The dying of practical effects

The dying of practical effects.

Jurassic World was garbage. I think I unironically prefer JP3, and I don't say that lightly.

I wonder what is more expensive. Practical effects or CGI? All that matters is cutting costs and generating profits nowadays.

Practical Effects is the main topic.

It depends on what specifically you want. In some cases the CGI is more expensive, but suits will choose to go for it because they think audiences hate practical and only like CG.

The Thing remake was done entirely with practical effects that were then later replaced with CG because of test audiences.

Practicals and building sets is far, far cheaper. In the last few years CGI has become a complete fucking meme. CG blood was the straw that broke the camel's back for me, just because if how utterly lazy it is.

My melanin enriched sibling.

I couldn't agree more with this post.

Jurassic Park 3 is a 7/10 for me

Jurassic World a 3/10

The raptors were also practical models when they were in the restraints. The way their mouths moved was great.

Practical effects and sets are generally cheaper, unless the scale of what you want is fucking crazy.

CG is generally fucking expensive, but "audiences" prefer it according to test screenings and focus tests.

Independence Day resurgence made me furious. How the fuck do you go from this

to this??? it's the star wars prequels all over again. how do directors not see this?

They were replaced with CGI in post.

literally seeing practical effects die on screen.

That looked absolutely fine on screen.

What I hated was the fucking CGI fire sky and CGI buildings crashing to the ground.

That looked horrible compared to the 90's city destruction

>not watching the original cut

pleb

uhm uh ah uh
YES

Seriously that movie was shit, the queen was unoriginal as fuck and the robot was just an excuse to get out of creating an original alien design.

I don't see why people are so pissy about it when Jurassic Park had CG in it's most notable scenes.

It also makes sense currently when kneejerk reactions mean you have to go back and change shit on the fly which would be incredibly difficult without CG.

>I don't see why people are so pissy about it when Jurassic Park had CG in it's most notable scenes.

people aren't pissy about SOME CG. Jurassic Park and ID4 are prime examples of CGI done right, when it is used in combination with practical effects blending them together seamlessly. people are pissy about makine everything CGI, which just ends up looking like a videogame. it's the same reason the viewer feels so disconnected from the action in episode 2 while the Star Wars OT action looks much better after decades: simply because your brain can tell that the starships on screen are actual physical objects with dirt and dents.

The best looking part of the movie, actually looked amazing. A lot of other shots were blatant CGI, I can count on my hands the CGI shots that looked good.
I had fun with the T. rex and Blue t b h. I can see it sucking if you don't just side with the dinosaurs and pay attention to the human characters.

How is Stan Winston Studios still afloat?

There is no need for practical effects anymore.
