That astonishes me too mate, but doesn't make it any less shameful how poorly Venezuela has been run.

I cannot understand why countries that have so many ressources - be they african, south american or anywhere else, really - yet remain so poor and under developed. You could and should be at least on par with European countries, who all have very little natural ressources, yet you fall behind in every single way.

The fact that Congo is unable to consolodiate itself and utilize the ressources at its disposal is no excuse for a country like Venezuela

This is what average venezuelan has to do to get food, medicines or even personal hygene products.

We start making line around 2-3 am. But carefully, if the cops catch us, they'll arrest/kill us (The government made laws so making line at early hours is illegal; so it doesn't look so badly). They mark us with numbers out of Sharpies and shit.

You get to buy only x number of packages of pasta, rice, flour or whatever they're selling. You can only buy once a week, on the day correlated to your ID card's last number. They scan your fingerprints to assure you don't buy anything else until next week. If you do, they jail you.

To buy diappers you have to prove you are a parent. No relativeshit, only mothers and fathers can buy diappers, formula, milk and whipes.

Sometimes you don't even get a chance of buying stuff; it's sold out when you get to the end of the line. And in the worst case, cops or National Guards come to the market and confiscate a big part of the food. They use it to sell it to poorest people and buy votes and political support.

I, personally, used to be middle class. Nothing fancy, good education and little luxury. Used to eat 5 times, as recommended by the doctors. I now eat only one time a day, and it's for dinner. Used to weight 70 Kg's now I'm 40 something.

Chavez won in a landslide. The people chose this. Don't act like this was forced upon you.
