Why does jazz sound like shit?

youtube.com/watch?v=T2BKyt5kIBU

he wasn't merciless if you knew your shit

Why can't ur mum take a hit? Haha sry I couldn't resist
merely a play on Ming the Merciless I assure you

Is there any slow and/or melancholic jazz that is actually good? Idle Moments hits that spot for me but a lot of bebop is very upbeat.

I just noticed that the Sup Forumscore MEGA doesn't include much if any jazz.

Shouldn't there be a folder included for it alone? What would be in that folder anyways? There's got to be at least a good 10 or so solid albums to represent the genre
>Bop
>Cuban
>Big band
>Fusion
>Free

etc etc. Wish I had a good source for Bitches Brew.

Listening to this right now that I saw in another thread, its rly nice. Might be what you're looking for.

The track Love Letters has quite the lovely guitar passage on it.

Oh ya and previous thread:

hang on wrong pic

bought a new Ikea Kallax to house my overflowing vinyl collection - listening to cool albums that I haven't listened in a while that I come across while moving albums to their new home.

Now listening to pic related - it's an interesting group with seven horns and a drummer, pretty traditional stuff if you know Lester Bowie from The Art Ensemble of Chigago

...

Uh, what is this?

>filename

I have this one - it's not a good entry-level jazz album though :D

father's day jazz

Nice album for a Sunday afternoon

The /jazz/ general should have a pasta with MEGA links to recommended albums and links to the good review sites and stuff.

There are good jazz review sites?

Yeah, allaboutjazz has ok reviews and freejazzblog.org is good for free jazz. allmusic.com usually has pretty reliable reviews and ratings of classic jazz albums.

been checking out more orrin evans and listening to this right now that somebody reccd in the last thread. it's pretty great

What the fuck do you think of this?

youtube.com/watch?v=AEh5xCw255I

bump

What the fuck is this album art?

South African jazz is good. Listen to it. Also rec'ing the flowchart starting with Kind of Blue on the middle.

youtube.com/watch?v=gKPvh-7zF-Q

Can somebody post that blue note flowchart?

Still requestiog the one starting with Kind of Blue mates.

...

look into Doom Jazz
Bohren & Der Club of Gore and Mt. Fuji Doomjazz Co are both great

Been really diggin' this. I kind of slpet on it right after I got it cause I was really feeling Red Clay by Freddie. But damn. This album gets in to some fun grooves, while just being the perfect amount of out there.

listening to this rn. Real great. II BS and I X Love are fire. So moody.

Also this. Love Grant's playing and the focus on the guitar. Some of his solos are pretty goofy, but still fun. The gospel tunes are real fun. Herbie is nice as well.

this is really, really good

I just heard Orrin Evans on this album. It wasn't the best thing I've ever heard but I'd recommend it if you're into post bop type of stuff.

how come no ones mentioned that ass though

sup jazzers what time signature is this in?
youtube.com/watch?v=krwaSmKbkJQ

glad you like it. It's one of my favorites.

This album was pretty good. Evans' playing definitely raised the level of the whole album.

I hear it in 7. There's just a lot of 16th note syncopation. It's pretty cool btw.

>tfw no Mingus biopic starring Bunk from The Wire

Who would you cast in a biopic about your favorite jazz musician?

"experimental bebop"

Paul Motians Electric Be Bop Band

One of the best albums of all time right here, Wes montgomerys whole family is as good as he is lol

Any first rate electronic jazz album?

Preferably recent.

Listen to any Yesterday's New Quintet?

New to me, thanks for the rec.

youtube.com/watch?v=AVT1reSxRZU

This whole album is pretty solid

Unavailable =/

okay. I think this is in the archives somewhere.

Thanks, user.

How does Out To Lunch size up to Dialogue by Hutcherson.

the detective from The Night Of/fanatic from Midnight Special as Steve Lacy

Mike from Breaking Bad as Lol Coxhill

Zach Galifinakiss as Evan Parker

and that takes care of the big sopranos; too tired to think of Doneda, Wright, and Rainey

Does anyone know of any good Jazz documentaries out there? I'm really interested in finding one that covers the history and evolution of Jazz music as a whole. Though also interested in good docs about certain eras or Jazz musicians.

Sadly the Ken Burns documentary is the closest thing to a comprehensive documentary. Its coverage of the very early roots of jazz is great, but there start to be some glaring omissions in everything it covers after Louis Armstrong.

Nobody cares about your lazy, copypasta b8

why the fuck is nobody any fun in this shithole?

that thread looked clinically un-fun dude

...

at least there's no Adorno in that thread (yet)
