This is it. After 15 days and 70 matches, we have reached the summit: the 2017 PDC Worlds Darts Championship final. It's the one we all expected and wanted as number 1 seed and 2014 champion Michael van Gerwen faces off against number 2 seed and two-time back-to-back reigning champion Gary Anderson (in World Championship form nonetheless). This could be the highest quality final there's been.
The two couldn't have had different semi-finals: van Gerwen set a new World Championship record with a bewildering 114.05 average (stick that on your caravan, Phil) and a 51% checkout rate as he outclassed Raymond van Barneveld who himself set a new losing average of 109.34 despite checking out at 68%; although Barney kept MVG in place for the first four sets, he inevitably tired out and the Autism Express brutalised him. Anderson made far too much work out of what should have been as easy a victory over Peter Wright by repeatedly letting 2-0 leads slip in sets; twice in the match he could have gone 4-1 and 4-2 ahead from these positions but somehow managed to draw at 3-3 before a a 157 checkout to win set 7 killed the Clown.
Don't forget that the Premier League's competitors will be announced after the final, and that if everything goes as expected, the equally atrocious Robert Thornton and Michael Smith will be replaced by the debuting Mensur Suljovic and the returning Jelle Klaasen.
