain's seat >on a '70s program
Show was hella progressive.
Luis Collins
>OP posts THIS trek thread again >Most responses are actually calling OP out on being retarded
I think there might be hope for this board yet
Cooper Thompson
This will have garbage ratings and be cancelled after 13 episodes and forgotten forever.
Don't worry about it.
Ryder Moore
>70s
According to Nichelle Nichols, she was going to quit the show because her character never had anything to do, and MLK himself told her to stay on
Daniel Garcia
>Bryan Fuller At a guess, it'll be amazing and last not nearly as long as it should.
Henry Peterson
s Oh right. Sorry, '60s, brain's distracted.
But yeah.
Kayden King
So much this
Caleb Diaz
Guy has Whedon syndrome - coasting on what he did last decade while becoming even more self indulgent.
Jordan Taylor
Let's all get mad that in 1000 years a black chick is a cruise ship captain.
For fucks sake, pol has completely rotted everyone's brains.
Ryder Clark
That CGI is really really bad though.
Jacob Lewis
>Am I the only one who is worried about this show becoming SJW drivel?
Yeah, you sort of are, user.
>Black Female Lead. No big deal. >Same network that Supergirl is on. Same network Voyager was on. >Producer confirms it will be "Progressive". Every Trek is progressive. That's kind of its "thing". >Progressivism these days often times is akin to SJW's. Trek is also a reflection of the times.
Maybe you just don't like Star Trek as much as you think you do?
Brandon Perez
canceled after 1 season
Owen Taylor
Well, let's hope this one will try to do the same.
Grayson Ward
>Crying about a black female captain >When Sisko and Janeway already exist user, the "muh leftist agenda" argument is a little pointless in a Star Trek thread. You've had 50 years to be bothered by it.
Owen Diaz
That track record >canceled after 29 episodes >canceled after 14 episodes >canceled after 21 episodes >canceled after ONE episode >canceled after 39 episodes
Charles Brown
Season 1 - SJW drivel Season 2 - Starts to figure out that SJW is not what the audience wanted Season 3 - Greatness Season 4 - Cancelled
Luke Rogers
60s user, 60s.
Angel Davis
Season 1 - SJW drivel Season 2 - there is no season 2 Star Trek is a dead franchise and it's time to bury it.
Dominic Thompson
Na, even if it's garbage, the volume of trek fans warrants at least 3.
Asher Brown
well its star trek, so four seasons at least
Gabriel Moore
Eh, Star Trek's name should convince them to try for at least 5 seasons.
Joshua Lopez
I think its the social climate in which its being done that bothers him.
Do you think they would let janeway be the fuckup she was if Voyager was airing today. I mean shit think of the tuvix episode.
John Reyes
...
Evan Lopez
The real deciding factor for me is will it be Alpha or will it be in the reboot universe??
Aaron Green
Regular universe. 10 years before TOS so expect plenty of "hey it's young _____" cameos.
Elijah Moore
Fuller wrote for mostly Voyager, he wrote I think two or three episodes for DS9. Here they are, but remember he wrote most of these before he made all of his other known shows.
>They used a CG Enterprise-D in the last two seasons along with the models and stock footage
they didn't
>Of the Star Trek production team, David Stipes in particular, as well as – at a later time, to a somewhat lesser, more cautious degree – Mitch Suskin, Dan Curry, and Ronald B. Moore were the foremost advocates of applying CGI, Stipes already overseeing some of its earliest applications during the sixth season of TNG. Stipes had lobbied, in vain, for a CGI version of the USS Enterprise-D during that season.

Counterpoint: the most dedicated Trekkies are the same people who torrent everything and watch nothing through legal channels.

This nigga looks like he should be rooting around in my garbage.
Luke Hughes
The Space Age is over, you know? There's no societal expectation that humanity will live on other planets anymore. No one's been to the moon in half a century and NASA literally doesn't have a single functional manned spaceship in its fleet right now so it has to beg Russia for access to their decaying 40 year old tech.
Angel Edwards
It's a Fuller show, its going to be kino and singlehandedly save CBS from bankruptcy

This is incredibly and hilariously false. Die-hard Trekkies own more memorabilia than anyone could know what to do with.
I have TOS and TNG on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray. I have DS9 and VOY on VHS and DVD. I have ENT on DVD and Blu-Ray.
I own all of the films on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Benjamin Reyes
expect were on the cusp of laying the foundations for colonizing mars and the moon
Caleb Wright
How big is your lolicon collection, you fat fuck?
Eli Long
>black lead Why do studios do this to themselves? You're losing millions of viewers worldwide just for the sake of progressive subversion
Benjamin Roberts
Uh-huh. Just like fusion power, a room temperature superconductor and strong AI.
Logan Howard
>TOS is literally SJW propaganda >people are shocked that they'd return to this
Carter Phillips
Most people want a future trek
Hudson Jackson
This is the correct answer, not the harping "this" on "its always been progressive".
No, its how it has HANDLED progressive issues, which today's """writers""" cannot.
Its like Sup Forums has always been bad, which is it has not, and has been a meme since late 2011 when Sup Forums starting bringing in the drivel and garbage.
Camden Jackson
No it was profressice not sjw prooaghands They did not even have those voices back then.
Noah Smith
Star Trek is the good side of the left. This could be Star Trek on the bad side of the left. I'd like to believe that it won't be, and I'll reserve judgement until I see it, but my hopes are not high.

We gave blacks equal rights in the '60s and in return they spent the last 50 years giving US society wonderful things such as:
Colton Cook
Justin Bieber
Aaron Foster
>We
"We"? Who's this fucking we? You a time traveler? fuck off.
Joseph Peterson
"We" as in white America. It's not like blacks were the deciding vote to pass the Civil Rights Act ;)
William King
>jumps immediately to Sup Forumsshit Nice hypocrite post, literal drooling retard.
Bentley Wright
Why do I have the feeling you're gonna think it's the second no matter how well the show is written?
Christian Reyes
(((CURRENT YEAR)))
Gavin Cox
>black female lead I thought they were just non white? They could be an asian qt for all we know
Juan Bailey
>black lesbian captain
will go well with black female james bond, and white lesbian luke skywalker tbh
anyone that thinks they care about making a good show is probably retarded and incapable of reading between the lines at this point, they wouldn't bother pushing the WOW SO PROGRESSIVE angle in the media if that were the case
the earlier shows didn't rely on this shit to attract viewers before, which should be setting off warning flags already
Tyler Sanchez
He wants Angela Bassett as the lead
Tyler Brown
>minorities shoehorned into main characters for no reason other than "muh utopian society" >not SJW
Jayden Cook
Asians aren't "people of color"
Wyatt James
Shoehorned? They were just present why could they not be present? Why would they not be? You just sound racist now.
Utopias are not exclusively left leaning. Expand you definitions.
Nathan Hughes
they were minorities solely for the purpose of being minorities. they were literally cast based on race. if that's not racist i don't know what is
Zachary Martinez
this.
Battlestar Galactica (2004) pushed the envelope by banning abortion and exploring the ethics of suicide bombing during the worst years of the Iraq War. This could do the same.
Jeremiah Harris
Because the internet 2.0 didn't exist during most of the shows. They aren't pushing shit, I think he was asked about it in an interview. The only reason it seems like they're pushing it is because you spergeloards keeps bringing this shit up ad nauseum
Lucas Peterson
You aparently.
Carson Johnson
>Progressivism these days often times is akin to SJW's.
really made me think
Jose Myers
Ctrl+f "SJW" - 1 of 21
It's gonna be literally impossible to discuss this show on Sup Forums isn't it? I guess the Star Wars shit storm should have tipped me off but holy fuck it looks like Comfy Trek is RIP too.
Is it even possible to discuss anything here anymore? Can someone recommend me a site or board that movies pretty well that is capable of a discussion like Sup Forums was three / four years ago?
Blake Brown
It's going to be utter shit. I'm a pretty huge Trek nerd, and I'm not even sure if I'm going to bother
I don't care about the color or sexual orientation of the crew, I just want a good sci-fi show where they explore the galaxy and meet interesting aliens. But we're not going to get that, we're going to get preached at and no opposing side will be represented.
