I like the visuals but it felt very forced, and I don't know what he wanted to tell with the movie.

It feels like with Drive that he knew what he wanted, Neon Demon is like a bunch of good ideas welded together without much coherency or thinking of the bigger picture

It had some weird tonal problems. The first 40 minutes felt like some Lynchian nightmare, and I was fucking loving it. But after Elle dies it takes a weird turn and even goes a little into body horror territory. It was so strange. I liked it overall though.

Honestly this is what let me down the most. It really felt like he was going for a more stylized version of Mulholland Drive or something, and he was setting it up to tell it that way. But it only really lasted until the fashion show.[/spoiler Then it kind of went back to classic Refn.

Drive is a very well made movie visually, and I like how it constantly subverts expectations, but it was also immensely boring.

It needed a few more action beats. Maybe a sequence where he jumps through a window with his car.

I personally liked Only God Forgives. A lot of pacing issues but I think I enjoyed it more than drive.

The pacing was shit in that movie. But it was a pretty dark movie.

Also, the climax where he's supposed to have an epic show down and Goose ends up getting his ass handed to him.

The whole theme of God was cool though, paying for your sins and shit ie. asian man chopping off yo hands and deciding your fate.

Fear X is the only bad film Refn has ever made. His other films are amazing, especially the underrated Bleeder-
