Why is it that in every US movie set in a high school, the kids seem to think about nothing else than social status?
Is this just a movie trope is it really so hypercharged over there that everyone is forming rigid groups, and everyone is either a bully or being bullied, a prom queen or a loser, etc.?
Aiden Ramirez
because US high schools are that way. see: columbine
Adam Scott
>why do movies reflect real life? Gee I wonder.
The only bad trope today is still having a 1950's mom being a staple. These women don't exist anymore. Everyone's a "cool mom".
Ayden Wilson
Because you always want to fuck someone higher than your social status.
It's the American way.
Gavin White
That's actually how it is for the majority of people in high school. Grades take a backseat. High school was fun for me because I actually focused on my grades and I watched everybody else from the sidelines with a few close friends. It was hilarious. I really like my high school because everyone was friendly with everyone else. Jocks got along with the kids in the anime club and the hot girls weren't snobby.
Justin Bennett
so this is REALLY is how thing are in the US? being a sex crazed teenager is one thing but does anyone even remotely out of the norm needs to get bullied relentlessly? is it really so bad?
honestly it always felt like an exaggeration, like it can't possibly be that bad
Thomas Robinson
bullying occurs in high schools all the time, but it's not as bad as movies. It's much more severe in middle schools when people are trying to find ways to identify themselves.
However, all movies exaggerate in order to produce a better story.
Jack Gomez
Relax, in few weeks you will see it yourself. Good luck in high school, kiddo!
Logan Bailey
>It's much more severe in middle schools A thousand times this. Middle school is right around the time were people are old enough to be huge assholes but not mature enough to have a filter or to be empathetic for others. Middle school was a nightmare, high school was chill.

It's a trope. Jewish boys are U G L Y. They get picked on and ostracised. Traditionally, they are bad at sports while excel in the arts, placing them in the boipussy caste. So when they grow up and control the media, they push this trope as a revenge towards their tormentors.

Bullying in schools used to be a solid method of weeding out any fucking weirdo behavior people had. If they did something strange, they got made fun of, and stopped doing that thing publicly. If they're too fucking inept to change at that young an age, they effectively dig themselves into a pit of loserdom they'll never leave while in school, and maybe, just maybe, they'll put on a different front when they hit the adult world. One person i went to school with was bullied for being a fucking creep who hung out with the kids half his age all the time and couldn't converse with others (went into a conversation with some kind of mental script planned out and would freak out and stick to it even if the conversation completely changed subjects). He was treated as an outcast until he wised up and just hung around without saying much, just listening. By high school he had plenty of normal ass friends and his strangeness was just kid shit.
Another fellow was almost the exact same, odd, bullied, even hung out with younger kids a lot too. Teachers went ape protecting him from anything because on top of his other oddities he was a fucking snitch the second he felt even slightly wronged. He became the face of the antibullying campaign at school. This continued through high school for a time, and people just started full on ignoring him for the most part since interaction with him was a risk more than anything. We all graduated, he worked at a subway for 3 years until he was fired, and last I saw him he had next to no teeth and was wandering around canadian tire's parking lot with someone a decade younger than him. He's 24 and looks like a homeless 40 year old.
But now nobody gets bullied, alternative lifestyles like being a tranny start to blossom more and more as folks find support online and are protected from criticism or negativity IRL...
The world will fall apart but at least nobody will have their feelings hurt, right?

If you think bullying is bad in the states, a lot of social structure in nip schools is based around people's grades

This. Middle school made me lose faith in humanity, but I got over it before college.
Josiah Collins
Even on this site, someone trying to paint bullies as really thoughtful individuals who only bully you to make you a better person like some kinda parent that gives tough love to make their kids stronger is pretty fucking farfetched. Bullies do it just to impress their friends and feel like they have power over people, that is it. If a kid is weird as fuck, it is up to adults and consoling or whatever to straighten the fuck up, not a bunch of kids shitting on them until they think "well, I better act like everyone else and lose all sense of identity".
Oliver Adams
i always thought it was way overblown as well. In my school there were the typical cliques of nerds, metal heads, jocks, art/theater fags, etc. but I don't recall anybody making a big deal about it or their social status. junior high on the other hand, I definitely remember girls stressing over their desire to be "popular".
Kevin James
I wasn't referring to *why* it's done, I was referring to the result. But good job getting triggered, I guess.
Bullies act like shitters for every reason under the sun, and most won't notice their prey become more normal until it's no fun to mess with them anymore. then they stop bullying or move on to the next outcast without a thought.

If someone is so inept at normal conversations that they can't have an 'unscripted' talk, then they have an actual mental disorder which won't be fixed by harassment, or in any case I can't imagine it would help.
However in these movies (and ST) fairly normal kids who are intelligent, can look other people in the eye, dress normally, etc. are being bullied, which makes no fucking sense and serves no purpose. If it really is like that in real life US schools, then that's a serious issue.
Also are you really so delusional that you think that trannies are going to make the world fall apart? I would think that school shootings caused by bullied people with untreated mental disorders are more of a danger to society. These people need to be given help to integrate, and if that's impossibe they have to be separated but bullying really doesn't solve anything.
Henry Ross
>getting your argument refuted is now the same as being triggered

>If someone is so inept at normal conversations that they can't have an 'unscripted' talk, then they have an actual mental disorder which won't be fixed by harassment, or in any case I can't imagine it would help.
He was fucking eight years old. I still sucked my goddamn thumb at that age, I just didn't do it publicly and stopped shortly after. He's a perfectly normal functioning adult now who, unless I'm mistaken, owns the store he works in.
You attacked an element of the whole problem that I never touched on. That doesn't refute anything I said.
Samuel Hernandez
do you really think that if someone is so deranged, that he/she starts microwaving shitty diapers, then that issue is going to be resolved by mental and physical abuse at a formative age?
Jose Adams

>It's user trying to justify his victimization episode

Yes
Landon Wilson
an eight year old should be able to have normal conversations, and if they don't, then they have some sort of disability. I honestly can't understand why you would think that bullying would fix him.
are you seriously implying that he was 'fixed' because he got shit upon in school?
on a side note, if you bring up an story about an 8 year old in a discussion about high school bullying, you really seem to be missing the point
Samuel Phillips

Barb doesn't care about social status. The boys obviously don't, they may have been bullied but it's not them caring so much as avoiding it. They had an actual deep interest in science and literature. They did notice when the little pretty blonde girl cried at Wills funeral but I think only to mock it. Nancy even cared about grades mostly and chose finding her friend over satisfying the popular kids. She also repeatedly denied Steve, again, showing she didn't care about social status. And hung out with the suppsedly nerdy Jonathan, another example.

no one cared about sports, the only people who went to sports games were the parents of the players, there wasn't really anything like a 'popular kid' group, literally never saw one instance of bullying either. it was just a bunch of people with their own social circles and no one really cared about anyone else.
only bad thing about my school was there was too much, ya know, low income urban diversity.
Easton White
ad hominem is in this season
Saying that people who disaggree with you are 'triggered' or 'panicked' makes you a target for ridicule.
The reason (the 'why') things are done is generally to produce a result.
Your argument is: >Bullying in schools used to be a solid method of weeding out any fucking weirdo behavior people had.
What you said is that the result of bullying is 'healthy individuals' as you would put it, and the reason bullying is done is to produce these healthy individuals. The 'reason' is to produce healthy individuals and the 'result' are healthy individuals. Here reason and result are the same fucking thing. This is something that you postulated, something that other people disgreed with. (see ; ; and )
They used bullying in your school as a 'solid method' and a method is a way to achieve a goal. What you did is state that this method is effective at 'weeding out any fucking weirdo behavior'. Thereby you said that you think that the reason (why) for bullying is to weed out these behaviors.
>all these people panicking and saying "well nothing you said matters this is a high school discussion only thread sorry lol better luck next time"
Your main argument was a anecdotal story which have nothing to do with high schools, so people are right to call you out for it.
