>season 10 is now considered classic

when they start unironically having monsters outside of the Halloween eps you know something is wrong

I'm tired of people mislabeling the "eras" of The Simpsons

Ullman shorts-Sn1: Formative years. Very rough.

Sn 2-3: Writing and characters more refined. Never forgets that it's about the family first. The show was at its smartest these years.

Sn 4-6: Show tries new things with every episode to great effect. Becomes a cultural phenomenon here. Still amazing but the family start to become secondary in some episodes.

Sn 7-8: The tipping point. Stories become a bit zanier and there is a heavier reliance on side characters/guest stars. Still highly enjoyable.

Sn 9-12: The very end of the "watchable" period. The animation is at its best here but the writing is starting to take a turn. The show gets too big to fail.

Sn 13-movie: Mediocre to outright offensive.

Sn 17-present: Absolute dogshit.

Having spoken with several thousand people and reading Simpsons and animation boards over the past decade, most of the people I've seen say "the first 10 seasons / years were the best".

However, they probably only chose 10 as the cap-off point it because it's a nice, round numbered way to say the show had ten outstanding seasons under its belt before it went to hell. Other than that, s10 is stylistically closer to 11+ than 9 and below.

Its strange, since I didnt think the movie was all that bad. But the show was dogshit during that time

agreed except 9 is shit too

No, season 9 is wonderful

Swap 13-movie and 17-present. There still manages to be some decent eps out now. But 13-movie had some of the worst fucking episodes of the series. The only absolutely abhorrent thing about recent Simpsons is the move to digital, but that was Groening's choice.

9 & 10 are comfye and have some top drawer Swartzwelder. 10 is the end of classic era.

You're a fucking dumb ass, that's one of the best.

"Model?"
"Freemasons control the country!"
"A city on the...GROW!"

you're wrong

Actually it should be divided like this.

sn 13-18: Mediocre to outright offensive.
Movie: Surprisingly ok in spots
Sn 19-present: Absolute dogshit.

The movie came out between sn 18 and 19

This. The official end of the Simpsons is behind the laughter

''classic'' Simpsons died with Phil Hartman

The show was a phenomenon from episode 1. Bartman came out in season 2, and that is clearly the point it hit the stratosphere

I'd say 10 is the last decent season, and even then nearly a third of the episodes aren't good

You're thinking of the season 5 episode with Burns' casino. It's the one where Marge develops a gambling addiction

This is the season 10 one, where Burns tries to capture the Loch ness monster. It's a lot dumber

I like the episode where it shows the same day from homer, Lisa and Barts perspectives.
What season was that

whats the best episode of the simpsons?

S12: Trilogy of Error.

Season 12 had some really strong episodes. I still revisit them.

Season 9 is top drawer

Season 10 is mostly not

That means the first four episodes of s10 are classic, but the rest aren't

There were Troy McClure appearances recorded and animated for Treehouse of Horror IX and Screaming yellow honkers, but they were cut out and have not been released to the public. I'd really like to see them.

I recently watched the episode MR. Lisa goes to washington and it was the worst fucking thing I've ever seen. Lisa writes a essay, goes to washington, sees a guy take a bribe, cries, then they arrest him. Not one joke the whole episode.

People WAY WAY over praise this show it has some good episode but that one was so fucking bad it brought down the whole show for me, I would rather watch any family guy episode over that. Also the episode is in season 3

>show has a good 200 episodes in it's heyday
>see one of the less good ones
>wtf i hate the simpsons now

>hating Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington
It's one of the finest episodes in terms of gut-busting laughs you retard.
>Nelson's "BURN THE FLAG IF YOU MUST" speech
>Homer's obsession with Reading Digest
>The lonely Thomas Jefferson Memorial

No its people say that the show has 18 terrible seasons and the first 8-10 are only ones worth watching. So I start watching the episodes from the start and found one that was terrible in the early seasons. I didn't say I hated the show just that it is the most nostalgic and over praised show ever made

>30 minute episode, maybe 3 laughs through the whole thing.

Again, based on one episode? I don't think anyone would deny it has some weak ones in the first three seasons and sporadically throughout the next 3-5

>only mentioned three
>HUUUUURRRRR THOSE MUST BE THE ONLY ONES DURRRRRRRRR
We done here?

how did this become copypasta? who are you? why do you keep posting this shit? on Sup Forums no one considers 10 classic. 9 maybe. 8 is usually the cut off.

So then when is the show actually good? I dont get it people rip good movies and tv shows all the time on here but somehow the simpsons gets a pass. It has 28 seasons and 18 of them are terrible, and the first couple of seasons aren't that great either. What is so special about this show that its the only thing people go out of their way to defend it?

I honestly think that so far the first 3 seasons of the simpsons is maybe as good as family guy, but people rip the shit out of family guy. I just don't get it.

Again having said that I really do like the show but I am just confused as to why people on here love it as much as they do other than nostalgic

Sorry man it wasn't that good of an episode you don't need to get all worked up that I didn't like it. There were around only 3 laughs in the episode for me.

NOPE

THIS IS CONFIRMED FOR WORST CLASSIC EPISODE

Which exact episode is when the Simpsons went downhill?

Go on wikipedia and find out when most of the original writers left. I would guess its somewhere around there

Wrong

S3-S7 are the classic period

I really miss most of the early side characters they felt like they had more soul and more varied design.

Pic very much related

>MR. Lisa goes to washington and it was the worst fucking thing I've ever seen... Not one joke the whole episode.

?!?!?!/!11??!//?

this is who you share this board with
13yo plebs
shit i remember watching this episode when i was 8 and liking it.

>S09E02 The Principal and the Pauper
Is the worst and was the telltale sign that the show is beginning to run its course.

I say S10 is still classic, so I'd go with Saddlesore Galactica as the episode that signalled there was no way back.

>Homer getting raped by a Panda

The Simpsons was legitimately the best thing on TV and now it's it the absolute worst. Has there ever been a worse fall from grace?

Bullshit.

Worst would be the love clip show.

People rip the plot of that episode but it has a lot of top tier jokes in it.

Who killed Mr.Burns?

Or one of the earlier Treehouse of Horrors

Season 9 was the most disturbing and morbid season of them all. There were no happy endings whatsoever. I don't know who wrote those episodes but he was not qualified to be the main writer. He wrote those episodes without any of the family dynamics and love aspect. Most episodes started Homer being ruthless and selfish to everyone and never getting his comeuppance. It's downright disgusting. It's like someone who despised the show wrote it and made sure the audience would be sickened by it.

>Trash of The Titans
>Trouble with the Trillions
>The Cartridge Family
>Simpson Tide
>Girly Edition

That episode isn't that bad. Come on.

Skinners saying "up yours, children" is pretty funny. Skinner still obeys his mom after becoming the real him.

Stupid, yes. Not stupid as Trouble with the Trillions.

Not him but it's a great episode fuck you

This has got to be bait surely?

sauce on your pic please user?

>Golden era

2-8

>Silver era

1,9-10

>Transitional era

11-12

>Shit era

13-onwards

Ah cmon season one is gold. Its not AS laugh out loud funny but after reading a lot of life is hell I appreciate it better. Also its the most pure satire in the whole series

Vote for what you consider to be the last classic Simpsons episode

strawpoll.me/11039422

Sorry life in hell*

Good list

>Also its the most pure satire in the whole series

It's probably the most sophisticated in some ways, like it was written for a more adult audience.

Yes

Even as a stupid kid these were jarring as fuck to me. No class, hack writing.

Season 10? get to be fucked

Me too.

I remember watching the episode where smithers father dies and homer finds the body in the quarry.
That was season twelve and when I went back to watch it I found the whole thing disturbing and humorless
It was filled with feels though, I guess

Season 10 is classic in my opinion, though just barely

One of the best neo-Simpson episodes, in my opinion.

Oy, the love clip show. Truly nothing redeeming there. You have an eye for garbage.

This Milhouse episode was so stupid.

this is the only good lisa episode other than the hockey one with her and bart

The clip shows in general suck.

The only good ones are So It's Come to This and the 138th Episode spectacular.

Seasons 10, 11, 12 get shit on a lot (a maybe rightfully so), but I think they have a charm about them. You know they were distinct from Classic Simpsons and were a huge step down, but there are still some good episodes within them (although there are definitely duds).

I recommend just reading the episode summaries on wikipedia of those seasons, then move on to the next few seasons. You can actually see the quality absolutely plummet, I didn't realize it was so sudden.

>Bart and Lisa - who are normally really lame - are rewritten as hip and with it kids that know everything about current music (Lisa would probably throw up one of her bitchfits about how superior jazz is. Speaking of which, during the episode, they may as well be the same character because Bart and Lisa don't even disagree about anything. Oh, and why does Bart care that Homer is wearing a Rastafarian hat?)
>Over-reliance on celebrity worship and gags with the only decent one being the Cypress Hill orchestra joke. (Also, The Smashing Pumpkins make for a really bland guest spot)
>It's another "wacky and retarded job" for Homer episode

>Season 12

I will always love you, I will always be true

Spend my days pitching woo, to you.

that episode is a classic.

11 and 12 are a dive in quality from 10

If Scully only did 9-10, then someone else took over for 11-12, he probably wouldn't be as hated.

This is the canonical end. Everything after is just fanfiction
