So I just started taking a computer class. As a "quiz" I need to create a problem for someone else's computer. Any ideas? I've been researching but I can only really find common problems. I want mine to be sneaky and hard to fix.

drop it from the top of a parking lot.

>I'm not sure but I think the problem is that it's in a million fucking pieces.

fine:
1) replace the cmos battery with an old cmos battery that barely has a charge.
2) hack the hosts file and see how long it takes anon2 to figure out why everything they send the browser to redirects to 127.0.0.1
3) ...delete system32?

anyway, going to bed. good luck with it.

Corrupt the os

Screw with the bios settings lol.

Teacher used cmos battery as an example so can't use that one but good.
System 32 will fuck up too much.
2nd one might be good though thanks

Also good idea, thanks

Re-wire it so 110 VAC goes straight to the motherboard. Who needs a power supply, 12V DC is for pussies.

You should try doing such methods of corrupting the registry, and configuration files. You should also try uninstalling important drivers which can cause some major issues with the Operating System.

Leave the computer on 100% volume and change the windows startup sound to a several minute long clip of hardcore porn.

Not really a technical problem. But would be hilarious to hear in a classroom.

Remove the CPU but put the heatsink back on. It will take them a long time to figure out there is no CPU. I would check 100 other things first. If the heatsink is there one would assume there is a CPU under it.

I heard someone talking about the registry so I think I'll avoid that. I like the drivers idea though.

It wouldn't be immediately obvious? I've never run a machine without a CPU before

shit in the case

can it be hardware or software?
also check 'em

remove heatsink and have them figure out why computer is on fire

I've never tried but the psu and various fans will start anyway

close

doesn't work like that
modern CPUs self throttle when they get hot to control temps and if the temp gets even higher they just shut down.

But older CPUs from the 90's would cook themselves and self destruct with no heatsink.

Downgrade adobe.

This

plug a really tiny usb memory stick in the back which has a bootable livecd and change the boot priority
also put a livecd into the optical drive, that's the second boot device
also, unplug the sata connector to the hard drive at the motherboard end - not all the way, just unclick it but leave it held in by the plastic only

and assuming the main OS is windows, in the /startup put the command
shutdown -f -r -t 17
will give them 17 seconds to figure out what's up before the machine forcibly restarts

Install Gentoo

You devious bastard.
I LOVE IT!

Hardware?
Swap power supply for lower rated one, sufficient to boot but just barely.

Or just to be annoying, tweak every fan in the system so they start sputtering and whine after a minute or two.

set up a secret bios password

What if you setup a macro to run every time the mouse or spacebar is clicked. Have the macro command Alt+F4 so it closes whatever window they have open trying to troubleshoot stuff.

>livecd/cd
Pretty easy to figure out, if not an idiot.

>loose SATA
Better.

>shutdown
Best so far.

get a virus that puts itself in startup and you have to get through regedit to fix it, but it disables regedit

Install an internal USB with a wireless mouse attached that you've left in your bag to rattle around fucking everything they try to do up. They'll check problems with the mouse. If they unplug the mouse, turn the wireless off.

Oh my god that's genius. They can't open the fucking macro program. You could leave it completely apparent and they couldn't do shit.

Also picture is retarded.
>earliest laptop-sized HDD ~20mb
>30-40lb portables (aka luggables) were monochrome CRT.
>512k RAM would be in the late 8086 era

probably b8, but this really shorts my 5v/12v bus

Install gentoo

Nice try, Rajesh

How low can a CPU be underclocked?

What if you underclocked it so it was ridiculously slow? Like 1% what it should be?

ctrl+alt+delete, arrow keys, tab, enter, alt+tab

easy work around for mouseclick and spacebar being retarded

Those keys could also be assigned to the macro

Install wannacry

this

>startup his computer
>press insert.
>Watch havoc
>???
>Profit

Computer question for you all what would cause a laptop, when tell it to go to sleep, screen goes dark like it is going to sleep for a couple seconds, then comes back on? So, Damn thing doesn't actually power down.

Did you disable or delete the paging file?

background processes

maybe the trackpad is sending false signals so it thinks you are trying to wake it up? Does the cursor hold still when you don't touch anything?

Yes cursor holds still.
It is a new laptop, done it since got it.

You got a new laptop and you didn't install a new OS?
Are you new?

Put a piece of paper behind the battery on the motherboard

Homestarrunner newfag

Install DOS on a new partition. Have the boot sequence go to that partition first, have it only run DOS. Then Change the bios language to Chinese.

Brought it with Windows 7, best version of Windows currently available.

Figured it was a meme, summerpal :(
>still triggered tho
