What went wrong?

They panicked and fired all of their talent to make up for falling TV numbers, which only made more people unsubscribe.

1. Too much focus on alienating left-wing politics.
2. Cord-cutting trends
3. Vastly overpaid for too many live sports rights

Leftist bullshit instead of sports.

>sports is mostly watched by middle class white men

REAL ANSWER:

The internet came about, allowing people to see sports highlights instantly rather than needing to wait around for a nightly Sportscenter to see them

Regional sports networks means people can watch their own teams

Team blogs means that people can read analysis about the teams they care about, not just the biggest athletes and teams that ESPN has to focus on to try to appeal to the most viewers, so they don't need to watch ESPN

Nowadays with how big social media is, hot take talking heads like Bayless and Smith create the most conversation, so they have to have debate shows, which rub a lot of people the wrong way due to abrasive personalities

MEME ANSWER

"The librul agenda about niggers kikes faggots trannies propagated by Disney"

people finally woke up and realized sports are dumb

what went right?

Cold Pizza was the beginning of the end.

They went from reporting sports news to creating """entertainment""". Basically what would happen if CNN launched a sports network.

Nah the real real answer is they just show so much shit and overcharge for their shit. People are willing to pay if it's good value.

I've posted before about how we get a better and cheaper version of ESPN. They just show sport and barely any talk shows. It's good value.

>watching ESPN with my dad
>he asks why there are so many Indians now

Theres just no depth. No substance. No X's and O's stuff. It feels like I'm watching TMZ with sports.

>What went wrong?

Didn't listen to Sup Forums

There are many reasons. Some of them:

>Cord cutting
ESPN and ESPN 2 account for nearly $6 per month of your cable bill. Hundreds of thousands are cutting the cord every year, and this cuts into ESPN's revenue.

>Contracts
ESPN pays a premium for broadcast rights. When you have less revenue coming in, it's harder to pay the bills.

>Layoffs
Less money means fewer employees. Over the past three years, ESPN has laid off hundreds of employees. Layoffs affect morale, which ultimately affects the quality of the product.

>Competition
Not only are there several more dedicated sports networks on cable, but people also consume sports and news on the internet, particularly on social media.

>Talent
ESPN suffers in the personality department. Who is really very interesting or compelling?
