Armond White will give it a positive review because it features hot men + a gay subtext.

Mark my words.

ARE WE HAVING FUN NOW BRUVVA

He'll also blame Obama for the mainstream not appreciating a Christian film

i bet you it still ends with a higher RT score and higher average rating than Suicide Squad

>comparing a forgettable turd nugget to an ocean of diarrhea

it was remade

any stooge knows that

It got remade despite the original still being very impressive even by today's standards.

>A decent 0

>0%
Not bad i expected worse.

this, pretty much

Why would they remake Ben-Hur of all movies? The original is still great, and the chariot race action scene blows today's action sequences out of the water.

>The original
That's a remake too

How much is a three stooges autograph worth these days? I have a photo signed by all three Larry, Curly and Moe somewhere in my basement. How much is it worth.

REMAKING BEN FUCKING HUR WAS THEIR FIRST MISTAKE

JUST

But user, the 1959 version was already a remake.

As for OP:
>less than 3:30 hours
>less than 300 million budget
>no Heston
>no Wyler
>Rózsa score
>too much action
>Jesus showing his face

Those are some of the reasons.

anything is worth whatever you can get for it

THE HESTON VERSION IS THE ONLY VERSION

THE 1925 VERSION WASN'T EVEN A TALKIE

It was great desu
Not as great at the 1959 version, but still great

>female reviewers

It's at 33% now

I don't get it

Top Critics, user

top critics senpai, all critics include retards like diana saenger

No it's not. It's another adaptation of the book.

not only is Ben Hur still impressive, it's MUCH more technically inpressive than the cgi fest remak with no sets, no choreography, and no extras

It looked like complete dogshit from the trailers, so this isn't surprising.

>rebooting a masterpiece
>ends up being shit
Why am I not surprised?

I smell a huge flop, and it deserves to flop hard. There is a 3D option for fucks sake.

>jewish character
>played by a white englishman

>Jewish character
> played a khazar

It's an expensive ploy to get people to watch the original Jewish propaganda Ben-Hur.

>not just reading the book like an intelligent human being
gutenberg.org/ebooks/2145

>budget
>100m

gonna be tough for that to flop, considering all the marketing.

>there was no marketing

... damnit, its like, somehow, they know if movies are shit before they're released and don't try to hype turds!

ITS CALLED FOCUS GROUPS, TEST AUDIENCES

BUT SOMETIMES STUDIOS ARE SO RETARDED AND THE PEOPLE INVOLVED BET THEIR WHOLE CAREERS ON THE MOVIE THAT THEY THROW GOOD MONEY AFTER BAD AND END UP EATING A MUCH BIGGER LOSS OUT OF SHEER STUBBORNNESS

SEE GHOSTBUSTERS 2016

To be fair, the mistake made with ghostbusters2016 has been made before.

As there have been a lot of "feminist" movies made specifically for women that failed because women don't actually like movies.

>To be fair, the mistake made with ghostbusters2016 has been made before.
Not on the level of GhostJUSTers. They took a very popular IP that wasn't feminist in any way, shape or form and made it feminist while also antagonizing the core audience for the IP AND slapped a giant budget on it with no screenings in China. This shit was designed to fail.

Eh, it was just how the logic progressed. The fantasy of "feminist film," after all those failed attempts to make original feminist work, was to somehow take an already wildly successful franchise, replace all the characters with feminist archetypes, and, somehow, have it still be successful. With time travel or video editing or something.

But yea, thanks feig, you've proven that doesn't work, so this will never happen again.

Cause remaking Classic movies that are still good is a great idea

which is which?

Bout three fiddy

>appreciating a Christian film
does Jesus even show up in this version?

Suicide squad was a good movie desu senpai

I literally had no idea this movie was in the works, much less that it had been released already.
thats sort of impressive in itself

haha

>What were they thinking?

oh my fucking god

critics can't help but bring their horrible politics into everything

I wont lie, 'I'm with Hur' is actually pretty impressive considering how much you can say from just 3 words

MORE LIKE >HURRRR

HE'S VOTING FOR SHILLARY SO HIS OPINION IS ALREADY CONFIRMED GARBAGE

>ARE WE HAVING FUN NOW BRUVVA

no, no we arent

these horses are violent, im scared, i cut my barefeet on a rock and i want to go home

ENOUGH

1925
>The debut film of the union between 3 pioneering movie studios, Metro Pictures, Goldwyn films and Mayer Productions
>One of the most expensive and complicated films of the silent era
>people and animals fucking died while making it
>advertisements called it THE SUPREME MOTION PICTURE MASTERPIECE OF ALL TIME
>Still riding off the success of Ben-Hur smash hit play and 1916 Film in which its history basicaly spawned Copyright Laws

1959
>MGM is on dire financial trouble, they assign their best producer, Sam Zimbalist, to hire the best director at the time, William Wyler, to make this film that is designed to save MGM
>The most expensive film ever made by that point
>Top of the fucking line actors like Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins and Hugh Griffith
>unforgettable and glorious soundtrack by Miklos Rósza
>cost Producer Sam Zimbalist his life
>MASSIVE ad campaign

2016
>100 million dollar budget
>literally why actors
>guy who directed the fucking Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter film
>CGI Charriot Race with Fast and the Furious shit
>all those stupid action scenes and literally no character development
>A Biblical Epic designed to be a blockbuster in an era of fedora-tippers and SJWs

Geez I wonder why

I think it's as impressive as the 1959 version, have you SEEN that Circus Maximus? It's ridiculously huge even with the miniature special effects.

The scene where the Mother kisses Judah's sandal and Tirzah rests her head on his tears while he's asleep gave me feels

...

Why is this pic so spoopy?

...

Because it's a terrible scan of an old, probaly slightly deteriorated black and white photograph of 2 old men doing funny faces

They forgot to advertise the movie. I had completely forgotten about it since it was announced.

I'm seeing ads all over town where I live

Maybe they're aiming for the international audience?

I guess Fast and Furious 8 is masterpiece for you.

So my impression from the 2nd trailer is that Morgan Freeman masterminds dimwitted Ben-Hur's plans to get revenge on Messala and free the African slaves from the white man

> (((Horwitz)))
> (((Feinberg)))

Maybe. I mean, up until a day or two ago I'd forgotten this was happening.

There's trailers popping in my Youtube's main page, they're selling the special edition of the 1959 film all over the place, the book is for sale with the 2016 movie's asthetics, maybe that's what they're going for.

>looking up Ben-Hur on Rotten Tomatoes
>1925 version is 100%
>''At a shorter running time, this silent version is more effective then it's remake''
>wait a fucking minute
>1959 version is 83% (changed to 88% lately)
???????????????

>take a brilliant, technically marvelous epic
>remake it as a generic slo-mo CGI fest with no sets and no choreography
WHY ARENT PEOPLE WATCHING IT?!

But it is better

How the fuck did this even get made? It has to be some megalomaniacal exec's vanity project. There's no other explanation.

Both are fucking masterpieces, but the latter is more well know and is thus exposed to the "modern" critics who think it's to boring/sexist/mysogonistic.

My GF hates it, cause she can't stand the pacing. She has probobly no idea that it was even based on ha book in the first place, much less that there were previous versions

why did they remake this again to begin with? what the literal fuck

I wouldn't say better, I'd say equal.

>she can't stand the pacing
But the pacing is perfect, it's like being bored at The Ten Commandments, you either are not paying attention in the slightest and waiting for the action scenes or you have no attention span at all

Fun fact: The film was shot based on a script by Karl Tunberg, but re-written as they went by Christopher Fry and Gore Vidal

If people think the 3:30 hour runtime is long it's because we were spared the abomination that was the 5 hour assembly cut of the film, the reason for such a long length is because they didn't change the outline of Tunberg's script, they only re-wrote the dialog.

A lot of stuff was cut from the film, among those is scenes during the Roman Galley chapter of the film featuring a Rower that was Ben-Hur's friend that had a pet rat (who Ben-Hur helps find during the Sea Battle), an entire subplot featuring Flavia (Ben-Hur's Roman girlfriend) wanting to keep him in Rome, and Sheik Ilderim's daughter wanting to seduce Ben-Hur or something

There's a reason why it won the Academy Award for Best Editing.

...

>hunger games mentioned
Jesus fuck, at best, there was one good HG movie....

>at least one good HG movie
Even then you're REALLY pushing it.

Hunger Games is trash

WE

>why did they remake a classic film

Because they can.

I guess you could say; we've Ben Her, done that

brb killing myself

Amond is banned from RT.

TIL one of the three stooges was black

So is the ending the same?

Fuck mate, the jews just won't lay off of jesus.

He was talking about the CGI in HG though not the movies themselves. Tough I dont know if the HG cgi is good or bad since i havent seen them.
