How does a white kid get into jazz?

how does a white kid get into jazz?

if you learn music theory you eventually love jazz or at least you respect it. No exceptions.

Kind of Blue
then after that, Bitches Brew
and if you liked neither of them, then I'm sorry for you

Dave Brubeck

first, get over your desire for racist shitposting.
second, kill yourself.

one of those will work, im certain.

Listen to bebop and its subgenres first. Then try modal jazz. If that doesn't work then try jazz fusion and jazz rock.

you will never cum as hard as those two lads on the right

Live in the 50s

listen to john scofield

If you like metal, listen to John Zorn - Naked City
If you like rock, listen to Zappa or Beefheart
If you like hip-hop, listen to A Tribe Called Quest
If you like pop, try Billie Holiday
After you've gotten accustomed to either you can try Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew

Only gays like jazz.

Start with Rat Trap, Dingus, Ving Rhames, Goonies, and Bumdrop. Then move on to Zappa.

Take some meth, pick a bari sax and do Brotzmann covers.

this

I joined jazz band

Can confirm the metal and rock one.

start with soft machine or frank zappa as they're really kinda poppy then move to bitches brew or kind of blue

>kind of blue
>bitches brew
or you could listen to any multitude of other albums by musicians that aren't miles davis
this is one of the first jazz records that really hit me and its still one of my favorites

Honestly I'd say thought they were alright but nothing special but I only really got into jazz through Charlie Parker's and Oscar Pettiford's works, so I think that boiling it down to some of Miles Davis' most important albums is kind of just driving the whole thing towards a cool jazz of sorts. I ended up looping back through Bill Evans.

Speaking of him, I think that his work with Scott LaFaro is fantastic and great for entry as it helps you pinpoint what you'll end up liking in jazz - Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby are the main ones.

I'm a fan of Wes Montgomery's work as well, so you might want to check that out too if you enjoy some more fusion-like material.

what do you normally listen to man? what do you like about?

Kind of Blue is a good entry level album.

Might be true, but you don't need music theory to appreciate jazz. You just might not understand why some albums are so revered.

You don't need to be black or identify with black culture for jazz music.

This is true though. Sucking a lot of dicks while you listen to jazz might help you get it.

He doesn't

OP you might enjoy Ryo Fukui, his music is very accessible.

realize that jazz is for niggers who can't compose classical music and then go listen to some wagner

nice reddit meme

Stumbled accross him in my recommended tab on YT.

There's a reddit meme?

...

This isn't bait - I'm genuinely curious. My brief googling showed him coming up on a few le reddit posts, but it hasn't given me much context beyond the fact that he's been posted before.

Obviously a bit of a Sup Forums newfag

Listen to Mingus Ah Um.

That's what hooked me. Nice album of varying tracks that aren't too long to focus on. Eventually you'll be able to listen to Kind Of Blue, Moanin', and A Love Supreme as though they were nothing.

I'm white and I got into jazz with no prior knowledge with The Shape of Jazz to Come. Is there something wrong with me? Have I ascended?

the same way a polynesian gets into it fuck

yeah i got that too

jesus christ, google

gypsy was mostly white my man

Holy fuck that shirt reminds me of a MILF i fucked back in 97.
My senior year:(

By getting off at black men sucking dick

Its pretty mucore and a meme because a lot of people who arent really jazz fans like it. Frankly i think its terrible.

dont be a faggot, ok?

I would start more abrasive and work your way down if you're into that sort of thing. Stuff like Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, The weirder Miles Davis stuff (Bitches Brew, Dark Magus is a personal favorite).
