I can tell you have shit taste. Those two films are overrated.

You didn't answer the question user

Pure kino.

There will be blood is good, social network is OK.

I really liked Ex Machina and 10 Cloverfield Lane. Aside from that Star Wars movie they're the only newer movie I've seen in the past few years. Everything else just looks so uninteresting.

best film of the decade. the ultimate pleb filter. if you don't get it, consider yourself a pleb... it works every time.

That doesn't make them bad

OP here, Love The Master. Definitely PTA's most ambitious effort.

how recent must it be to be modern?

Yeah, it's not an ambitious film, but I still can watch it every day of the year and never get bored.

There will be Blood
Winter Sleep
Güeros
The VVitch
Ida

21st century

can you explain it to me then? because i didn't get it.

Great movie.

youtube.com/watch?v=06Jg1EoXSy4

pretty good explanation in this analysis.

TSN is underrated as fuck. For most people it's just "that facebook movie". Didn't even get the fucking Oscar.

How is TWBB "overrated"?

then you're a pleb. read more and try to find out for yourself... i'll give you some hints but the rest of the thinking you have to do on your own.
essentially it's about masculinity and a men's need for companionship, love and a family and obstacles that are in the way of getting that...

The Social Network
Children of Men
The Martian (fuck you, I liked it)
Lord of the Rings - original trilogy
Moneyball

It's considered one of the best films of the 21st century, which it is.

PIG FUCK

well i yeah i know that. that's basic understanding of the film

hola reddito

indeed

No Country may have won the Oscar and gotten more attention at the time they came out but it seems TWBB is the more talked about today and the one with bigger "modern classic" status

Didn't see TWBB, but there's not much to talk about No Country. It was a very well done western, with damn good direction, good performances and terrifying villain.

Mah nigga

The Ultimate 80's Kino.

then you already got it, people tend to overanalyze PTA's films but there's not that much to them, it's always an emotional core and relationships between the characters that define his movies. symbolism doesn't explain his films...
PTA is not an overly smart guy like kubrick, listen to his interview on wtf marc maron, his films are easy to understand...

Dogtooth
Boyhood

>TSN is underrated as fuck
wrong

TSN is not underrated but it is genuinely a great movie

Gone Girl

Once Upon a Time in Anatolia

Fincher's second best movie.

wrong

>Ida
this

>TWBB
Most haunting movie for sure.

...

...

The Cuckold
Poor Little White Boy

Rate my wife's son taste

Got completely over shadowed by No Country and There Will be Blood (what a great year for film).

I thought this should have won best cinematography and Casey Aflec should have won best supporting actor.

This desu

>Movie is just pretty good, has very little depth emotionally or cinematically
>Routinely called one of the best movies of all time

Probably because a lot of people don't actually get NCFOM

Agreed, wonderful movie. GOAT soundtrack too.

>City of God
>made in 2002
>nearly 15 years old
OP asked for """modern"""" movies

If it came out after 2000 it's modern for me

2002 is fairly modern.

This. 2007 was a god-tier year in relation to cinema:

>There Will be Blood
>Zodiac
>The Assassination of Jesse James
>No Country For Old men
>Gone Baby Gone
>Michael Clayton
>Hot Fuzz
>3:10 To Yuma
>This Is England
>Eastern Promises
>Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
>The Diving Bell and The Butterfly

there's honestly no other year in the 21. century with that many great films

t. elderlyfags

2014 had:

Birdman
Boyhood
Guardians of the Galaxy
Interstellar
Whiplash
Nightcrawler
Grand Budapest Hotel
Gone Girl
The Babadook
22 Jump Street
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Calvary
Inherent Vice
Edge of Tomorrow
Foxcatcher
Leviathan

2014 is imo the best year for film in the entire 21st Century

My favorite kino of this decade is Whiplash.

Bait

Boyhood is shit
Guardians of the Galaxy is shit
Interstellar is overrated
Nightcrawler is overrated
Captain America is shit
Edge of Tomorrow is overrated

>hot fuzz

>interstellar
>capeshit
>boyhood

>Guardians of the galaxy
>Babadook
>22 jump street
>captain america
>edge of tomorrow
these are not great

>Boyhood is shit

Why does Sup Forums hate this film so much? It's universally acclaimed by critics, moviegoers loved it, and it's Linklater's masterpiece.

Yet every time it's brought up people just post "muh 12 years filming" and call it shit. I just don't get it

I'd add La Vie En Rose, Once, and Persepolis to that list.

for the 10s

for the 00s

>Considers that it's overrated
>Takes into account that it's rated as one of the best films of the century and concedes the point.

A bit hip today are we not? Enjoy a movie on its merits not in comparison to critics' opinion.

>ywn experience an angry amy adams hand job

The Master is PTA's attempt at outing poseurs by making something utterly disjointed that vaguely resembles a narrative feature just enough that it confuses them into praising it out of fear for being labelled a pleb.

An intentionally terrible movie carefully emulating a masterpiece. A true work of genius. Why do you think the plot of the film involves a cult leader who feigns insight and brilliance but is secretly full of shit? It's a metaphor for the film itself.

tl;dr if you think The Master is actually good you're a "pleb"

>utterly disjointed
It's pretty straightforward, actually.

top kek, another pleb detected. it works every fucking time. how does it feel having an IQ

Thanks for these user.

i legitimately think this is a great movie. not even memeing.

I'm gonna have to say this.

My first choice was Children of Men but that fucking blood splatter in the final 'oner' takes me completely out of the fucking film.

Tremendous visuals, though.

>disjointed
How? Do you not know what that word means or were you just too stupid to pay attention when PTA is explicitly telling you exactly what is happening? There is absolutely nothing vague about this film; at some points its directness is actually a little bit off-putting. Just goes to show that you can dumb a film down to a fourth grade reading level and still some third graders in the audience won't be able to keep up.

It's kind of amazing how everyone just parrots the same review and confirms their biases after, quite pathetic really. Dishonestly, any faux patrician faggot will tell you they watched it and came to the same conclusion as all the other bandwagoning frauds.

There have actually been plenty of different critics that have made their own spins on what the movie actually meant because you can construe meaning from anything even when there is none intended and symbolism from anything. It just shows how vapid patricianfags are.

Sicario, Zodiac, Children of Men, Mad Max: Fury Road, Under the Skin

>inb4 artificial masterpiece

Thejohnny Greenwood soundtrack was fucking phenomenal.

I hate it when people say modern when they mean contemporary

I posted this to another thread earlier this week, and it'd take too long to make one for 00s.

Why were the 90s so dark times

Sexual kino

>Linklater's masterpiece.
Wrong. Thats easily scanner darkly. Probably the most perfect and direct adaptation i can think of.

I really like linklater, especially his slice of life stuff, but boyhood was just so dull and meandering and it was a chore to make it through. I also kind of hate that kid.

Best taste

Only redditors hate Avatar

It's a decent flick, a bit forgettable.

...

Literally all trash except Kaguya. Fucking Samsara?? REALLY NIGGER? SAMSARA? WHAT THE FUCK.

Oh wait, you got Certified Copy on there. I have a rule where anyone who recognizes how truly great that film was has good taste. So you cool. But Samsara is still trash.

It's garbage
Nothing but special effects space Pocahontas

...

Also Miles Ahead
The Crank movies

No Country for Old Men
A Serious Man
Man of Steel

Its even in criterion

Just cause its overrated doesn't make it shit

This and Blue Valentine are pure kino. Can't wait for the light between oceans.
