Hi all, as the subject suggests I'm looking for albums that instil a sense of uneasiness, dread, fear, space etc. Some standout albums for me already would be Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans (while I like the rest of their discography, this was the first album I listened too by them and idk, none of them hit me quite like this one does), F#A#Infinity by GY!BM (this is the one that started it all for me. the amount of atmosphere in this album is astonishing, and anything like this would be an exceptional suggestion.), Galgenfrist by Nortt (not as liked as the others due to it's repetitiveness but still scary nonetheless). I find little to no vocals preferable, or more accurately I suppose would be vocals followed by long winding instrumental passages. Also monologue is cool too, like the intro to F#A# or some of the really weird ones on Soundtracks, they do a good job of making the listener feel really uneasy. Anyways gimme what you got !
Thanks !

you need spiderland in your life my guy
Lustmord
Throbbing Gristle - The Second Annual Report
The Caretaker - An empty bliss beyond this World
SPK - Leichenschrei
The artwork for Shipping News' Flies The Fields is sufficiently unsettling/creepy. The album is not, except for maybe the track 08, 04, and 05.
Lustmord is a good ambient artist

If you like Nortt, you might like some other black metal works.
Blut Aus Nord-The Work Which Transforms God
Unsettling Industrial bm. Always makes my hair stand on end.
Paysage D'Hiver-Paysage D'Hiver
Less spooky, more atmospheric. Absolutely gorgeous work. Shame it's summer time here, it sounds best during the winter.
Weakling-As Dead As Dreams
Monolithic and tortured. Possibly the best bm album from the United States. It's an amazing journey of an album, woefully atmospheric.
Sunn O)))-Black One
This album is an insanely wonderful mix of black metal and drone doom, with a guest appearance from Xasthur. It's a hell of an experience to listen to.

Came here to post Black One.

Lustmord is good, specifically the ambient album he did as an homage to Stalker, OP check it out
Really digging this one so far, thanks man !
I gave Sunn O)))) A spin a while ago but I'll definitely give them another go
I shall give them a go !
I'll add them to the list, plenty of time to listen while working

You know it's funny, ambient/atmo black metal is what got me into this stuff in the first place. Bands like Paysage D'hiver, Burzum, Forgotten Woods, WITTR etc, were great but I found listening to them for hours on end was kind of straining on the ears, because they're quite heavy and lo-fi, so I wanted something a little more "light".
The best I can think of is stuff in the vein of post-punk, goth, and shoegaze. Some recs I think would fit would be Have A Nice Life, Giles Corey, Current 93 (more folk but whatever), Black Marble, and I Am A Lake Of Burning Orchids.

Pharmakon - contact
Trust me
Not him but also listen to Birth Canal Blues by C93, its short (4 songs, ~15mins) and terrifying
I'd also suggest Dekadens by Lifelover
a lot of the album Tago Mago by CAN has this sense of dread throughout the whole album which peaks at the song Augmn
eraserhead soundtrack
also some current 93
Black One
by Sunn O)))
That one was kinda weak imo, Bestial Burden made me feel ill though
You need some Coil in your life
Ape of Naples is the most popular and very good
Also Current 93, if you like monologues listen to I Have a Special Plan for This World
This album is scary. Makes my hairs stand up.

It's comfy as fuck
Biomechanoid by Joel Vandroogenbroeck
Its not scary just unsettling
Skinny Puppy, OP, they are fantastic in their 90s and earlier stuff for weird and creepy music. Their modern stuff is more political, but still has an experimental edge.
Ohgr's solo "Devils in my Details" also has an otherworldly sound to it.
Dark plunderphonics
suffocate for fuck sake, especially if you know swedish

The Caretaker - Persistent Repetition of Phrases
this is eerie as fuck desu
youtube.com
Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood & Souls at Zero
Bongripper - Hate Ashbury
Don't let the name throw you off, it's instrumental, somewhere between doom and post metai with plenty of noise, always gave me a spooky vibe
Mule Variations is mad comfy, how is it scary?
Oxbow
Ling of the Jews makes me feel uncomfortable
it's scary in a way because it makes you consider one day you might have dementia and lose all of your memories

Broadcast - Berberian Sound Studio

Trio Trash. There's a particular track that always scared me called Log.
The beatles white album

The fact that desu
Have a Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
Trust me, this will irk you worse than any of the other shit ITT
there are very prominent vocals, and it's quite different from what you posted; but this album has a real Wicker Man, witchcraft, folk horror vibe to it
Dodecahedron. VERY TOUGH VERY SCARY
I assume the spoken word bits make a lot of people uneasy
I haven't listened to it yet, what's scary about it?
it's so bad it's scary, dont listen to it
I know a lot of people here will disagree, but some SALEM stuff isn't too bad. They created some pretty creepy/eerie work.
lmao witch house
trash
Not talking about their main work. Their other small projects.
Listen to the Glowing Man
they picked the least spooky NWW album
this is creepy as fuck if you've seen twin peaks
I've listened to this again since posting it, the lyrics are pretty fucking disturbing too
here's a small chart i made.
I'm very glad Toby Driver exists.
I searched "Penderecki" in this thread and got zero results. This is absolutley idiotic.
Kyrzystof Penderecki, especially as his music was used in The Shining, is what you want OP. This usage of music was HUGE in popularizing what we now think of as "scary horror music". the atonal stuff, etc.
Try some Kengo Iuchi. It's spooky ass Japanese avant-folk.

I never found SubRosa spooky, but I love them.
I don't know if "spooky" is really the right term for the aesthetic I had in mind.
>I'm looking for albums that instil a sense of uneasiness, dread, fear, space
Subrosa has a lot of songs that start out very haunting and end hauntingly beautiful. The way they write their riffs, like those ones after the first and second verses, and how they throw their two (three?) violins in there definitely make me feel uneasy, but it all keeps me captivated and on the edge until that climax kicks in. It's like diving into one of those underwater sinkholes.
holy shit that speak and spell
Ah, that's fair then. I get what you're saying.
So good. 'Threnody for The Victims of Hiroshima' and 'Polymorphia' too.
